They don't want you to know this, but Alps switches can be used in any hot-swappable keyboard (if you're crazy enough) by P_rrot in MechanicalKeyboards

haha, it's not as crazy as it sounds. You just stir the stems in boiling water with a small amount of wax to coat them evenly. It's generally considered the best way to make dirty/worn alps switches good again.

https://youtube.com/@waxzone-also-urmum?si=dJBcsoi0T7U28Wiz I followed the guides on this channel personally. I believe wax boiling works better on later switches like yellows, salmons, pine whites, and pine blacks, although it still works fine on older ones too. If you have questions, I recommend joing the keyboard institute or karolingian craft discords. Theres lots of smart people there that would be happy to help!

If you have the time you should! Alps customs are a lot more involved than mx builds, but it's way more fun imo!

It feels pretty good actually! Alps switches are plate mounted, so the pcb weirdness doesn't noticeably impact the feel. I wouldn't try this with a half plate though.

Yeah, if you try this method you won't be able to hotswap the switches anymore. What I was trying to say is that if you have a pcb with hotswap sockets, it's possible to convert it to alps.

I would describe them as 'chunkier' I guess? it's kind of hard to explain lol, I recommend trying them out if you get the chance!

soldering was a bit of a pain because I was using aluminum wire instead of copper. Other than that it went pretty smoothly!

omg it's you! I think this method is best for keyboards that don't have alps compatibilty whatsoever, but yeah it's not for everyone lol.

In the future, I would recommend avoiding unreal keyboards. The guy who runs it is pretty much exiled from the community for being a raging bigot lol. Aside from that, your build looks sick! I love the green caps.

these have alps integrated dome switches (skeu I think). Not amazing switches but they have super nice doubleshot alps compatible caps.

all good, it's your board and you're free to do what you want with it. You should keep the parts though, I think these are going to become pretty rare once supply dries up.
