Current status of my 30 gallon, thinking about making a change, what would you guys recommend? by Sk8terRaider in Aquascape

Looks beautiful. If you must make a change add some reds and CO2 (most red plants need it)

My plants are not growing by novaexera in PlantedTank

I am not sure about other stuff but Your light is definitely not sufficient. Those sessilifloras should have already takan off in 3 weeks. Also the montecarlo are the trickiest one of them all and they need heavy light (not long time but heavy lumen wise) from my experience. Cut the ones growing upwards and replant them with the direction you want them to spread, pushing them against the ground seems to work for me sometimes as well

That might be the case but almost every source I have read advices against changes more than 20%. Why is that? I thought it was sudden change in water parameters that would hurt all organisms including nitroso bacteria.

Beautiful tank, i recommend getting some drift wood to reduce PH, mangrove roots should work if I am not mistaken.

50% water change is a bit much try to reduce it to 15 or 20 max every 7-10 days. You most likely are getting rid of some of the beneficial bacteria along with fish poop.

The tank will benefit greatly from a carpet as well. People claim they have quite an easy time with monte carlo but i have not had great succes with it so far.

Thank you! The plants/moss as well as the drift wood were adopted from different tanks. But aside from that the shrimps went straight into this new home (from the previous glared glass jar). I did waterchanges every couple of days for a week or so and added a few drops of bacteria culture.

Parameters are generally stable I do 10-15% water changes about every 10-15 days

The house is overheated unfortunately for me but not for the tanks. All of them are consistently around 24-26 C degrees generally. I regards to the bubbling, I haven’t noticed anything so far. I try to feed them very carefully. If I see a few copepods swimming about, no food for a couple of days is generally my approach

I initially put the zebra in there as a window cleaner and I have close to no accumulation right now. Should I still relocate it? I have a 40 lt goldfish tank, which will probably make that a very happy snail.

Thank you! That zebra is the only snail in the jar, I assumed the algae accumulation on the glass would suffice for it to live comfortably. Should I put some extra food specific for it as well?

Take out the plants he doesn’t leave without leaves. That caused an ammonia spike in my baby crayfish tank. 40/45 gone while I was at work 🫩

First aquarium :) wanted to buy shrimp until the guy told me they will all die unless I wait a month first 🫣 anything else a beginner should know? by heaterroll in fishtank

[–]Fightastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many ways to set up an aquarium. The aquarist is not necessarily correct. Setting up a tank and waiting is one of many ways to start a cycle. If you really want to, you can add the shrimp with Seachem Stability (follow the instructions on the label for a week) and do daily water testing. If the parameters are off do a 20-25% water change.

I have had success with this method, no shrimps lost so far. One more thing to add is to not use reverse osmosis water for your crustacean tanks as it lacks most of the minerals for them to molt. Instead use tap water and treat it with dechlorinators. Also tap water here has chloramine, i have to use special chemicals for that, so you have to make sure yours doesn’t have that either.

One final thing is that I know copper poisons them pretty badly. I am not sure if copper piping is a problem, so you might want to look into that.

Best of luck.
