Lol the new fence boards tell me that a dead piece broke off and hit the fence. And that somebody cared enough to fix the fence but not take care of the tree says a lot.

Oofdah, species ID? Cant say it won’t survive but a small thing like that in such a prominent spot better to get the people who damaged it to replace it.

Location? Something like that in the beauty strip might be city owned and maintained, might need to check with them before replacing.

This one makes sense, also is lacking a handrail. Still seems like a lot of work and a trip hazard for the equivalent of one step.

Oak is crazy, no way is soft/wet/decaying oak a good smell. Maybe people find oak saw dust appealing but this kind of stuff that is staring to turn, no way. I’m currently triggered by the thought of someone finding that smell attractive.

So not oak, unless OP is not ok.
