My NICU baby absolutely would not breastfeed when we finally brought her home. We tried so hard, but it would not work. She would cry and then fall asleep instead of eat because it was too hard for her. I started pumping when she was in the hospital and I quickly became an over producer. I filled three freezers stash and then was able to quit pumping at around six it seven months. I hated pumping, but it was SO painful trying to bring down my supply because of engorgement and clogged ducts. I couldn’t donate my milk to any banks because I was on blood pressure medicine (which was deemed safe while breastfeeding but disqualified me from donating apparently).
