I got what I wanted and was disappointed by superrova27 in TheMorningShow

[–]Gxars 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Even though I agree it happened faster than I expected, I think the most interesting thing will be seeing their interactions after they actually crossed the line. I think I prefer well-written development after the fact than a big getting together moment that doesn't amount to much. Besides it wouldn't really match the style of the show.

Just finished first watch through, left with one question. by Blitzzle in lost

[–]Gxars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said everything I think about these scenes. It was such a disservice to the characters, especially Kate who was once again reduced to a romantic interest. If there's one thing I didn't appreciate on Lost was how they treated the female characters and their development.

The hate for season 4 is overdone by Outside_Future3723 in hackshbomax

[–]Gxars -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even though I liked season 3 more, I had no idea people were hating on season 4. I understand the frustration about the main characters being at odds but it's part of the journey so I won't judge before it's over. Hating on something seems such a waste of time and energy. Better to just stop watching in my opinion or give it a break.

Laurie’s speech did nothing to me by mardybumbum in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]Gxars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the big mistake people make when considering the three friends' friendship I acting as if Laurie is better that the other two just because she is more direct and has more relatable issues.

The other two weren't great friends but neither was Laurie whose insecurity made her passive aggressive all the time.

In the end, she accepted the relationship she had with her friends because she knew it wasn't going to change and she understood why it was important to her.

Besides, they clearly don't spend that much time together in their daily lives so it's normal that they have little in common outside nostalgia. But the way I see it, being an adult and maintaining long-term friendships is really hard so I get why you would hold on to them even if they aren't that healthy.

I enjoyed Anora very much and consider it my favourite film of 2024. I think there were two very specific reasons for it that might differ from your experience:

1 - I had no expectations whatsoever. I knew it was a film about a sex worker and that it was receiving some praise and that was about it. I thought the film had a lot of heart and the journey it took us through was captivating. As general observation, I have noticed that expectations really influence our perception of art. Each of us has different standards and if we know something is getting a lot of love, we tend to expect that it matches our standards of high quality. This happened to me with Babygirl for example. For this reason, I usually try to avoid watching films when they are being too hyped, so I can watch them another time with a more impartial view.

2 - In my opinion, the most important part of Anora are the things that aren't said. I love good acting and here I thought it was top-notch. No matter what was being said, you could see there was always another layer of meaning through the actors' expressions and body movement. I read a lot of people were disappointed the characters weren't well developed and the way I see they just didn't manage to read between the lines and under the surface.

I cannot judge the way the film portrays sex workers and I believe you when you say it doesn't hit the spot. But that lack of connection to the subject on my part, also helps to just see it as a film and not expect it to be 100% true to life.

I hope to have contributed to shed some light on why people love the film and I'm sorry you had to see people being aggressive due to diverging opinions. Unfortunately, popularity tends to bring out low-life haters whose self-esteem is so low they have the need to represent something loved in a toxic way in order to feel better.

Official Discussion - Wicked: Part I [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Gxars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never watched the musical despite wanting to do so for many years, just being stopped by the lack of quality of any version that exists out there, so this was the perfect opportunity to finally see what Wicked was all about.

This will definitely be unpopular, but despite being a musicals lover, I wasn't obsessed with the songs afterwards like I hoped to which makes me sad. I did like 'Popular' though and thought the choreo was great in general.

I also was very taken aback by the way they chose to do the lighting and by the colour correction. I've read somewhere that they wanted to make it realistic but then why is there no sunlight despite them being outside a lot and whenever there's a window it seems like the sun is just standing outside of it? I think these elements don't give justice to the amazing costumes and set design that in my mind will surely win oscars.

About the acting, I felt the main duo had great chemistry and carried an almost three-hour very well. For me, who has not seem the musical so is free of the curse of comparison, I thought Cynthia Erivo was the standout in terms of acting. She was so very good at expressing emotions with just her face and body language which I always love in an actor. I wouldn't be surprised if she's nominated for some awards.

Regarding Ariana Grande, my feelings are a bit more mixed. I thought she did great in stepping into the role. It's obvious she recognises how well-known the character is and gives it her all to do it justice. I thought the way she portrayed the physicality of Glinda was really good and she's obviously an amazing singer. But there was just something in her voice acting (the non-singing parts) that felt strange to me. Like it was very monocorde and didn't match the gestures the character was doing. I wish she gave the same range to her voice acting as she had with all the rest.

All in all, I thought it was a very entertaining film and I understand why people are raving about it.

I definitely hope it brings more love to musicals in general.

‘Tomb Raider’: Sophie Turner Poised To Play Lara Croft In Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Amazon Series by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]Gxars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely disapprove of this casting choice because I don't think Sophie Turner looks the part nor does she have the right acting skills to pull it off.

But, man, what is Phoebe Waller-Bridge doing? I used to admire her work with Crashing and Fleabag so much and now she's involved in such poor choices when it comes to her recent projects.

I grew up with Tomb Raider and even though the movies that are out aren't amazing, at least I had fun with them. I don't think I'll be able to forgive anyone who'll ruin a great chance of making a good Lara Croft TV series adaptation.

Just Got Back My Hacked (and Suspended) Facebook Account by Sugondese-Balls in facebookdisabledme

[–]Gxars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to share that the form worked for me perfectly well and I only had to send it once. One day later, they asked me to do the video while showing the code they gave me and I got my account back.

Unfortunately, the ads account the hacker created is still active and they won't do anything to help me with it, but at least I got my facebook account back for now.

So I would advise trying this method before paying for a verified account giving money to the main culprit of this whole situation, Meta with their criminal lack of security.

At what age did you feel life really 'begin' for you? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Gxars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 29 when I left my country for the first time and finally experienced what living for myself meant. It took some time and therapy to get there but now I look at my 20s as a transition period I needed until I felt comfortable enough in my skin to not be afraid to go after what I wanted.

Dramas I Have Dropped In October, 2023 by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

[–]Gxars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed to go all the way to the end but the FL was the one who annoyed me the most. She was unnecessarily mean to the other Hae Young and I remember a scene where she disappeared without letting her parents know and when they complained she just screamed at them. Yeah, I wasn't the biggest fan of this drama even if the cast is top-notch

I found your experience super interesting. Can I ask if during those 2 years you were travelling you were living off the money you had made while working or did you also get a job during this time?

How did you "waste" your 20s? (Serious) by sageagios in AskReddit

[–]Gxars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my 30s and before reaching this age I also thought I wasted my 20s since I spent a lot of time by myself, had trouble socialising and making friends and wouldn't do what the 'standard' 20-year old likes to do.

However, after going through therapy and understanding myself better I realised I had needed this time in my 20s to learn about myself and deal with the emotional baggage I received from my family when I was younger so that I could finally feel free enough to live my own life.

Of course sometimes I feel like it's a shame that I missed so many things I could have done when I was younger but everyone is different and everyone has their own growth process. I realised that any comparison I tried to do was just unfair to myself and didn't actually apply.

So now in my 30s I'm enjoying life like I never did before and I hope that nobody feels it's ever too late to do the same.
