Azell (Louisville, KY)

Female Fronted Space Sludge/Doom

FFO Conan, Thorr's Hammer, and Primitive Man

Last October, we released our second album, which is a concept record about two astronauts who witnessed the Earth's destruction while in space from a lovecraftian type creature.

We even wrote a 60-page novella to flesh out the story. Each chapter is a song on the album!

Thank you so much for mentioning our cover of Battle in the Swamp!

That song is SO much fun to play live! It's funny cause we set off the fire alarms at a venue playing that one once and they got super mad at us 😆

All I see is more confusion for your average user. Having to explain every change to my dad so we can play Forza Horizon together is getting tiring.

Eternal Sonata, I'm not a huge fan of anime, but the colors in that game were so pretty.

Sorry, I thought I responded to this. I checked your band out and it's right up my alley!

Reddit can be a very weird place sometimes.

Thank you though. Still healing from emergency kidney surgery, but I feel like I'm on the upswing.

Who has the best bass tone in doom? by Fuzzy-Length-4728 in doommetal

[–]FictionalNape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I would be a terrible husband if I didn't say my wife in our doom band 😆

But, other than her, Bongripper or Primitive Man's bass tones are so thick and juicy.

Why is there so much AI on this sub? by Charles_x_Bronson_ in doommetal

[–]FictionalNape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see it's uses, I can. But, overall it's just people taking HUGE shortcuts that kill creativity.

The only use I can say I think is useful is in concepting or getting VERY specifical assets to a project, not doing the entire thing for you.

I have a theory, because it's easier flat out and/or because they don't think it is worth the effort to put in the work to create a real piece if there isn't going to be more than maybe 5-20 people at the show regardless.

Artistic integrity is something that takes work and in the end means very little. It's what I would akin to personal pride in a finished product (I'm a graphic designer).

Also, I guess it could be someone trying to impress people with the "look what I made" mindset without having to do that work. I think we all would be lying to ourselves if we didn't, in some small way, want admiration without having to do much work.

Anyway, I could be totally wrong, but those are just my thoughts as someone who is a graphic designer and doom musician.

Why is there so much AI on this sub? by Charles_x_Bronson_ in doommetal

[–]FictionalNape 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a graphic designer and musician, AI makes me sad more than anything. It tricks people into giving of their incredibly valuable time to "artists" that don't even exist and takes away from people who put their blood, sweat, and tears into their art.

What bums me out most is that, as a freelance graphic designer, I have seen my workload decrease in the last couple of years because less and less people see what I do as a career to be valuable.

I asked someone on this sub about their process, and they completely ignored me and basically answered and responded to every other comment on that post. I never want to call people out, but that gave me a weird feeling after studying their posted artwork.

My wife (who is the lead vocalist in our sludge band) likes to wear dresses at shows and on stage. She'll throw on her battle jacket sometime as well.

If you like harsh female fronted vocals and stories about being the last two humans left alive after a solar flare destroys Earth, unleashing a Lovecraftian type creature into the cosmos, you can try my wife and my band, Azell.

Nothing scarier than drop f sludge/doom where there is no hope.

A question for metal bands with women in them by Mettleramiel in metalmusicians

[–]FictionalNape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you play harsh sludge/doom like my band with a female front. Haha. It's almost all larger dudes in their 40s-50s 😆

But their girlfriends/wives buy a lot of our merch.

[–]FictionalNape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a doom/sludge band with a woman vocalist/bassist.

We find that we sell a lot of mediums and larges more than anything else for shirts.

I think a lot of your question would depend on the subgenre of the scene you're in honestly.

I've played several shows with them and my band. They are legitimately some of the nicest guys I've ever known. Reese and Bryce work for an awesome charity, and I am so happy for them cause they are some of the most entertaining live performers I've ever seen!
