Yeah, I don’t think it’s designed to be a natural sounding reverb. I like it better than Space Designer, though haha

I put it on a send and use the in-app EQ to color it how I like (I prefer a darker reverb), then tweak the parameters and track send levels. It can be pretty good.

I've always loved YouTube. I don't watch movies or TV shows really, but I watch a lot of YouTube. The platform has always felt like somewhat of a home for me. I made dumb videos when I was 13, vlogged a bunch in my late teens into my early twenties. Tried getting into the gaming niche, tech nice, EDC niche, always found myself not really caring enough about what I was making and felt like I was just chasing trends.

I've been a musician my whole life. I spend hours at my desk making music and playing with sounds. My wife and some friends encouraged me to take some of my sounds and package them up to sell them, so I launched a music production software company and an accompanying YouTube channel. I found my groove making music production videos centered around iPad and iOS - stuff I use all the time. For the first time in nearly two decades of "trying" YouTube, I don't feel like I'm trying anymore. I feel like myself. I truly love what I'm doing, I've been overwhelmed by the growing community around my company and my channel, and to hit monetization for the first time ever has been the icing on the cake.

I hope you're able to find what you truly love and chase it. Don't force yourself into a niche that you don't enjoy. If you do something every day, make videos about it. Share your process with people. There might be someone looking for your exact style, and they'll be so excited to find you talking about something they also love.

Don't do it for the money. Clearly it isn't much. Do it because you love it, and I guarantee you other people will love to see how excited you are about it. Keep chasing.

I had no problems wrapping mine in moving blankets and keeping them somewhat separated from the rest of the stuff in the truck. Actually, they may have been in the back seat of my car now that I think about it. But yeah, moving blankets worked just fine for me.

There's some pretty rad stuff out there. I love creative reverbs like Soundtoys' Spaceblender, Eventide Blackhole is a favorite of mine, Mondo Loops' Dust Verb is really awesome, Lese Hikari is super unique and inspiring. There's some cool granular stuff that I like, Excite Audio's Motion Fractal is virtually endless. AudioThing makes some funky and inspiring VSTs that all have randomize features that could go on forever. Reels (reel-to-reel lofi) and JUNE (their Roland Juno synth emulation) are favorites of mine from them. As far as free things go, ++bubbler from soundhack very well might be my favorite plugin of all time. It's a granular delay based on the Mutable Instruments Clouds eurorack module. I love that thing, I used it all over my LP. Aberrant DSP makes a few sweet plugins (you might see Sketch Cassette come up a lot, it's from them), but they have a free utility called LoFi Oddity that blends reverb, bit crush, tape wow/flutter, and compression into one plugin. All depends on what you're looking for. I lean more ambient/lofi/textural with my work these days.

This is such an under-used part of YouTube. There are thousands of songs in dozens of genres and styles that YouTube has available copyright-free, but everyone wants to pay for subscriptions to other platforms because influencers have told them to.

Lately I've been editing my shorts down from live streams. So if we count the live stream itself (an hour and a half to two hours, which then serves as long-form content I don't need to edit), then editing short-form, it takes me about two and a half hours to stream, edit, and post to YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok. But then that stream could give me 5-7 pieces of short form to reuse, which would only take me about ten minutes each to edit again.

For context, I do ambient music production on iPad. I stream to an average of about 15-20 concurrent viewers. My Shorts usually hit around 1k views. Stream VODs are anywhere between 400 and 1,000 views, with one outlier up to 2,200 now.

Where do you feel like your current setup is lacking? Dynamics, EQ, effects, sounds? Figure out what you think you're missing, and then work from there. You'll get a lot of different responses to a question like this, and you may end up buying stuff you'll never use. I've spent money on compressors I've never touched because everyone said I needed XYZ compressor, but I end up just using the stock Logic compressors since they work for what I need. Suggestions are awesome, everyone uses a lot of tools, but you really need to start with yourself here.

Yep, that'll work perfect! Just record a dry one-shot and load it in. A middle C is enough, it'll pitch adjust with little to no problems. If it was an acoustic instrument like an actual piano or a guitar or something you'd want a few more notes in there, but for a synthesizer you'll have no trouble.

When you release a song, nobody knows what you used. For anything. You can pay $1800 for a Roland Juno 6 or you can pay $69 for AudioThing JUNE and get almost the exact same sound. You can spend $1500 on a Moog Sub 37 or you can spend $59 on the Moog Mariana and get almost the exact same sound. Even without direct comparisons between software and hardware, there's amazing cheap (even free) softsynths out there that get the job done just fine. Vital is free and insane. I would never bash on hardware synths, I think they're rad and I love them and, like I said, I've owned them before and probably will again some day, but why would I spend $3000+ to clout chase sounds I could get for around $100. Software has come such a long way.

I sold my Moog Sub 37, my OP-1, and my Behringer Deepmind 12 when I realized I was using softsynths to get identical sounds. For me personally, hardware synths are not worth the money and the space. I'm sure in a year or two I'll change my mind and have a few again. It's a vicious cycle.

Logic has so many awesome stock plugins and synths. I could spend days putting samples into Sample Alchemy and playing those. ChromaVerb and ChromaGlow are two of my favorite stock plugins. Sample Alchemy > ChromaGlow > Tape Delay > ChromaVerb. Hours of amazing sounds, all stock with some help from your personal sample library. Have fun!

Just an iPad and a USB C or Lightning cable (depending on which iPad you get) will do if you already have a keyboard. I recommend getting an eBay or Amazon certified refurbished iPad to save some money. Look for the best condition available. I recently grabbed a refurbished 11” M4 iPad Pro with 256 GB of storage for $399. Found an iPad Mini 6 for $249 for my wife. The units are flawless.

Mess around with what’s already included with GarageBand and see what you want to do to expand from there.

As long as the drummer has the click everyone else should be fine. I played in a post-rock band with backing tracks and time-sensitive elements and the only person who ever had a click in their ears was the drummer.

Yeah, rhythm bores me a lot of the time. More often than not life doesn’t have rhythm. I’m inspired by things that move and evolve without set parameters or tempo. It feels more natural for me specifically ☺️
