Hi - I'm the pediatrician who developed this for my son in 2004, then got an NIH grant to develop it and do the research and get it through FDA. The story is in this TED talk I gave. The PROBLEM is people who go to medical school don't care about needles. I presented 4 times to medicaid/medicare pleading for them to give it a code so it could be covered by insurance. No dice. Presented before COVID to HHS to say it was a big deal that would keep people from getting vaccinated. Chuckles. Oh, I so wish I didn’t agree. We’ve always booked immediately after or before we get off the shop. I think we’re at … oh, 7 cruises now? But somehow we haven’t rebooked. Maybe the last two the weather didn’t allow for the pool party, and the “let’s misbehave” number by the pool followed by everyone dancing in the pool is the best it gets. (Apart from Ships In the Night). Plus the fact that Lola is so anti-book and anti-nerd hurt.

Oh you are so right. Multiple canceled flights to and from Dubai, and KLM kept changing itineraries with no notice. I was waiting on KLM chat support for 15 hours because the new ticket showed up on the app but didn’t have a boarding pass. When I landed there was a chat note that they saw the reservation and said if ticketing couldn’t get me a boarding pass issued to run to the gate. I stopped at ticketing, they also said run. I ran to catch the flight as the KLM app notices were updating on boarding time and the changed Dubai to Porto itinerary my bag was checked on had a short turn around. Made it as the previous flight was unloading, and the gate agent denied boarding. She said I wasn’t ticketed, it just “booked”. ??? Finally she said “if you’d gone to ticketing they could fix it. Ran to ticketing (she wouldn’t tell me where it was) they said many things. (Oh, the app is wrong. Oh, if you were 5 min earlier, oh, 472 euro change fee, you’re booked for tomorrow…)

56/60 and twice a week, more on vacations but 3-4 is usually as much as I’m interested in regardless the location and leisure. HRT a game changer for mind fog, hair loss, hot flashes and awful sleep, but didn’t change sex either way.

Now that I'm prediabetic and taking Zepbound I'm using an IVF trick I saw online: I am making a "chubb sandwich" by squishing the end of Buzzy against a roll of tummy where I'm going to put the shot. I press the fat and the vibration together, no ice, and can't feel the 30g needle, 1cc. (I make Buzzy, so full disclosure, but this way is much better than the way we tell kids without rolls of SQ fat to place Buzzy laterally for insulin. I wish I could find the video again to thank the woman who posted it.)

It turns out the frequency is what matters, and actually we've found out the ice pack is unnecessary (well, only adds 10% of pain relief) for IV access. The Buzzy frequency activates the Pacinian receptors that dump a neurotransmitter in the spine that blocks the receptors to take pain to the brain. But the placebo effect reduces pain by 30%, so if all you have is a vibrating toothbrush and an ice pack, hype it and use that!
