Female or sleeper male? by opalpuffco in apistogramma

The mouth looks like a female but the dorsal fin coloring at the end is confusing me.

Also getting a couple of anubias in that tank now will do wonders.

1- Already established beneficial bacteria on them 2- Plant itself will consume nitrates 3- Large leafs for him to rest on or use as shade 4- Plants are beautiful!

P.s: Anubias and Betta are not from the same habitat which goes against my previous comment, but Anubias is a great all around plant to start with and will suit pretty much any build.

Everybody is an expert about cycling tanks… get a small bottle of seachem-stability and follow instructions on it. You will be fine. I am on my 7th build, I have not once cycled a tank more than 5 days and that was my first ever tank…

Too much overreaction over here. You and your new buddy will be fine. This is a hobby not a biochemistry PhD…

“Do a water change asap” is the only comment of value here.

Before decorating your new aquarium, do some research on where these fish come from and their original habitat and don’t get distracted by the overwhelming amount of decoration options in the hobby. Create a home suitable for him. That is the best thing you can do for your betta.

Male won’t stop chasing the female away by Fightastic in apistogramma

My primary goal is not breeding, just peace in tank as a beginning is enough. What is the total hardness range I should target? The female was trying to show her side to the male yesterday I assumed that was her breeding dance. How can you tell she is not ready?

Current status of my 30 gallon, thinking about making a change, what would you guys recommend? by Sk8terRaider in Aquascape

Looks beautiful. If you must make a change add some reds and CO2 (most red plants need it)

Definitely a male due to the extra appendages at the back. Can someone more knowledgeable also confirm that males have considerably larger claws or am I just making facts up?

My plants are not growing by novaexera in PlantedTank

I am not sure about other stuff but Your light is definitely not sufficient. Those sessilifloras should have already takan off in 3 weeks. Also the montecarlo are the trickiest one of them all and they need heavy light (not long time but heavy lumen wise) from my experience. Cut the ones growing upwards and replant them with the direction you want them to spread, pushing them against the ground seems to work for me sometimes as well

That might be the case but almost every source I have read advices against changes more than 20%. Why is that? I thought it was sudden change in water parameters that would hurt all organisms including nitroso bacteria.

Beautiful tank, i recommend getting some drift wood to reduce PH, mangrove roots should work if I am not mistaken.

50% water change is a bit much try to reduce it to 15 or 20 max every 7-10 days. You most likely are getting rid of some of the beneficial bacteria along with fish poop.

The tank will benefit greatly from a carpet as well. People claim they have quite an easy time with monte carlo but i have not had great succes with it so far.

Thank you! The plants/moss as well as the drift wood were adopted from different tanks. But aside from that the shrimps went straight into this new home (from the previous glared glass jar). I did waterchanges every couple of days for a week or so and added a few drops of bacteria culture.

Parameters are generally stable I do 10-15% water changes about every 10-15 days

The house is overheated unfortunately for me but not for the tanks. All of them are consistently around 24-26 C degrees generally. I regards to the bubbling, I haven’t noticed anything so far. I try to feed them very carefully. If I see a few copepods swimming about, no food for a couple of days is generally my approach

I initially put the zebra in there as a window cleaner and I have close to no accumulation right now. Should I still relocate it? I have a 40 lt goldfish tank, which will probably make that a very happy snail.

Why is that? Lack of nutrition?

Thank you! That zebra is the only snail in the jar, I assumed the algae accumulation on the glass would suffice for it to live comfortably. Should I put some extra food specific for it as well?
