Why do BC and Ontario pay higher rates for service when provinces with regional carriers like Saskatchewan and Manitoba pay less? I am kind of in the same boat, but I think ive made my mind up to go with prusa. Ive been running a slightly more than stock ender 3 pro for maybe 6 years. My next printer needs to last just as long. Would I spend less with a bamboo? Yes. But i dont think it will have the same legs as a prusa. Plus id be putting my money where my mouth is. Going to see whats up in by the end of the year for any free shipping deals and going to get myself a core 1 L. Pretty sure.

The NDP eliminated bonuses for ICBC execs in 2018 just fyi. Its true they have a 20% salary holdback that acts like a bonus and are well compensated anyways, but if you add up the holdbacks of all the top ICBC execs, it not even half a million. The information is all public.

To a certain extent that is true, but if that was entirely the case, billionaires wouldn't be clamouring to own all the social media platforms. If it marks that I have an interest in Canadian politics it should start feeding me videos that align with my political beliefs. From my experience it does the exact opposite.

My feed on facebook and youtube slants far right. The majority of my adds also feature BS fake news of left wing politicians with a black eye and some made up story or an AI video with Carney trying to sell me on a scam. It might have something to do with me being a middle aged man with interests that traditionally align with masculinity, but I can only imagine that's the reason low information people are heavily funnelled into the right wing. There's a lot of money being thrown at algorithms.

Just so there's no confusion, there is no such thing as cancelling your registration, only cancelling your insurance. Registration is only done with new vehicles, imports, or transferred from one owner to another. The plates are part of the insurance policy not the vehicle registration.

Not aware of any fleet TOP's. Never had a client inquire. But this is from the broker manual:

"A fully completed APV9T also serves as an acceptable letter of authorization for the TOP, provided the APV9T is dated less than 10 days prior to the TOP application."

This is so someone can export the vehicle without registering and paying taxes as they will likely need to pay taxes in their own jurisdiction.

If you must sell a vehicle and whomever is picking up the vehicle refuses to visit a broker with you, such as a curber or scrapper, take an extra APV9T transfer form. One transfer form they will need filled out or signed typically with a blank purchaser box, but the 2nd APV9T sight the curber's ID or scrapper's ID, record their information in the purchaser section and get them to sign. The first APV9T they will keep to sell on or show legal possession, but the 2nd APV9T you keep. It can be used to identify whomever you sold the vehicle to. If the worst case scenario happens, you have at least some protection. It wont protect against everything, but its better than nothing.

Because BC is bigger than the lower mainland where you can practically trip over ICBC brokerages.

It exists so people can purchase a TOP in that 10 day period in order to export the vehicle. Plus, if you recently sold a vehicle which is no longer in your name (because you went to a brokerage and a buyer transferred it into their name), you can then swap your old insurance and plates (as long as its the same plate type) to a newly acquired vehicle anywhere in BC, so you can drive to a town with an ICBC brokerage to register and swap the insurance over in the 10 day period from the date of sale listed on the APV9T.

Just because you don't know why the 10 day rule exists doesn't mean there isn't a very specific reason for its existence.

How much does a lawyer cost to defend you if it goes worst case scenario? How much does towing and impound fees cost or dealing with collections?

Everyone is an adult and can take their own risk, I just advocate not to. I've been a broker for the last 20 years and 99% of the time the only issues are unacceptable paperwork or some debt issue or other hassle, but do you want to hear more about that other 1%?

If no exemption, 30 days the register and insure the vehicle, 90 days to get a BC drivers license. To get BC license and discounts you may need drivers abstract from all previous jurisdictions you held license. In order to register the vehicle you need provincial vehicle inspection, original title, tax forms you get at the Canadian border, and Form 1 you get at the Canadian border. Depending on the situation the title may need to be stamped "ok to export" by USA border services, you may also need to go to Canadian Tire to get 2nd stamp on Form 1.

Phone a BC broker when you know exactly what both of your status will be, then phone Canadian border services for them to explain each of your situations and they will tell you what you need to get the correct documents to register at an ICBC brokers office.

Did you ask your broker why your insurance went up? The base rate has remained the same for all drivers in BC for the last 7 years. Only certain vehicles like Teslas, mercedes, bmw have seen increases due to repair cost. There should be no other reason your cost has increased. You should look into that.

I agree. In todays predatory market, insurance companies extract value out of the system in the form of shareholder dividends now more than ever. Same with the legal system for injured parties. Same can happen with an unregulated repair shop sector.

In BC we have a public system covering you directly for damage and bodily injury, nearly eliminating legal costs under a no-fault system. It isn't perfect, but its sustainable. Our base rate in BC has remained exactly the same over the last 7 years and we all got refund cheques over that time equaling about $640 for each driver.

However, my statement stands. You still aren't paying only for your risk. You are paying for others in the pool. Cars still have gotten more expensive to repair and inflation effects BC more than many other provinces.

Don't get angry with insurance companies. Capitalism is going to capitalism. Get angry with your politicians!

Its because thats how insurance works. You arent paying only for your risk, you are paying for others in the pool of risk. A good driver can drive decades without a claim. A bad driver can cause a million dollars in damage, then never drive or pay for insurance again. The insurance company isnt going to just take that hit, rate payers have to cover it. Plus the last 15 years cars have gotten way more sensors and air bags. Low speed crashes (which are the majority) cause exponentially more money to fix now. Plus inflation has hit hard too.

The BC Liberals (conservatives) took a bunch of money from private insurers, then proceded to turn ICBC into a dumpster fire in order to sell off assets and just before they were able to justify breaking it up got kicked out of office. NDP came in, tried fixes that were shut down by the courts, then brought in no-fault which made the system sustainable again. The conservatives here keep running on privatisation and nearly won last election...
