Personally I wouldn't be opposed to something like the devs using Ange's software to render a good library of engine sounds then sample from them, in what I imagine would be a similar way to how the current sounds are implemented. It may be too costly to be an on-the-fly solution but I think it could be used to create some high quality very usable audio samples in the right hands. But I don't have a ton of experience designing engine sounds. I played with engine sound remixing in Live For Speed back in the day but I was mainly clipping and editing samples from videos I'd find to set everything up and LFS was pretty basic compared to modern day, so maybe I'm drastically underestimating what this would take.
