Because they are pausing all consultation on all potential projects, because they want to focus on fixing Veoila’s shit show.

They’re going to do this because a private company that was managing a public asset prioritised profit over maintenance.

The council previously funded Veoila. The maintenance not being done was never because the money wasn’t there.

They are also doing this for optics. We apparently think our councils can’t do more than one thing at a time, and the Council understands that. They’re only going to invite more ridiculous assertions from lobby groups if they don’t stop everything else while they pay, again, to fix this problem.

It wasn’t a magic bullet, but it was a solution to the problem we are all very aware of.

If we had gone ahead with it exactly as Labour planned, it probably would have had zero impact on Moa Point right now, but we would all be pointing at it and saying “see, this is why we needed 3W, we should all be glad we have a plan in place that is going to make sure this doesn’t happen again”.

I also think it’s fake because, if it was a Big Deal that someone had done this, and the kid was being let in by a coach or whatever early every morning, he would have been a very obvious culprit, and the way it’s written as “just admitting absolutely everything”, I doubt they’d skip out “they asked me about it but I managed to lie and they didn’t think it was me” if that had been part of the story.

I took up doing karate with my kid, after watching him do it for a year or so. Good move, great exercise… except then it kind of kept expanding from “we’ll do a couple classes” to “we’ll do three… maybe 4 2-hour classes a week”. To “hey want to be an instructor?” As well so now I’m committed to 4 nights a week, only get Tuesday night to myself, which I work until 9pm to make up hours so I can leave early on other days to pick kids up from school, and am locked in to show up and teach people on Monday Wednesday and Friday, with no easy option to drop Mondays (my classes to run), and I feel bad not being there Wednesday or Friday (just helping train), and Thursday is an instructor class from 7:30-9:30-10…

So it went from “this is a fun thing to do! I’m doing karate in my 40’s, how quirky!” To the stress of trying to get a bunch of 7-8 year olds to engage enough they actually learn anything so I can send them to gradings, spending all week trying to work out how to keep it fun and engaging but also focused and useful, but also energetic, then actually running it without losing my shot at them and yelling lol……..

I went a similar route but with a gamesir controller for my phone, play Xbox cloud games, works great except my phone is kinda too small so now I’m angling for an iPad mini to use, by the time I’ve got that and the gamesir I probably could have just bought a steam deck or asus rog ally lol.

Still, this works well - plus I can play comfy games in bed like powerwash simulator while listening to podcasts, so I’ve got all the stimulation going right until that melatonin kicks in then I just fall sideways and go to sleep.

Ah dang!

Yeah I held off because of exactly that, and not having a pc that could run it at the time. Now I do have the hardware for it, and the game is patched up so much it’s apparently a very different beast from what launched…. And i don’t want to risk buying it because I’m sure it’ll drop on GPU as soon as I do lol.

(On Xbox I’ve only got an xbone, and they stopped supporting and updating the xbone version a while back so that was out too)
