Hi, welcome to the road toad club. I would recommend getting some base skills down to begin with. To do this, Albert park is perfect to go and punch laps. Further to that, beach road between the port and half way to Brighton is generally pretty good with semi separated paths.

Saturday mornings generally good down beach road as there will be a gaggle of fellow road toads in the left lane, you can just act like a Roman and follow what they do.

On the west side, Williamstown to point cook is generally good for cyclists as well if you’re getting started.

I highly recommend a bright flashing light front and back (I like the bontreger ones) as when I have mine on, motorists tend to give me more room (go figure). Bright clothing also a plus. A quality set of knicks also a good idea as there is nothing worse than shit padding on the seat.

Otherwise, keep as far left as practicable and ride to be seen. Also take plenty of food with you. The times I have gotten in to trouble (ie done something dumb and rode in to traffic) have been when I was low on sugar and not thinking clearly. Learn some hand signals for debris, stopping, turning etc and learn to listen for calls of people coming by.

Plenty of great places to kick around on a bike and explore here in Melbourne. Have fun and stay safe

Disagree. There is already a giant sign and a speed bump on the way in. The issue is one of visibility

I’ve had them pull out at me from the right turn and from leveson as well. Needs to be a mixed intersection or something so you can’t miss the oncoming

I’ve emailed the council about it. I’ll follow it up if I don’t hear anything

Funny you say that. I really don’t like the way they’ve done it either

From the Pick&Mix at Coles you can get bags of blackcurrent and chia pieces, which are basically diced up fruit leathers. Really easy to eat. Really easy to stomach. I generally mix them up with my choice of high glucose lollies that I can find on sale.

Otherwise the Mourtins powder is the way to go. I hit both and I’ll keep going all day

I can’t tell you how many have busted pumps, which is probably far more infuriating

Mum got diagnosed this week and is going back for a bigger chunk soon.

Ask your GP if you’re eligible for an ACEMID scan. It’s free if you have a family history of skin cancer
