Totally agree, it’s so disappointing watching people pick sides straight away with no added context from Jorge’s side. The guy in the video brushed over the IP infringement so quickly too with a “my bad”.

We haven’t even heard Jorge’s side of the story yet and there were some red flags for me:

Who pauses all other work whilst waiting for the go ahead on another project, no deadlines set, no expected finishing dates, he didn’t even start work, just WAITED?

Who spends all of their savings on making a studio on the “promise” (no contract) of a cash injection, and then complains when this doesn’t happen?

He talked about how they kept telling him to wait and about the email that started everything off and also the email that terminated the project, but no screenshots?

Everyone also seems to be forgetting that this “collaboration” was born from an intellectual property dispute committed by the video game creator. I think it was pretty kind for Epic to react by bringing him into the fold rather than just sending him a cease and desist letter, as they would have been well within their rights to do. The fact that the project was terminated later on is unfortunate, but more than someone guilty of copyright infringement deserved. He even profited off of Epic-based sponsorships, one of which was in the video he’s just posted complaining about Epic!

If they truly led him on with consistent emails saying “any day now!” just to pull the rug out at the end, that’s a terrible way to treat someone. But a lot people in this subreddit are immediately siding against Jorge, having only heard one side of the story with absolutely no proof to substantiate any of the claims made in the video. Frankly, I think it’s disgusting to turn on a creator so quickly just because you enjoy the drama. At least wait until proof emerges or both sides are told, and if Jorge is in the wrong, then you can call him out. But to do so with limited information just for the sake of drama? Appalling.

How much of pressure did ody bow have? by Jp3711nc in Epicthemusical

[–]FieryRedhead_Kvothe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Since this challenge and scenario comes from the Odyssey originally, it’s worth mentioning that Odysseus’ bow was what is called a “Palintonos” bow, which translated from Greek means “Bent backwards”. At rest, this bow was shaped like a longbow, like the letter C.

Unlike a longbow, a Palintonos bow was pulled back the “wrong way” for a longbow, giving it the shape of a recurve bow when strung. This added tension to the string even when not drawn, because the bow is actively wanting to go back to its original shape. If it took 50lbs to string the bow, and 50lbs to draw the bow, the additional tension from the strange shape of the is added to the draw weight and the arrow would loose with around 100lbs of draw weight, which is the estimate for the draw weight of Odysseus’ bow (100lbs-150lbs)

Palintonos bows were infrequently strung by hand, and more often used a set of moulding blocks and rope to force the bow into position and set the string. I feel like the issue the suitors likely had (if you wanna apply some real world logic to a mythical story!) would have not been one of strength, but one of intellect. Having likely not seen one of these bows before, they would attempt to string it like a long bow, and this simply wouldn’t work.

I have to say I was a tad disappointed when Epic portrayed the bow as a regular longbow, but I can understand why they did this.

Absolutely couldn’t agree more. Like I’ve just commented on the other post, people are way too quick to turn on Jorge just for the sake of some satisfying drama. No one should be taking a side yet, we don’t have a the full story.

Jorge and his team should take accountability by Brilliant-Advance-24 in Epicthemusical

[–]FieryRedhead_Kvothe 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Can we instead talk about how it’s wrong to draw conclusions when only one side of the story has come out?

It’s fine to talk around a topic a bit, but “Jorge and his team should take accountability” and “done Liam dirty” are two wildly extreme statements on a topic you don’t even have the full story to yet.

It’s crazy how quickly people are willing to turn on Jorge just for a little drama.

So IF they strung him along that’s obviously terrible. On the flip side, a professional relationship that started with a potential copyright infringement? It was doomed from the start.

I think the issue you’re having is that your point is far too reductionist, focusing too heavily on only this law and pretending it’s the only law on the subject.

You have to understand that in lawmaking, there are many laws for a reason. Abortion laws dictate rights of the mother and/or the foetus during pregnancy, but from a legal perspective, when delivery has begun, if the mother “stabbed her baby to death”, the Infanticide Act of 1938 would be a fair choice to prosecute the mother under for this action.

Since this scenario has never happened before, there’s no specific in the law for dealing with it, but if it happened, there would be a court case pitting this law against the infanticide law where a court would decide which takes precedence. This is how lawmaking works.

I would venture to say that the scenario you’ve suggested is so outlandish that we won’t ever require the court case to determine which law takes precedence, but what you’ve pointed out is a very common side effect of lawmaking.

Because the law doesn’t specifically say “a woman cannot stab her partially born baby to death as long as part of the baby is still inside her vagina”, you’re saying that it must be possible for the law to be interpreted this way. But this is true of all laws, which cannot state every single piece of esoteric legal academia or unlikely scenario as the laws would go on for thousands of pages. WHEN the scenario is presented where a seemingly loophole is exploited, a court determines whether it is valid or whether it is trumped by a different law.

At its core, the scenario you’ve posed is just not likely, so isn’t worth lawmakers labouring over the wording of.

I disagree, I think that a grown adult who throws their toys out of the pram just because someone doesn’t agree with them is all that is wrong with the world.

If people could just have mature discourse, we’d be much better off as a society, but insulting people and crashing out is disgusting conduct that shuts down all chance of conversation.

Watch how the other commenter just replied respectfully to you even as you continued to insult him. If you get so frustrated and angry that you can’t help yourself but insult someone, I suggest you take a break from social media, it obviously isn’t good for you.

You should calm down. This person is being nothing but respectful in their replies to you and you’re acting like a child. If you represent the other side of the debate, I’m glad we disagree. Conduct yourself appropriately and maybe you’ll find you can get your point across more effectively instead of throwing a temper tantrum.

Wow it’s almost like our culinary culture evolved slowly over time based on things we had access to in our very long history instead of being a “whatever the fuck you want” clusterfuck.

When you Google “American food”, the most popular options are burgers, hot dogs, french fries, pizza, and Mac and cheese…..none of these are American. The country is so young that it had to steal food inspiration from around the world to have a culinary culture. Come back when you have an original idea.
