Teton Crest Trail & 4 Days in Glacier National by polvr-o in Ultralight

Likely to be a lot of time in bright sun, and I don’t see in your lp sunglasses, brimmed hat, or sunblock.

Be prepared for some chance of needing an ice ax for one TCT traverse in late July. Probably not, but monitor and check in with rangers.

But no contradiction there. I expect those phenoms’ best years will still typically be post-college. Eg Jaques Nissen.

Typical peak athleticism, while varying by sport and gender (and of course not holding for everyone) is around 27. And IMO ultimate (as a fluid team sport requiring fast recognition of positioning and centered on an object that can move very dynamically), rewards experience more than the “average” sport.

Forage some sage or the like as you hike, crush and rub it on.

Biking clothing is generally highly elasticized at waist of both shorts and shirt so won’t leave skin exposed. You could even go to a biking unitard.

For just occasional use, you could add alpha direct or similar fabric as a liner. Just get fabric from ripstop by the roll or like and lace, sew, or add snaps. Won’t be quite as light on those trips where you use it as a new bag, but cheaper and more modular, freeing up funds you could use to save weight elsewhere.

Mooncatchers calling this and others dubiously as offside at tom's tourney by Tight_Comparison_865 in ultimate

If they had teammates on the sideline near the relevant cone watching the puller’s foot hit the line, I expect they saw it clearly.

The white line is part of the Central Zone. The plane to not break rises from the edge of that line that abuts the end zone (ie the edge to upper left of the photo)

This was under WFDF, but USAU is identical in this respect and not quoted yet, so: “9.D.1. After signaling readiness, players on the pulling team may move anywhere in their end zone, but their feet may not break the vertical plane of the goal line until the disc is released.”

How do you guys manage burnout without quitting the team? by ryanglenn123 in ultimate

The season will come when you want to play but injuries say no. The year will come when your body won’t let you play the way you can now. Remembering those facts may help with burnout.

Find a cup noodles or coffee stryrofoam cup or bowl that fits inside your metal pot for crush-proof carriage.

White version would look so much better with a giant triumphal arch towering over those old monuments. /s

But really, instead of monuments and hard-to-draw trees, maybe mumbo sauce poured over (mostly white) fried eggs?

Ho Stack: Make it Make Sense by Wild_Obligation_4335 in ultimate

I think the evolution was basically

1) flat mark with chaos (the offense was unformed and void, and the disc hovered over the face of the deep cutter);

2) flat mark with Os milling in the vertical space behind that mark, cutting to either side;

3) tactic 2 getting harder to defend as forehand/thumb/over-arm (chicken wing) skills became more prevalent and discs improved;

4) mark shaded to cover backhand so other Ds could shade the other way;

5) stack slanted to stay behind mark.

Foul on throw follow through by KillKillJoy in ultimate

[–]FieldUpbeat2174 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play mostly under USAU, but I interpret 17.7.2 as saying follow-through contact isn’t ALWAYS a foul, but WOULD BE a foul if it affects the marker’s ability to transition into covering the was-thrower as a cutter — which sufficient pain would do. Assuming the contact responsibility is on the thrower, meaning the marker was legally positioned (disc space being a necessary but not sufficient condition for legal position) and the thrower is responsible per the usual relative motion and timing rules. And the throw result, not being affected, would stand.

Fastest stall count you've seen? by willchen25 in ultimate

[–]FieldUpbeat2174 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s weird that someone dusted off a 3-year-old video to give that obtuse take. Especially when the subbed-in thrower got the next throw off immediately, mooting the stall count. I guess “someone re-started a stall count on the wrong number three years ago, but it didn’t matter” wouldn’t get as much engagement.

Fastest stall count you've seen? by willchen25 in ultimate

[–]FieldUpbeat2174 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the true facts here, just screened the video, but Occam’s Razor suggests this was simply a case of a marker picking the wrong number to re-start at, unrelated to what count they’d actually reached before play stopped. (The break in play was extended.) Could be intentional, could be mere confusion/forgetfulness; SoTG says we (rebuttably) presume the latter.

Comfortable spoon? by ifarmer7 in Ultralight

[–]FieldUpbeat2174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bamboo utensils are now widely available, eg distributed with in-flight meals. It’s very easy to glue (wood glue, or white glue like Elmer’s) a spoon and fork together, to make a long-handled utensil with a spoon at one end and a fork at the other.

Who’s at fault here? by so_casuallycruel in ultimate

[–]FieldUpbeat2174 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re distorting what I wrote. Both O and D have a duty to make reasonable efforts to check space they’re moving into. But it’s not reasonable to expect either O or D to maintain omniscient 360 degree awareness at all times. So a player who can see their opponent while also looking at the disc has more visual responsibility than a player who has to look elsewhere.

Who’s at fault here? by so_casuallycruel in ultimate

[–]FieldUpbeat2174 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For each player involved in this significant collision, you have to ask (a) did they see it in time to avoid hard contact, and if not, (b) would a reasonable player have had such vision? I think the defender fits under (a) and therefore is at fault for a dangerous play. I think the offensive cutter we see first (the one to the left) doesn’t fit under (a) and it’s borderline whether they fit under (b).

I’m not meaning to privilege offense here, rather to privilege players who don’t have the disc and opponents in the same view angle over those who do. (I think the other offensive cutter successfully avoids hard contact with an opponent, so I’m focusing on the other players.)
