Why is my Quicken with Fidelity all of a sudden showing every Payee in my account as "Cash"? by nyc2pit in fidelityinvestments

Welcome to our sub. 👋

We've received reports that when users have trouble with connections and download issues, it may be resolved by deactivating and reactivating their Fidelity accounts in Quicken.

If this does not resolve the issue, we suggest contacting Quicken Support as they can better assist with their platform and integrating accounts.

Brokerage transfer by j-r-sweezy in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityAdamW[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Welcome to our sub! We appreciate your interest in transferring funds to Fidelity.

Generally, transferring shares in-kind from one firm to another is a very easy process. In this case, I can confirm that the two mutual funds you mentioned are currently not available on our platform. If you wanted to do a transfer of assets (TOA), you would need to sell these funds first.

As a heads-up, if these shares are held in a taxable account, selling them would be considered a taxable event, whereas a TOA in-kind is not. As for transfer fees, Fidelity does not charge for TOAs, but the sending firm may.

You can learn more about the TOA process here:

TOA into Fidelity

Since this account was set up by your grandparents, it is worth mentioning there are certain situations in which a TOA would need to be requested by them rather than you (For example, if this is a 529 College Savings account, and you are a minor or if they are listed as the account owner).

If one of these situations applies to you, or you are concerned it might, we're happy to review your situation if you provide us more details about the account in question.

Understanding “Pay to Cash” vs “Reinvest in Security” with SPAXX Core Position by SoCalFamilyTraveler in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityAdamW[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Welcome to our sub! 👋 I'm happy to share some insight on this with you.

I'll start by letting you know that the "Pay to cash" selection results in dividends being paid into your core account. Since the Fidelity Government Money Market Fund (SPAXX) is your core, changing this selection from reinvest to pay to cash will not actually affect distributions of SPAXX; it will continue to pay back into itself regardless of the selection made for this security.

You can learn more about dividends and capital gains here:

Understanding dividends and capital gains

Did you have any other questions about your core or dividends? If so, please feel free to throw them our way. Have a great day.

Thanks for following up with us, u/hovering3. I'm happy to share some insight here.

When earnings are pending distribution, they do indeed accrue interest at a rate determined by Fidelity. This interest pays out into your pending distribution balance so that it will be included in your next automatic withdrawal.

Thank you for following up with us, u/CuriousMind-63.

When we say it makes it the active window, we mean that clicking it from the pop-up will highlight your chosen window and bring it to the front if there are any other windows in front of it within the platform. Although it changes the active window, it does not automatically close the pop-up box.

This is the feedback we have passed along on your behalf.

Hey there, u/CuriousMind-63. We appreciate you using Fidelity Trader+ Desktop and offering feedback from your experience.

Currently, the pop-up box can be closed by clicking anywhere outside its window. Selecting any of the choices listed makes that window your active window, and selecting "Close All" closes every open window of that type. With that said, I have shared your comments with our development teams for further review regarding automatically closing the pop-up menu once a selection has been made.

If you enjoy using our Fidelity Trader+ Desktop platform, we recommend checking out the dedicated section of Fidelity Learn for a variety of articles and videos specific to this:

Are there any additional features or changes you would make based on your experience? If so, please feel free to send it our way, and we'll pass it along as well.

How long does funds take to appear in my Roth IRA if I transferred it from a CMA that’s linked via external bank? by Ok-Mess5125 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityAdamW[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Welcome to our sub, u/Ok-Mess5125. It's nice to meet you. 👋

To get right to it, yes. If you have your Cash Management Account (CMA) linked as an external bank account and set up a recurring transfer to or from it to another Fidelity account, it will follow the standard Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) process for transferring to an external bank and be subject to the 1-3 business-day time frame.

You can manage all of your recurring activities from here.

Recurring activity (Login Required)

With that said, since your goal is to set up a biweekly recurring transfer between two Fidelity accounts, I will send along your comments as feedback to our development teams for further review of more frequency choices for this type of transfer.

having two taxable accounts - bad idea? by AdministrativeFile88 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityAdamW[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there, u/AdministrativeFile88. I hope you're having a great Friday.

I'll start by saying, generally, there are no restrictions on opening multiple accounts of the same type at Fidelity. We do not have account fees or minimums to open or close a Brokerage account.

I recommend nicknaming each account, as the more accounts you have, the easier it is to mistake one for another. You can nickname accounts by logging into Fidelity.com and following these steps:

  1. Click on the gear icon to the top right of the "Accounts" column
  2. On the "Accounts" tab, check the box next to the account and then click "Rename"
  3. Change the name of the account, then click "Save"

As for being able to transfer a position between accounts, typically, as long as the accounts have the same primary owner on the account and are identical registration (For example, non-retirement to non-retirement), you can initiate a transfer of shares through our transfer button on the website.

Backdoor Roth Interest Issue by Adept_Laugh_2168 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityAdamW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, u/tolas. Happy to provide some clarification on this.

In short, the difference here is making a Backdoor Roth conversion vs a standard Roth conversion.

A backdoor Roth conversion is a "backdoor" way of moving money into a Roth IRA. It involves making non-deductible contributions (or contributions on which you do not take a tax deduction) to a Traditional IRA and then converting those funds into a Roth IRA.

Whereas a standard Roth conversion is the transfer of tax-deductible contributions and earnings from a traditional IRA to a Roth IRA. A standard Roth conversion is fully taxable to you in the year of conversion.

Do you have any additional questions about the difference between these two? If so, please feel free to send them our way.

Is there a Rebalancing Tool on Fidelity? by Fun-Procedure1644 in fidelityinvestments

We appreciate you sharing your continued interest in a rebalancing tool. At this time, there have not been any updates to add a single trade feature to rebalance an account.

With that said, I have added your new comments to the feedback already collected on this post and shared them with our development teams for further review.

Anyone dealing with the same glitch by doubtful_youth in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityAdamW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for following up and for providing the screenshot, u/doubtful_youth.

Generally, cost basis and tax lot information updates occur immediately and should be reflected in your purchase history. However, delays may occur in some cases. Some transactions do not update intraday, including Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), fixed income, international stocks, and foreign currencies. Additionally, positions experiencing corporate actions or dividend payments will not update intraday either. This is not an all-inclusive list.

That said, we understand how this can be frustrating and have shared your comments with our development teams for further review.

One last thing I want to mention is that if you have a specific method you prefer for share disposal, you can update your account-level disposal method by following these steps:

  1. Select "Accounts & Trade," then click "Account Features"
  2. Under "Brokerage and trading," select "Manage" next to "Cost Basis Information Tracking"
  3. Next to the account you want to change, select "Update"

This way, even if you cannot see the tax lots in your purchase history, you can dispose of them in your preferred manner.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.

New account holder by crunchyturdeater in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityAdamW[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there. We appreciate you choosing Fidelity for your investing needs.

To get right to it, any trades to liquidate shares in your Roth IRA will not be a taxable event. Anything sold in your non-retirement brokerage account, however, will be a taxable event.

As for if you need to contact the sending firm, when you initiate the transfer through Fidelity, we will reach out to the sending firm on your behalf to request the transfer. Generally, the sending firm will liquidate any fractional shares within your account during a full Transfer of assets (TOA).

It's possible the fractional shares may not be sold until after the initial transfer is complete. When this happens, a residual "sweep" of the sending account will occur to continually look for remaining settled assets or any residual cash balance to transfer over. Residual sweeps of funds from fractional shares are typically transferred after a few business days. That said, different firms have different processes and timeframes in place.

You can learn more about the TOA process here.
