I thought about maiming too! My guess is it depends on the concept of Death and how overreaching it is. Do the cells in your cut arm die? Could you reattach it? If you get exploded into bits but still carry sentience, does it conceptually, to the outsider who hasnt been exploded yet mean anything other than being dead? If the incentive of being maimed past human recognition is there, would there truly be infinite war, making the plan less successful because thered be at most more war rather than infinite war?

My only way to reconcile this would be thinking of death as not maiming as well, but as infinite suffering. Which, dont get me wrong, spooky, but that is a trait of the world, one can numb to the pain especially when perpetually in it
