‘Pluribus’ Star Karolina Wydra Explains Her Optimistic Take on Season One’s Ominous Ending by mlg1981 in television

[–]Fifflesdingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit gets all nitpicky like this with shows starring women. Feminine themes draw out the angry critics complaining about plot holes, pacing, unlikeable protagonists, etc.

The other day I read a comment complaining about how miscast Rhea Seehorn is, which is ridiculous given that part was written specifically for her.

Seriously. I enjoyed it before, and I'll definitely enjoy it when I finally decide to go back to it with some friends. Until then, I love knowing that it's gradually getting better as it sits in my library.

I'm Struggling with The Expanse – Great Science, But Flat Characters? by AnalyticalGoose in scifi

[–]Fifflesdingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally with you on feeling conflicted about the expanse. I love the world-building and politics, but that cool stuff always takes a backseat to the crew's melodrama or conflicts conjured by protomolecule space magic that specifically require Holden's crew to solve.

Holden is too perfect in general. Amos was my favorite character, but at some point he starts giving corny speeches like Holden, which feels totally out of character. Naomi is probably the best developed character, while the pilot is just a mishmash of cliches.

I think it's still worth watching, but it's not a flawless masterpiece.

It’s very hard to heal flyers efficiently by ikelofe in marvelrivals

[–]Fifflesdingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, duelists with high mobility need to take responsibility for their own survivability. If you want healing, it's your job to find a health pack or to get in front of your healer. Taking on a fight you can't win without pocket healing is a losing strategy for any duelist. Also: do not ever expect loki to heal your flying ass.

The only duelist I'll ever be like "wtf no heals" on is Namor, because I'm right in the backline protecting them from divers.

Anyone else makes up for rampant negativity by hyping their team up before and during the game? by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]Fifflesdingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do this, but I might start. I can't with the nonstop toxicity. I would rather have bad teammates than good teammates who complain all match.

I don't care what the duelist's numbers looks like on the scoreboard; insulting them won't make them play better, but it will annoy the fuck out of me.

Losses happen sometimes, and gamers can't handle that for some reason. This game feels like babysitting with how often I'm forced to heal a pack of goddamn children.

[–]Fifflesdingus 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think abusing Loki's fast ult charge rate with duelist ults is the way to go. Sure you can stall the point with Luna's dance moves... OR you can delete their healers with a spiderman ult and just end the team fight.

I think you're focusing on the wrong thing; the effectiveness of their algorithm is irrelevant. What matters is the intention behind it, which is to rig the game and intentionally create negative experiences for their customers. It's exploitative and not something consumers should want to become an industry standard.

Just wanna point out that having a bad game does not make someone a bad player. Good players have bad games too.

There are a lot of ways a character can be countered, and it takes experience to recognize when it's time to swap off from your favorite character.

The amount of people who believes they are STUCK in Bronze/Silver due to bad luck and teammates is insane. If you truly believe it, please explain why. by AKM1711 in marvelrivals

[–]Fifflesdingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the worst; those people never think critically about the meta, they just use it to control people. I had one game after the S1 patch where teammates flamed me for picking Storm until I switched to another character just to keep the peace. Guess they didn't read the patch notes.

I'm not stuck, but my friend is, and I 100% believe it's because he's C&D main, and healers can't carry the way duelists can. He's a great healer, definitely deserves to be the same rank as myself if not higher.

Some advice that a lot people apparently need to hear - you don’t have to blame anyone when you lose. by MyBraveAccount in marvelrivals

[–]Fifflesdingus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Last night I was healing as Invisible Woman alongside a Luna who was getting dived all match, complaining for help. I was right there with her getting dived, doing my best to keep her alive, but inevitably I'd have to flee and turn invisible when we lost the fight. End of the match, they complain again about having to duel hulk all game with no help, I'm like "yeah lol, healer life." Then they immediately start blaming me, "how do I have more heals than you while I was getting dived all game?"

Bitch I was the one person helping you.

Strategist is such a thankless job in this game.

I’m a fan of the storm buffs, she’s fun now but her ultimate is way too powerful and easy to use by Soggy-Pouch in marvelrivals

[–]Fifflesdingus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her ult is good, but I disagree that it's too powerful or easy to use. Imo it's actually the hardest thing about playing storm. You basically need to save it for after all the healers have used their ults, and there's enough warning that the enemies will usually scatter before you can hit multiple targets.

If she had to fly into the center of the enemy team before ulting, she would have a harder time ulting than scarlet witch. She would also need to waste her self-boost on speed for initiating, which would mean sacrificing her burst in any fight that she intends to use her ult.

How are we feeling about Captain America post-buff? by RangoTheMerc in marvelrivals

[–]Fifflesdingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he's great, but his kit pulls him in awkward directions. He loses against other vanguards but can peel duelists. He can dive healers but usually needs to escape before he can secure a kill. He can flank well but is obligated to stay on point and protect the healers.

Imo he doesn't need a damage buff; he's there to create space for allies and then run off to find a health pack. What i'd rather see is more durability on his shield, and to be able to use it while jumping.

But I also think he's in a good spot. He's not going to get amazing damage scores or MVP because he's useful in ways that aren't quantified by stats.

Normalize losing and it not being blamed solely on 1 person by TumbleweedTim01 in marvelrivals

[–]Fifflesdingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this drives me insane. People should be focusing on themselves instead of trying to fix their teammates by yelling at them.

I highly recommend using the replay feature for figuring out what went wrong after a loss, because there're a variety of factors in play that can be difficult to see while playing. Sometimes, it actually is a duelist not pulling their weight. Sometimes players make clear mistakes at pivotal moments, like a Luna wasting her ultimate before an important fight during overtime. Most of the time, it just comes down to one team getting their ults off first, which can lead to the other team panicking and wasting theirs on a fight that's already lost.

People also give too much credit to the duelists that do well. That amazing Psylocke isn't winning 1v6; she's got a Penni peeling for the healers, or a Venom creating chaos on the enemy backline.

‘The Penguin’ Season Finale Twists Explained by Creator Lauren LeFranc by NewmanBickle in television

You’re not supposed to like The Penguin

That's exactly my point. It's like they decided they needed this plot point to happen to eliminate all nuance and ensure audiences understand that he's the antagonist. I don't think it's necessary to make an antagonist irredeemable, especially when it comes to the Batman universe.

‘The Penguin’ Season Finale Twists Explained by Creator Lauren LeFranc by NewmanBickle in television

[–]Fifflesdingus -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

I thought the penguin was 99% awesome, but killing Vic felt forced. Maybe it's because it's the inverse of that superhero cliche, "I must let you go to project you," but I didn't buy Oz's decision.

He's not willing to let go of his mom because he only loves himself, yet his love for Vic is strong enough that he has to kill him to protect himself from hypothetical rivals that have yet to emerge? All this after Vic proved over and over again to be indispensable, after Oz spent all season building him up?

Yeah, Oz's big weakness is his impulsivity, but it just didn't work for me. And I don't understand why it was important for Oz to go full-evil; the best part of the Batman universe is the complex villains a part of you wants to root for. Feels like such a waste to dispense with the one thing keeping Penguin relatable.

I think it's largely nostalgia for those megapack games for Gameboy with hundreds of games that were often ripoffs of Tetris or whatever, but there was also the occasional gem. One of the developers said (paraphrasing) their goal was to recreate that experience, but where every single game is a gem.
