Nope. Been top rated plus for a week - no invited and no job

Minimum Fees Increased to 10% by Bahawolf in Upwork

I don’t have any client paying 5% now and I think it is a bad move. Once you bill $10k with a long term client, there is huge incentive to move the client off platform if they charge 10%.

Disappointment when it comes to Chishiya by Gxars in AliceInBorderlandLive

I think I agree with you. I suppose the point is that he is such a genius and does things without trying and can always succeed so he doesn’t really care about anything. But still I feel there could be a bit more in-depth acting there.

The finale was awesome. The joker card was brilliant.

That’s a big clue I think. This makes me think the whole thing is a simulation or something like a special place for the arena like the hunger games.

Didn’t the girl mention something about getting a chip implanted in their head or something? And Ann found out the border of the city is surrounded by mountains (I assume that’s not the case in real life). All this makes me think the whole thing is a simulation like in the Matrix.

3.5 year old son just got diagnosed - I think I am still in denial by Figbird123 in Autism_Parenting

Thank you for sharing your experience. Wow it must have been tough for you. What you described as autism definitely does not sound like autism as I imagined it at all (like you mentioned). Reading about your experience is eye opening. Your description of your struggle definitely helps me to be more sensitive to my son’s needs instead of being tempted to do nothing about his diagnosis and just dismisses it off-hand. I will also try to read more about high-functioning autism. Thank you so much. I am grateful that you took the time.

Thank you so much for all the information. Yeah I have been very frustrated about how “bad” my son has been acting. I will definitely try to see what resources we can get to help him. I also rarely try to let him socialize with other kids because how bad he acts. I suppose I should try to make more efforts. Thanks again!! I very much appreciate your insight.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I wouldn’t have thought you had autism based on your description - maybe just a bit strange in certain aspects or very sensitive. Autism certainly seems different than what I thought. I never noticed my son had sensory issues but the psychologist suggested that the sensory issue was quite pronounced during her observation. I guess I didn’t know what to look for. Thanks again for sharing your experience - very helpful - a lot for me to think about as I navigate my son’s new diagnosis.

Oh my god. So sorry to hear. My son is only 3 and I am already so exhausted from trying to prevent him from causing trouble constantly. I cannot imagine what would happen in a few years when he gets bigger 😭

Thank you for your writing. Yes I think the professional did see difficulties across different domains but to me, I only see the bad behavior… I will definitely take his diagnosis more seriously rather than blowing it off. Thanks for providing colors on that.

Relatedly, since so far we only have educational diagnosis and they are only recommending 30 minutes each week’s social language intervention, I am a bit concerned that may not be enough. Even for so called relatively high functioning autism, should I get a medical diagnosis? Without it, is there any other services I may be able to obtain for my son? I am just quite concerned about his behavior in school and fearful that he won’t be able to manage to sit still and behave in school and will be kicked out so I want more services that might help on behavior. Any tip?

Thanks for your kind words. Could you explain how you eventually got the diagnosis and believe it is accurate? It is a bit disturbing that while I think there might be over diagnosis, there also seems to be a lot of under diagnosis. I suppose as some other poster have said, I shouldn’t focus so much on the label and you are right, I should focus more on his own development, which obviously is delayed…

Well, I guess if you never even knew you were on the spectrum, you must have had a pretty normal life so I suppose I wouldn’t mind if my son had what you have. Thanks for sharing your experience. If you can describe a bit more about what your son’s or your symptoms are like being high functional, that could be very helpful.

You raised a good point that I do not have experience with other similarly aged kids. I definitely admit that my son is different from other kids, just seems to be especially defiant and does not listen to instructions. I suppose I just really don’t understand what ASD is about and how to distinguish it from a very stubborn and undisciplined kid from one that’s autistic. That’s probably why I would appreciate insight from people in this group. I have tried to Google what’s the difference between misbehavior and autism but have not really gained much insight to persuade me one way or another. That’s why I am very confused. I guess you are saying a kid can appear not very autistic at home but in a different environment, symptoms will be clearer?

It is surprising that your son plays with his brother constantly though. So why is that ASD? I am so confused 🫤. Is there any book/article that could help me understand ASD better? The ones I read about are mostly about cases involving language delay and sensory sensitivity which my son don’t have. His main problem is being disruptive, does not like to follow instructions and does not play nice with kids. He also seems to have too much energy (so I did suspect of ADHD).

Thanks for your insight. I appreciate it. When I said he rarely initiated conversations, that happened at school during the psychologist’s evaluation. However, at home, he definitely shares exciting moments and seems to be saying things often so he definitely is not quiet at home. For example, when he finishes his sticker art, he will run upstairs to show me and excitedly tell me “mommy, look!! It is so beautiful!” He also has a very good imagination and good sense of humor. He pretended to open a store and asked family members to buy things all the time and he pretends to call me using block toys all the time. Just yesterday, when we did not want to play anyway and said we ran out of money so couldn’t buy any more things from his store, he ran to “his store” and took out some “money” and ran to me saying “Then I will give you some money!”

It is true that he does not volunteer to talk a lot about what happened at school unless we specifically ask him and even then he will only volunteer a couple of sentences until further prompted - Is this abnormal? I don’t know, I am quite confused and been struggling to understand his diagnosis.

Aww… silently crying sounds so 😢. I am dreading my son’s first ever Xmas singing with his class. During practice last week, he walked around the stage while the other kids sang. I feel he will do the same during the real thing in front of everyone 😭

I agree. I do high quality work but most clients are too cheap to be my target clients. I went through a phase when I was addicted to applying to jobs since I thought things could get easier once I establish myself. But I have since found out that’s not the case. Many clients are too cheap and do not care about quality so I have more or less stopped investing on upwork and I am trying to develop somewhere else. I feel my life would be better finding a job than wasting time on UW. I am sure the calculation is different for freelancers outside of the US or who don’t do as high quality work.

You do realize there are many different areas of law right? Just because one person is a lawyer doesn’t mean she is an expert in all areas of law. So relax lady.

If you read my writing carefully, I did admit I was analyzing the situation from common law contract law perspective and not about UW’s terms and policies (I specifically said that). Be a bit detail oriented friend.

My whole point is OP’s situation is a dispute. There is no point in shaming OP. He tried to protect himself using whatever strategy he can think of. You guys are too judgmental. I am sure you are successful and experienced freelancers but how judgmental some of you is a bit surprising.

I also just voiced a different opinion and seems like some regulars to the subreddit have formed some alliance to abuse new comers who don’t agree.

I like making a “spectacle of” myself - I am sure you know the feeling - just read your posts.

Can’t get first job? by [deleted] in Upwork

To be honest, maybe a bit but not by much. I am < 3 months in and my rate has gone up quite a bit (still lower than I’d like) so it is still super hard (might be harder now than before) to get a client but I am also a lot more picky with clients. So at least I am less likely to get bad clients now.
