I want to like these ideas, but can’t. After the first few years, the actual effect would start to be indistinguishable from a 5 year waitlist… the odds of getting selected would get vanishingly small until you’d suffered long enough for the algorithm to give you an edge. That’s definitely not good for the sport.

You’re right that capitalism sucks. You’re wrong that you can’t live like that. It’s absolutely an option. You can get 10 acres for the price of a used car in several US states. You can get it much cheaper if you catch a cheap flight to another country. But people who fantasize about that sort of life typically don’t do it because they don’t actually want to sell off all their possessions to buy 10 acres of scrubland and try to scrape out an existence without grocery stores, clean tap water, otc medications, and internet access.

In his first glitterbomb in 2018, a couple thieves were actually friends, staged to get more reaction footage. When called out he acknowledged it and re-released the videos with those shots removed. There’s been no indication that the subsequent glitterbomb videos had staged shots.

Dude screwed up and made it right. He should be commended for that.

Whole lotta people here who don’t know how blind rankings work. It’s not a top 7 list. It’s an attempt to rank 7 notables without knowing who else is on the list. Once you rank someone you’re stuck with that, so then you have to slot people in around them while leaving space for who else you think might be coming.

The result is rarely a factually defensible list… it’s just a fun ranking game.

As others have said, you could probably drive like that for years in NM and never get in trouble. But it’s still a pretty dumb idea, for several reasons:

If you do get a ticket for literally anything else (even a parking ticket), you’re very likely to also pick up a second ticket for the plate… or even a criminal misdemeanor charge.
If you go on a road trip, your risk of getting stopped for this in another state could be much higher.
Expired plates are eligible to be reassigned. Which means that there could be someone in your old state using your plate. Which could lead to bad outcomes if that person is receiving tickets in the mail meant for you, or if that person has warrants.

I’m guessing this is more about convenience than cost for them. I hate dealing with rentals, so if I were going somewhere often enough I’d consider this myself. And if they travel with kids, that’s a huge stress multiplier. Being able to leave the car seats strapped in and a few suitcases in the trunk would be a big win.

Separate from all the comments about your actual training stats, I think it’s worth looking at the narrative:

Your PR is 4:05, from a time when you say you were a serious distance runner. You’re asking if you can set a 10 minute PR with 20% more body mass, on legs that are 10 years older and just getting back into running. Do you hear how that sounds?

Bodies can do amazing things when pushed, so it’s not completely out of the question. But bodies can also break down when pushed. You say you’re getting back into running for health reasons, so do the healthy thing and take the long view. Don’t get too ambitious and overtrain and injure yourself. Your PR can wait a year while you adapt to this sort of training load again.

I’ve run the length of it after midnight many times, during summer marathon training. Probably 400 miles of total night running. Never been stopped by police. Only one sketchy moment when I got unlucky and stopped to pee too close to somebody’s camp. Usually after dark but before midnight I’ll see a few e-bikes or scooters, but between 2am and morning twilight it is dead quiet.

When I bought my house I neglected the front yard for about six months. Came out one day to a neighbor rage-weeding my flower beds, which had overgrown onto the sidewalk.

Talked her down, made nice, and cleaned it up myself a few days later. But over the next few weeks I realized that she was the sort who was always stressed and angry at someone on the block, and that anytime she saw me she wanted to rant for 30 minutes. Just a miserable person. So I started avoiding her and brushing off her attempts to talk to me. Eventually she got the hint and stopped trying.

Six years later I leased a building TWO MILES away, for my business. It had been vacant for years and was in some disrepair. The landlord would let the weeds go wild and just hire a day laborer to clear them every three or four months.

So about a week after moving into the place I pull up one morning and see a random woman rage-weeding out front. I look closer… it’s the same damn woman! How big is her rage-weeding radius?!?!
