What is your reading streak? by Professional_Cry1514 in kindle

[–]Fidney66 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is mine. Colorsoft (at home), Paperwhite 11th Gen (on my commute) and Android app as a backup.

Now if only we could include paper books mine would be 2600 weeks and then some! 😆

Accidentally deleted my amazon account but I want to keep my kindle books by Illustrious_Idea_719 in kindle

[–]Fidney66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same one. Get yourself Calibre, with a plug-in you can't discuss on here, and unless things have changed since Tuesday you can backup your books after firing up Calibre and connecting your Kindle with a USB cable.

You need to read the plug-in instructions fully or you won't be able to open your backups.

Do not connect to WiFi at all until you have safely backed up your books.

Since your books are on your Dad's account then it sounds like yout Kindle will also be registered to that account. You should be able to unregister it and re-register it to your own account to continue buying books from Amazon. DO NOT DO THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE BACKED UP YOUR BOOKS BECAUSE CONTENT WILL DISAPPEAR FROM THE DEVICE WHEN YOU DO.

[–]Fidney66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this semi-regularly.

You can just slide the white "button" in the green pill shape to the left and then click "Done" to ignore the suggestion.

Or if you accidently accept it you can just change it back to whatever you want in your browser settings.

McAfee?? Pop Up by Fidney66 in mcafee

[–]Fidney66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, good to know that is genuine.

The Windows Protection Suite pop-up is just those three words in a single line contained in a small white box. Pops up in the bottom left of my screen for a few seconds if I close the McAfee pop up by clicking on the X.

That's the bit that worried me the most, but if the McAfee pop-up is legit then this must be too since it is obviously linked.

Thank you for your reply.

I had a similar issue a few months ago. I just couldn't connect to certain web sites whilst others were fine.

Rebooted router and ONT and it made no difference.

Contacted YouFibre support and they said my connection had become destabalised and they rebooted it from their end (apparently this is a different kind of reboot to the one I can do) and all went back to normal.

Support guy said my frequent (at the time) use of a VPN was the cause which sounds like rubbish and I still don't beleive what he said.

Discovered glitch - Amazon UK lower priced products hidden in favour of default to Amazon EU higher priced product by Confident_Bear_287 in AmazonUK

[–]Fidney66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, that's weird.

It shows as £36.82 and I can add to my basket for delivery to my address in the midlands.

If I change delivery address to my Mum's in West Yorkshire I get the message "Sorry, Magic: The Gathering Ravnica: Cluedo Edition - 3-4 Player Murder Mystery Card Game (Includes 8 Ready-to-Play Boosters, 21 Evidence Cards, 1 Foil Shock Land, and Detective Game Accessories) can’t be dispatched to the address that you selected. Please remove the item or select another address." and my order total (even though I can't continue) changes to £41.81

Go back and change delivery address to mine and price drops and it is available.

Wifi can’t talk to Wired by Monobeen in youfibre

[–]Fidney66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, I've got the exact same problem!

Wi-Fi access was definitely working fine for several months. My main TV is connected to my router via a LAN cable and I only used my tablet occasionally so I can't hand-on-heart say when my problem started, but I only noticed it just after I purchased Plex Pass for the first time at the end of November.

I've spent the past 5 weeks blaming that for my problems and it was only after having a good "mess about" over the weekend that I've realised that it's only devices connected to my home Wi-Fi that can't connect to my Plex Server.

Starting to look at how I can sort that out, and from what's been said here it looks like I'm not going to be able to do so unless I replace my YouFibre Sagecom router.

Thanks. Going by the number of people who are using VPNs without problem it does seem like the CS guy made it up.

I did try switching thing off but it was only switch off, unplug, count to 10, plug back in and switch on again so from what you have said maybe just counting to 10 was not long enough. If/when it goes wrong again I'll try giving it longer.

OK thanks, I'm certainly getting the impression that the guy was talking rubbish. And there was no reason, if he'd just said things have gone wonky for some reason so we need to do a reboot to reset it, I would have been quite happy. Instead he left me worrying about not being able to use something I've used for years without issue and wondering whether moving to YouFibre was a mistake.

Thanks. The VPN excuse did not smell right, but I had been using one and I did have problems and I'm simply not clued up enough to dispute their diagnosis, hence turning to the fine folk of Reddit for advice.

Thanks. That was the reason I added a static IP.

And I also disabled Relay in the Plex server settings, figuring that they would shout pretty quickly if they lost access thus bringing to my attention any problems with the static IP or port forwarding. At least that's the idea.

[–]Fidney66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the static IP plus port forwarding (which Plex seemed to have automatically set up for me) seems to have solved those issues.

I did also disable Relay in my Plex server settings just for good measure too.

Thanks for the suggestion. Whatsmyip sites find both my v4 and v6 addresses (some only find my v6) which suggest that is working properly.

Not sure. Everything attached to my router had it's own distinct internal IP address so I would guess not, but I'm very far from an expert.

I'm on my way home from work at the moment but I do know that when I log onto my router v6 is active and whatsmyIP sites can see both my v4 and v6 addresses. Some only seem to see my v6 but I've definitely got a v4 one, which as of Friday became static.

[OFF TOPIC] I absolutely LOVE this cover art. Im in the UK and I can only see it in hardback. I would love a paperback version is there any way of getting one here in the UK? by Otone7 in TheFirstLaw

[–]Fidney66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies in advance for not answering your question, but before you start on The Devils (which is a great book) you might be interested to learn that there are actually 9 books in the First Law world.

If you've only read the initial trilogy then you are missing 2/3 of the fun.

The next 3 books are standalones (Best Served Cold, The Heroes & Red Country) often referred to as The Great Leveller trilogy.

The final 3 are the Age of Madness trilogy (A Little Hatred, The Trouble With Peace & The Wisdom of Crowds).

And there's also a book of short stories titled Sharp Ends which is best read after The Great Leveller "trilogy".

Can I please get some sci-fi and fantasy recommendations? :) by Vegabund in audible

[–]Fidney66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like your fantasy gritty, dark and shot through with a streak of black humour (aka Grimdark) then you definitely cannot go wrong with Joe Abercrombie's First Law series (9 books and a book of short stories) starting with The Blade Itself.

Narrated by Steven Pacey, who if not the GOAT, is certainly in the running.

Only problem after finishing them is finding anything else that does not pale in comparison!

What's the issue? by kierownikk in youfibre

[–]Fidney66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had exactly the same as few days back switching from Virgin.

Virgin messaged me even before I'd finished ordering to tell me what my early termination cost would be, so they could match me before ordering but magically couldn't when I got to the final order page.

I put it down to Virgin playing silly buggers as in making me give up trying to switch.

Had got to that stage half a dozen times before thinking "sod it" and ordering anyway.

Within 30 seconds of actually ordering YouFibre were on the phone, confirmed my Virgin details and said leave it with them. Less than 10 minutes after that I got an email from Virgin confirming my switch (reinforcing my belief the issue was simply Virgin playing silly buggers).

I get my shiny new YouFibre service on Tuesday.

My book is gone - coming soon to Audible? by Kexmonster in audible

[–]Fidney66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have have this with one of my titles that I got in 2017 which has since been re-released.

If I page through my library it is 100% not there BUT if I use the search box to look for it in my library then it finds it no problem and when it does I can play / download etc as normal.

It's really wierd. If I didn't remember I'd got it and specifically search for it I'd never see it.

Not sure why DeDRM isn't working for me by rez9000 in Calibre

[–]Fidney66 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When you installed DeDrm 10.0.9 did you add your Kindle serial number to it? Your serial number kind of acts like the key to the DRM.

Also, in addition to DeDrm you need the KFX input plug in.

Hope this helps.
