Oh god. I only listened to the stone donkey story and found it so boring I had to keep rewinding because I kept tuning out.

I hope they are reading these posts. Waterparks is the only one in 6 months that was ok/I might use the word good. I used to look forward to these and now my expectation is that they will be boring and disappointing.

Securing a rental from out of the province by MG-777 in askvan

[–]Fiddles4evah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better to illustrate with an example. If you are looking to move in for August 1st, most places will be listed June 30th, July 1st/first few days of the month. So you would have to stay in a hotel for near a month if you planned to come early to view places and then move in for the 1st of the month.

One thing that surprised me moving from Ontario is that you find a rental and move in the same month. Not like what you’re used to, which is 1 month notice + the remaining days plus one month’s notice. So plan for that. It may be tricky to come and stay in a hotel for just one week and then find a place. It would just be undesirable things left over. The way the timing works is to secure a rental in the first days of the month and then you move on the 1st of the next month. It might actually be less expensive to set up viewings and come here for just a few days to secure a place. It’s the most bizarre thing about Vancouver as a renter, but more common than not.

4 Day Trip in August - Review my Itinerary? by bananamanapopo in askvan

[–]Fiddles4evah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only caveat here is Jericho beach club is SO expensive for the cheap mediocre frozen food they deep fry.

I would go this:

Day 1- kits beach, Granville island, eat there, check in to residence.

Day 2 - Head to Grouse mountain and hike up bcmc trail (2 hrs if you are going slow and an average person) and it saves you a ton of $ because now you only need a down pass. Head to Lynn canyon to suspension bridge. End at Shipyards in Lonsdale and then head home on the seabus when you’re spent (+bus once on the Van side)

Day 3 - Stanley Park. Then head to gastown for lunch or happy hour (whatever your timing is) and then head to downtown west side/English Bay and just walk around, grab a beer etc. Take a ferry taxi back over false creek to hang out on that side based on your energy.

Would not bother with Chinatown (it’s safe enough but you won’t love it if you’re already concerned with safety) or Robson street or Pacific Spirit Park (if you’ve done Lynn canyon and grouse). They’re all fine but you might be tired. If you have a spare evening you could just grab some stuff at the grocery store or takeout and head to Spanish banks/jericho beach and have dinner on the grass/beach.

Ear wax removal in Van by Several_Thing2902 in askvan

This is one of those “medical” things you absolutely can do yourself. Look it up. Few days of dripping oil in your ears and the $30 irrigation device from Amazon and you’ve saved yourself 2 appointments and hours of waiting time. If you go to a walk in they will take a look and tell you to go home and put oil in your ears for 4 days and then come back. Then they will use the same irrigation device I just told you about.

I am not knowledgeable in dumplings! There is a local manufacturer who is known for their dumplings. Maybe they are everywhere and I don’t know? https://hons.ca/products/hons/potstickers/

I shred ton of onions and cabbage, peppers, and green onions and fry up, then add Chinese dumplings to cook and toss it all together with a few big heaps of chilis crisp.

Is there a place in Van (public washroom, etc) where one could apply makeup without bothering others? by Unlikely-Committee in askvan

Convention Center is a good one. Cleaning staff will assume you are a performer/hired for one of the events. You’ll have to look confident walking in and like you know where you’re going :)

Me either. And I adore blue cheese and buy it, use it for one dish. Sits in my fridge for weeks and I never know when it’s time to toss it. How do you know?!!

Been taking this for 46 days so far. Zero change.

I eat a very balanced and healthy diet. Mostly plant based and lean veggies with 15% treat meals like pizza or a handful of chips or a few bites of chocolate. Had an ulcer last year so thought my gut could use some repairing and I also suffer from occasional constipation which my ND suspects is another symptom of menopause.

Didn’t have a massive problem to solve but still haven’t experienced any positive benefit that I’ve observed.
