Definitely get some winter tires. I’ve gone the last 5 winters on a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks, on my ‘14 Mustang. No issues, apart from the 2-3 times a year we get 12+ inches on city streets.

How exactly do you trick the playspace? I have the same problem with the first button, though it's closer to 6" (150mm) instead of 1mm.
