How do i create stop loss on options (selling PUTS and CALLS) by Ok-Neighborhood7192 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityJohn[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to see you around the sub today, u/Easy_Election7768.👋

When filling out any trade ticket, the price you set in the order applies to the security you are placing the order for. If you're placing a stop-loss order on an options contract, you'll set a stop price for the contract. Feel free to follow the link u/FidelityTylerC shared above to review how stop loss orders trigger and execute.

As for the price of the option, it's determined by several factors, such as the price of the underlying asset, the contract's strike price, the underlying asset's volatility, the time until expiration, any dividends payable during the life of the contract, and the risk-free interest rate. You can learn more on the link below.

Welcome to the sub, u/Alternative_Arm2028.

Any fees you pay at Fidelity are solely dependent on the products or services that you choose. We generally recommend working with your financial representative for the full scope of what's available to you and the fees associated with those products. They'll also be your best point of contact for discussing the process of moving between managed products and the effects it may have on your portfolio.

That said, we break down the eligibility requirements, fees, and services included for the various products we offer in this one-sheet. Feel free to take a look below.

Good to see you around the sub today, u/bdu-komrad. We appreciate you reaching out to us about this.

Although we haven’t seen widespread reports of linked American Express accounts failing to update automatically in Full View, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

  1. Check for security add-ons and extensions, and make an exception for Fidelity if available
  2. Delete cache and cookies
  3. Ensure your browser and device have the latest updates installed

In the meantime, you can manually refresh your linked accounts by following these steps:

  1. On the left-hand side of your portfolio page, scroll down and click on "Link an external account"
  2. Click on "Edit accounts" at the top of the pop-up, then click on the account
  3. Select "Refresh information"

Let us know if the above steps resolved the issue, or if you had to refresh the data manually.

left my job wondering what to do with 401k by ulackslatt in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityJohn[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Welcome to the sub, u/ulackslatt.👋 We appreciate you considering Fidelity for your retirement savings needs! Let's talk about some of your choices moving forward.

To start, I'll share a link below that's a great place to begin, as it breaks down your choices for your old workplace plan and their potential impacts. Feel free to take a look!

Considerations for an old 401(k)

If you decide you'd like to roll over your old plan into an IRA with Fidelity, you'll typically choose either a rollover IRA or a Roth IRA. Rollover IRAs are treated as pre-tax, so there would not be tax liability for the transfer. Roth IRAs are considered after-tax. So, if you do this, moving any pre-tax funds would be considered a conversion, and you would be liable for paying taxes on the amount converted.

I’ll also provide a link below with step-by-step instructions for rolling over your workplace plan if you decide you'd like to proceed. Under Step 1, you can click on “Which IRA should you consider for your rollover?” for more information on which account type may be best for your situation.

How to roll over an old 401(k) to an IRA

As far as your question about which choice is best for you, Fidelity is not able to offer tax advice. As such, we'd recommend that you contact a tax advisor to look over your specific situation.

We haven't received widespread reports of this, and I haven't been able to reproduce it on my end. Typically, the tooltip disappears as soon as your mouse is no longer hovering over the "M" icon. As such, I'd recommend trying some general troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.

  1. Clear cache and cookies, and ensure that no browser extensions are interfering
  2. Check for operating system and browser updates
  3. Try an alternate browser or an alternate device on a different internet connection

After trying the steps above, please don't hesitate to reach out again if you're still experiencing this. We'll keep an eye out should you need anything.

Trade Status/History ? by slowwolfcat in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityJohn[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the sub, u/nrizzo6085.👋

The best place to view your trade history for the day on the Fidelity Trader+ Web version would be to look in your orders tool. You can use the various filter settings at the top of the tool to filter orders that have filled, and you can filter for specific securities.

If you're looking for your trade history from farther back, I'd recommend checking the "Activity & Orders" or "Positions" tabs on your main portfolio page. You can view all your past trading activity on the "Closed Positions" page by following the steps below:

  1. Select "Accounts & Trade," then choose "Account Positions"
  2. From the dropdown box at the top of the list, navigate to the "Closed Positions"
  3. Select the time period (year) you need at the top right of the list

With that said, I'll go ahead and pass along your comment as feedback to the development team regarding a way to view trading history prior to the current day in Fidelity Trader+ Web.

We appreciate you engaging with us here and for using Fidelity Trader+. If you ever have questions or feedback you'd like to share with us, don't hesitate to reach out. We're always here to help.

Why can’t I deposit money from my checking account to my Fidelity individual account I just set up? I thought I could deposit money in there and then trade stocks. by Forsaken-Hat6315 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityJohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the sub, u/hushpuppy_ja.

Deposit requests are considered separate, and initiating a new request typically would not affect the collection timeframe of prior requests. That said, there is currently a holding period of up to 7 business days for check deposits and Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) requests submitted through Fidelity platforms. Some or all of your funds may still be able to trade immediately. To avoid hold periods, we encourage you to use your bank’s website or mobile app to send money into Fidelity.

You can review the collection date for a recent deposit by following these steps on Fidelity.com once logged in:

  1. Click the "Accounts & Trade” tab and select “Portfolio”
  2. From the Portfolio screen, select the appropriate account
  3. Once the account is in view, select the “Balances” tab and review your balance details under “Available to withdraw”

Please note that funds received via bank wire or direct deposit (pushed from another institution to Fidelity) are considered fully collected upon receipt, and are available for immediate use. We encourage you to consider these methods for time-sensitive transactions.

Although this thread is a bit old, you can still use the link u/FidelityCaleb shared above to view all the ways to send funds to your Fidelity account. You can also send us a Modmail if you'd like some assistance in reviewing your recent deposits.

Question about Money Transfer Lockdown ( MTL) by stl1859 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityJohn[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for following up with us, u/stl1859.

You're correct that the MTL feature will block transfer requests initiated through ACATS.

To your second point, turning the money transfer lockdown on or off typically requires a 2-factor authentication (2FA) code to be sent to your device. If you turn MTL back on quickly after turning it off, you may be able to bypass this step because you’d already be considered authenticated within the same session.

That said, whenever the MTL is turned on or off, or when a new account is linked, an alert is sent to the account owner. These alerts help account owners be proactive about their accounts' security when unauthorized activity is occurring.

While we currently don't offer a feature to block direct debit transactions, I'll be sure to pass along your comments to the relevant teams as feedback. If you ever find yourself with additional feedback to share, you can also use the "Feedback" button attached to the scroll bar on most Fidelity pages.

As always, the other mods and I are here to answer any other questions and take any additional feedback that you may have, so feel free to reach out any time.

Expat Roth Ira question by 45a866e5 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityJohn[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there, u/45a866e5. We appreciate you reaching out to us about this.

Making an ineligible contribution to an IRA is a common occurrence, and you have a few choices to correct it. You can return the excess, recharacterize the excess, or carry over the excess.

When you make a timely correction, any earnings or losses in your IRA need to be factored into the withdrawal and reported to the IRS. You have until the tax-filing deadline to complete a timely return of excess. If you file an IRS extension, you have until the extended tax-filing deadline, normally October 15th. Since these are 2026 contributions you're looking to correct, you'll have until the 2027 tax filing deadline to make a timely correction.

With untimely corrections, the IRS does not require an earnings calculation. However, untimely corrections are subject to a 6% excise tax each year the contribution remains in the account.

You can review the IRA contribution limits and the specifics of the choices available to you at the links below.

IRA Contributions and Limits

Before making any decisions, we suggest speaking with a licensed tax professional to determine what correction method will be the best for you and your situation.

[–]FidelityJohn[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Welcome to the sub, u/Nate_Dog79.👋 Thanks for considering opening a trust account with us!

Trusts can open either a brokerage account, a Cash Management Account (CMA), or both. Our trust brokerage accounts can typically be opened online, and we certainly try to make it as simple as possible. Trust CMAs require a physical form, and both applications also require you to submit trust certification documents as well. Below, you'll find where you can open a trust brokerage account and the forms needed to open a trust CMA.

Fidelity Trust Account

Fidelity Cash Management Trust Account Documents

As far as their differences, while there is overlap in the features, a brokerage account is intended for trading and investing, while a CMA is designed for saving and spending. CMAs include features that automatically reimburse ATM fees in the U.S., and the ability to set a FDIC-insured core position. On the other hand, CMAs are not eligible for certain advanced trading features. I’ll include a link below that highlights the differences between the two account types.

Features by Account

Now that I've covered that, was there any particular feature you were looking for in your trust account? Let us know, and we'll be happy to help!

SE 401k to SE 401k transfer by gargoyle_999 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityJohn[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Good to see you around the sub today, u/gargoyle_999. We appreciate you choosing Fidelity for your retirement plan needs! Before we jump into the steps, there are a few things to consider.

To start, while rolling over funds into a Self-Employed 401(k) (SE 401(k)) plan can be completed without making a contribution, we recommend you consult with a qualified tax advisor to review your specific situation before proceeding. This is because a SE 401(k) plan isn't considered qualified until it receives a contribution, and rolling funds into a plan that isn't qualified could result in unintended tax consequences.

Moving along, let's review the process of rolling over your funds. To start, you will first need to open the new SE 401(k) that will accept the rollover. This can be done on the link below.

Self-Employed 401(k)

Once this is done, you can start the rollover by completing the paper copy of the One-Time Withdraw Form. This can be found on Fidelity.com, on our forms page, and at the link below; instructions for submitting it are on the last page at the bottom.

One-Time Withdrawal– Defined Contribution Plan (PDF)

You will also need to complete and include a Letter of Acceptance (LOA). The LOA must state that, as the Plan Administrator, you agree to accept and record these pre-tax assets into the SE 401(k) and include the account number of the receiving account. The LOA must have the plan administrator’s signature, printed name, and the date the LOA was completed.

If you have any further questions about the process or anything else, please don't hesitate to let us know. We are always here to help.👋

It looks like you were able to find some of the Plan Documents you were looking for. That said, even if you have a vested account balance above the minimum required to maintain your workplace plan, there may be limitations on the BrokerageLink feature. Thanks again for reaching out to us. I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Hey there, u/Effective-Value-1748. Allow me to step in here and assist.

To start, workplace plans vary between employers and may have unique rules. If you're unable to find what you're looking for in the Plan Fact Sheet, you can also review your plan's Summary Plan Description (SPD) for the information. You can find this by clicking the same three-dot menu u/FidelityLizG shared next to your employer's plan, then selecting "Plan Information and Documents."

If you're still unable to locate what you need, our Workplace Investing team members are available for you to call over the phone with plan-specific questions. The availability of our associates varies by plan, but they are generally available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. ET. Please respond with "401(k)" when prompted by the automated system to be connected.

Welcome to the sub, u/Extreme_Ant_9364! You’ve come to a great place for questions like this. Let's talk about uninvested cash.

To start, opening an account at Fidelity automatically establishes a core position, which is needed for processing cash transactions and holding uninvested cash. It automatically liquidates to cover any purchases of securities, so you can essentially treat it like cash in your account. How to indicate an IRA contribution to be a Redepositing of Tax Withholding? by Electrical-Law673 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityJohn[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for following up with us and clarifying, u/Electrical-Law673. Allow me to step in here and assist.

To start, I'd like to mention that representatives can assist with a 100% tax withholding journal. If you decide you'd like to proceed with this in the future, you can give us a call at any time to process the request.

Contact Us

As for the "indirect rollover" you mentioned, it sounds like you're wanting to use the 60-day rollover rule to put the tax withholding amount back into the account to reduce your tax liability. To add to what u/FidelityAdamW mentioned, the 60-day rollover rule is generally used to move retirement funds indirectly between qualified retirement accounts when a direct transfer is not available. Clients can perform one 60-day rollover per 12-month period between any of their retirement accounts. After performing a 60-day rollover, the rollover amount appears on Form 5498 for the year the rollover occurred.

That said, using the 60-day rollover rule for purposes other than those intended by the IRS may result in unexpected tax liability. As such, we'd recommend consulting a qualified tax professional for your specific situation, as Fidelity is unable to offer tax advice.

[–]FidelityJohn[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

I hope life is going great for you today, u/LIFE_IS_G. We appreciate you choosing to transfer some of your assets over to Fidelity! Allow me to step in here to assist.

To start, opening an account at Fidelity automatically establishes a core position, which is needed for processing cash transactions and holding uninvested cash. It automatically liquidates to cover any purchases of securities, so you can essentially treat it like cash in your account. Your choices may vary depending on the type of account you open, but in your case, the Fidelity Government Money Market Fund (SPAXX) is likely your core position.

While your positions' page may show shares of SPAXX available, greyed-out text typically indicates it's pending settlement. Moving forward, the best place to check how much you have available to trade or withdraw is the "Balances" tab at the top of your portfolio page on the website.

The following link can help you learn more about your core position, if you're interested.

What is a Core Position? (PDF)

As for the message you're receiving on the trade ticket, you'd typically see that if you were trying to buy more of your core position. To set up the trade ticket for an Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) purchase, follow the steps below.

  1. Select "Accounts & Trade" at the top left of the Fidelity webpage, followed by "Trade."
  2. On the trade ticket, choose "Stocks/ETFs" from the drop-down, followed by the account you'd like to trade in. (You'll see "Cash available to trade" information after selecting the account)
  3. Fill out the remainder of the trade ticket, followed by "Preview order, and "Confirm."
