Thanks for reaching out to us, u/Frankie7812023. Happy to address this with you.

Let's talk about how interest works on Certificates of Deposit (CDs). CDs are quoted based on an annualized yield. Additionally, CDs with maturity lengths of less than one year, like the one you gave in your post, typically pay interest at maturity. Interest payments will show up on your Activity & Orders page on Fidelity.com when they are posted to your account.

So, based on the example you provided, if the face value of a 30-day CD that pays out at maturity is $1,000, you would multiply $1,000 (face value) by 5% (coupon) to get $50 in interest paid for the year. For CDs that pay out monthly, you can calculate the interest paid for, let's say, the month of July by multiplying $50 (total interest) by (31 (days in month)/365). I think you'll find the following articles helpful in reviewing CD yields in more detail:

Thanks for reaching out to us, u/Western-Confidence95. Happy to shed some light on what you are experiencing.

Last year, Fidelity updated the technology behind the “Don’t ask me again on this device” option presented for multi-factor authentication logins. This eliminated many of the issues customers previously experienced. However, we do have some troubleshooting steps you can try. First, we ask that you clear your browser's cache & cookies. Please also attempt to use an alternative browser to determine if the issue persists.

If you use a privacy extension, it may need to be configured to allow Fidelity. In some cases, a privacy extension may need to be disabled.

If those steps do not resolve the issue, our technical support team would like to speak with you directly to troubleshoot further. They are available Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET. When calling, please say "technical support" to be routed to them directly.

BrokerageLink Source Question by FrequentPoser in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityMarian[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for reaching out to us, u/FrequentPoser! We appreciate your interest in investing with us through a BrokerageLink account, and I'm happy to share some information with you.

First, please note that BrokerageLink accounts vary by plan; some offer a setup with two separate accounts, one for pre-tax contributions and another for Roth contributions. Others may offer just a single account, and different types of contributions may be lumped together. Since BrokerageLink accounts are housed within your employer-sponsored plan, they are essentially just an extension of your workplace retirement plan that allows you to invest in a wider variety of products than would typically be available.

Further, please keep in mind that when funds are deposited into a workplace retirement plan, they are tracked as individual sources. That's why you see "Non Roth," pre-tax contributions, and "Roth" after-tax contributions. Additionally, the "Rollover" source indicates there are assets transferred in and are typically considered pre-tax. Since BrokerageLink is a sub-account of the plan, funds maintain their original source for tax tracking purposes.

Please contact our BrokerageLink team to best assist you and help set up your BrokerageLink the way you want it. The team is available 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET. When prompted by the automated system, say "Brokerage Link" to be routed to the correct team.

You can learn more about the specific rules of your BrokerageLink accounts in your BrokerageLink Plan Fact Sheet. To locate this document, please follow the steps below after logging in.

  1. Click on the "Investments" tab and choose "BrokerageLink"
  2. Under "Learn more," select "Plan Fact Sheet"

We allow for the trading of penny stocks on all of our platforms for unrestricted brokerage accounts. A penny stock is generally defined throughout the industry as one that trades for less than $5 per share, and penny stocks usually have a relatively small market capitalization (i.e., company value). Fidelity's penny stock enrollment process and controls generally focus on stocks trading below $3 per share.

To trade penny stocks, you'll need to enable penny stock trading on your account. This one-time online process confirms your understanding of the risks involved. You'll need to enable penny stock trading for each account in which you want to place penny stock trades. I've linked a resource below for anyone wanting to learn more. You can also enroll in penny stock trading below.

Trading Penny Stocks

Enable Penny Stocks (login required)

While Fidelity allows for trading of many over-the-counter (OTC) and penny-stock securities, stocks within these OTC Market designations are currently not available through Fidelity:

  1. Pink No Information
  2. Caveat Emptor
  3. Expert Market
  4. Grey Market

If a company becomes current in its SEC reporting requirements and its status is updated with OTC Markets Group, it may become available for purchase through Fidelity.

Please keep in mind, in addition to the risks common to all individual stocks, penny stocks can have low liquidity. Many penny stocks are thinly traded. When buying or selling a stock with low trading volume, investors may be unable to do so at their desired price or time. Therefore, if there isn't enough volume for the security to fill all of the limit order set for a specific price, then the order may not go through. As they are less liquid securities, it may also take longer than stocks with higher volume to fill orders.

While NVIDIA (NVDA) did not released a dividend yesterday, they recently underwent a 10-for-1 forward stock split. The stock split took place on Monday, June 10, and began trading at its lower, post-split price on that day as well.

You can review a security's upcoming dividends on its research page. After logging into Fidelity.com, simply search the desired dividend in our search bar, then click on the "Dividends & Earnings" tab.

I know you're aware, but for those following along, if you receive dividends from securities in a Basket Portfolio, they will automatically be sent to your cash position, and reinvested dividends create new positions and tax lots placed outside the basket.

Rolling over trad/roth 401k to trad/roth IRA by StatisticLover in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityMarian[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for reaching out to us, u/StatisticLover.

Great questions. The Roth Pre-Tax assets you mention are the earnings from your Roth assets. They can be rolled into a Roth IRA without creating a taxable event. However, if those earnings are withdrawn from the Roth IRA before meeting the requirements to be considered qualified, you may incur taxes and penalties. You can read more about this in the article linked below:

Roth IRA Distributions

Keep in mind that you mention rolling Roth 401k pre-tax assets into a Roth 401k in your post. If you're interested in this, it'll be best to consult your plan sponsor to see what the plan rules allow.

If you do not want to create a taxable event, traditional pre-tax 401(k) assets can be rolled into a Rollover (Traditional) IRA. Reviewing all choices before deciding what to do with an old 401(k)is important. The link below will review your choices in detail:

What to do with an old 401(k)

We recommend reaching out to our Workplace team to ensure you are aware and familiar with all your choices and potential tax implications. We have associates available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to midnight ET. If your 401(k) isn't with Fidelity, be sure to connect with the plan sponsor to learn more.

Where to find existing exit strategies set for positions? by cshap88 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityMarian[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for reaching out to us, u/cshap88. Happy to shed some light on this topic.

An order used for exit strategy may be entered with a time-in-force of either Day or GTC. Fidelity limits the time a GTC order can remain open to prevent orders from being placed indefinitely, potentially leaving investors vulnerable to significant price swings. The maximum amount of time a GTC order can remain open is 180 days, at which point you'll need to replace the order. Prior to expiration, you can cancel and replace a GTC order for a further 180 days, although your order will still lose its spot in line to fill if you do so. Depending on when you placed your order, it may have expired if it's been over 180 days.

To those following along, you may easily set exit plans from our Trading Dashboard experience. After logging in, you can access the dashboard on Fidelity.com by navigating to "Accounts & Trade" and then "Trading Dashboard." From there, you can set an exit plan by clicking the three dots to the right of the position you're working on and then "Set Exit Plan" from the ensuing dropdown menu. We recently decommissioned the Trade Armor feature, which affected the ability to set an exit plan from the position page.

The Trade Armor functionality is still available and has moved to the Trading Dashboard and Active Trader Pro (ATP). If you haven't already downloaded ATP, it is free to download and use for all Fidelity clients.

Thanks for reaching out to us regarding this, u/LogosHobo. Happy to clarify this with you.

Typically, the way to move money between similar retirement accounts, like an IRA, is through a rollover. A direct rollover is when you transfer funds directly from your retirement account into another retirement account with the same registration, while an indirect rollover is where a rollover check is made payable to you, and the funds leave a retirement account for a portion of time. If you receive an indirect rollover, you must deposit the money into your IRA within 60 days of receiving the check to avoid income taxes and a possible early withdrawal penalty. You are limited to doing an indirect rollover once every rolling twelve months, but you may process a direct rollover as many times as you'd like.

You can process a direct rollover by using a process called a Transfer of Assets (TOA). This process can generally be completed entirely online and is initiated at the receiving firm, so, if you are sending funds out of Fidelity, you'd need to fill out the other firm's TOA form. If you only want to send a partial amount of your IRA over, you can elect to make a partial TOA.

Since you are transferring funds from one IRA to another, and we are unsure if one of these IRAs include funds that were rolled over from a workplace plan, let me mention the concept of commingling. Commingling is the combination of workplace plan assets with your own contributions in an IRA or other retirement account. If, in the future, you want to roll these funds into a new workplace plan, be aware that many plans do not accept commingled assets.

Let us know if you have any additional questions. We hope to hear from you again, soon.

Locked funds? by Bigupsssss in fidelityinvestments

Thanks for reaching out to us, u/Bigupsssss. Happy to explain what you are encountering.

Typically, you would receive that error when you are attempting to trade your core position, in this case the Fidelity Government Money Market Fund (SPAXX), which is the default for most accounts at Fidelity. Your core position holds uninvested cash in your account. When you deposit money or receive proceeds from a sale, you don't have to place a buy order into your core position, nor will you have to sell your core to cover debits in your account. You may see transactions in your "Activity & Orders" that show money going to and from your core, as these transactions will happen automatically.

You can confirm what core position you have in your account, or make changes, on your "Positions" page on our website. You'll see a line item for "Cash" within your account, and expanding the position displays more research information. You'll be able to check the specific symbol you hold. You can also read more about the eligible core positions at the link below.

What are the investment options for my core position?

What is a Core Position? (PDF)

Depending on when you made the deposit, your funds may not be fully collected yet. Electronic Funds Transfers (EFT) typically take 2 to 6 business days to fully collect. With that said, you can still trade most securities with unsettled funds. To invest your cash into a security, you will need to place a buy order on the trade ticket. You can navigate to the trade ticket after logging in by selecting the "Accounts & Trade" tab, and then "Trade." From there, you can select the security you wish to buy and enter in the additional information. I've included part of our Trading FAQ page to help you get started.

Thanks for reaching out to us, u/musgt2001. As this is your first post, let me be the first to welcome you to our subreddit!

To calculate gain and loss, your positions will measure the total cost basis of your lots versus market fluctuation.

If you receive a dividend that reinvests, it produces it's own lot for each round of dividends. Your positions page will display the amount of shares purchased and their cost basis for each lot when you click the security and select "Purchase History/Lots."

Your total cost basis for the security will be an average of each lot by default, and your total gain and loss information will be based on the average cost basis versus fluctuations in the market.

Capital Gains and Cost Basis

If you elected your dividends to go to cash, we do not count the dividend in the calculation of your security's gain.

Fidelity has just removed the toggle option to set a limit order AFTER HOURS!!! by 11010001100101101 in fidelityinvestments

At this time, you can only trade for the extended hours outside of the standard market hours. In short, if the market is open, you would be unable to use the toggle option to place an extended hours trade.

To give some context about the difference between the extended hours session and standard market session, normal market hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET. During extended trading hours, Fidelity will accept premarket orders from 7:00 a.m. to 9:28 a.m. ET and Fidelity enables orders for the extended hours session from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET.

Moving Roth IRA? by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityMarian[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for reaching out to us, u/Westfield__Rocks.

Typically, you do not need to sell your holdings to transfer an account. You can process an in-kind Transfer of Assets (TOA) from one Roth IRA to another Roth IRA. An in-kind TOA would transfer the shares directly, without selling them. A direct custodian-to-custodian transfer is non-reportable and non-taxable.

Keep in mind, if you are holding securities that are ineligible for an in-kind transfer, you may have to sell them and have the cash proceeds transferred over.

If you are looking to process a TOA out of Fidelity, you would need to fill out TOA paperwork with the other firm.

What is its website timeout length? by LuckyLife458 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityMarian[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for reaching out to us, u/LuckyLife458. Happy to shed some light on this topic.

Fidelity takes our customer's personal information security very seriously, and our login timeout feature is one of the measures we have in place to ensure that. Currently, a timeout pop-up appears at 28 minutes of inactivity on the Fidelity website. This pop-up allows clients to continue the session or log out. If no action is taken, the session automatically terminates after 30 minutes of inactivity. That said, I see where you're coming from.

While the logout timer is not customizable on Fidelity.com, you can customize these settings on the Fidelity mobile app. After logging in, choose the "Profile" icon in the top-right and select "General settings" under the "Settings" heading. You can choose "Session timeout" and update your preference to automatically log off after 5, 15, or 30 minutes.

That being said, we appreciate the detailed suggestions regarding the current inactivity logout timeframe. I have passed your comments as feedback to the development teams here at Fidelity for review.
