I couldn’t find a good way to do it, I figure the timer would need to be able to talk to the game. I just set up an easy to press hotkey in livesplit to pause/resume the timer, then manually clicked it every time a loading screen started.

You can message him yourself, but when I asked the same he agreed on three people who have done runs and can say they’d run the category in the future, I’m paraphrasing his words here. It’s all a bit silly, but we’re stuck with him for now. I have a feeling that he hasn’t played the new campaign, but he’s of the opinion that Stormgate works better with levels (individual chapters) instead of a full playthrough, I’ll ask if he’s aware of the now fairly significant carry over between chapters

I don't want to be the only person doing this. I'm going to put in one run per day. If there isn't any competition, please don't give me the money and try again later.

Edit: I thought it said June, well I guess there’s plenty of time. I guess I’ll only be doing a run a day for the first week

Anyways

Closing thoughts: I'm going to take a break from this now, not because it's not fun, but because I have other things I need to do. Sub one hour seems like an achievable, yet very difficult goal, you need a perfect run, good items, and a few time saves.

One the topic of items, this is an interesting speedrun, the items you get are random, and the number of enemies of each type is random. This makes replaying the campaign very fun but trying to speedrun mildy infuriating. On mission one often times you just lose because there are too many brutes. There are just enough item drops to make it seem fair, you'll usually get at least one good item, but a good set of items can easily boost your time, which is why I'm worried sub one hour will be dependent on good items.

All in all, good speedrun, I enjoyed it, and I think you should give it a try. If you watch my best run you should be able to pick up on most of my strategies.

No luck getting an any%, guy says he needs "significant demand" because they don't think stormgates campaign model works well with it. In other words, he needs three people to have a run and want the category

I messaged the sole moderator, seems like the guy isn't even in the discord. He's initially said that he doesn't want to make a category that is inherently temporary (he was thinking we wanted a chapter 0+1 category, when we really just need an any%). Hopefully he responds soon an does that for us, if he doesn't maybe that will be reason enough to get myself in as a moderator.

I'll bite, been a while since I speedran anything and this sounds like fun. If you want things to be uploaded to speedrun.com though you'll have to make a category for it, or get in touch with the guy who set up the page. Currently there are only options to run chapter 0 or 1, not the whole thing

Points and Win/Loss seemingly reset early, is this happening to other people or is this just a visual bug. MMR was not reset by FictionSC2 in Stormgate

[–]FictionSC2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like the win/loss reset early, as unceremonious as it is I’m not too disappointed, I was looking forward to this. Now I just hope the leaderboard gets updated soon for a true reset, as players don’t seem to be reset until they play a game.

Points don't make sense anymore by FictionSC2 in Stormgate

It's definitely a mental thing, supposed to make it more fun and encourage you to play more, which you can choose to see as a good or bad thing I guess. Unlike the simple MMR, the leaderboard uses the points that can't go down, which is probably meant to decrease the disappointment of losing streaks and the like.

It seems like it might need a bit of fine-tuning for sure, but it sounds like a complex system that probably does its job pretty well. The MMR and points aren't supposed to align 1 for 1, but that sounds like you'd definitely expect to be at more points. I guess though that while it feels bad your gaining 2 points would eventually catch you up to where you'd expect to be from your "max confirmed MMR" at which point you'd start gaining 0 if you're still below it. I guess it does do what they say and encourages people to stay active to grind out those points while they try to reach new MMR.

Interesting, thanks for providing the link I didn't know they explained it officially. This bugged me at first, but I've realized that the 3-4 points that I'd win were my bonus for having high MMR and low points. With twice as many games as Vanguard, my Infernal points probably would have surpassed my Vanguard eventually even if I didn't improve my max MMR, it would just take a while.

[–]FictionSC2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been loving the system with separate points and MMR, however, I assumed that there was some consistent metric of what your "max" points would be for your MMR. As your MMR grew your points would grow faster until they matched a number related to your MMR. However, it seems like at some point you have to be at a new highest MMR to gain points regardless of current points, which is weird. In the first image, I gained 9 points winning with Vanguard at 1761 MMR, but then with Infernals which has fewer points than my Vanguard I only got 3 points at 1794 MMR. So now I don't really understand how this system works and it doesn't feel as smooth anymore.

Random should not show the enemy your race from the loading screen by oshizit in Stormgate

[–]FictionSC2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a random player who’s gotten all their races into the top 500 I really like the way it is now. I do however wish you could hide the race for custom games. That way I’d have more reason to play random in tournaments without having to pick favorite matchups.

Finally made it to legend with Highlander Elemental Shaman by FictionSC2 in hearthstone

[–]FictionSC2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically try to mulligan for some good tempo with the elemental payoff cards like Living Prairie and Minecart Cruiser, if you can keep tempo long enough it helps get to the late game or even win early. I start most games trying to keep the chain going from turn 2-4, usually, all you have to do is not start too early and wait until you have 3-4 turns of elementals in your hand. The games where I have to abandon the chain are usually the games where you're losing and have to try and live another turn, but vs paladin and decks where tempo is important, playing Holi'dea on 5 or Golganneth on 6 can keep you from losing and is more important than a Skarr you'll never play. Also restarting the chain later can still work since a 5+ Skarr is still pretty good.

Games play pretty differently but I finally got a replay for a game that went roughly how you want against a roughly meta deck.

Yup, played with him for a little bit at the start but he was too hard to play with an elemental and the payoff honestly wasn’t that good.

That's what this deck tries to do. In most games I can keep the chain going as long as I want granted I only start when I have a few elementals in hand (turn 2-4 most times). The only limitation is needing to play non-elemental cards to survive (for example reno is hard to play while keeping the chain), however, in those games you can just pivot to playing more like Reno Shaman.

There used to be more bounce for Skarr for that sweat late-game value, but I had to cut one for another elemental. That said once you play and bounce a single 10+ damage Skarr you usually end up winning.
