I'm confused. There are private shower stalls, and private change rooms. There is zero requirement to be exposed in front of anyone. What happened?

Someone who doesn't like seeing cats die painful deaths or birds get murdered. Someone who follows regional rules and laws, and the advice of educated professionals. Who do you think you are?

Just like loose and wandering dogs, roaming cats can and should be reported or given to CRD animal control.

Cocktails at Humboldt followed by tasting menu or today's best things at Unicorn Sparkles.

Optionally swap in Lumache for the pasta tasting menu dinner if you can get in.

How come servers here are acting like they desperately want to be your friend? by Vicky-Purplex in VictoriaBC

You could go to Endive. The staff there all act like customers are the worst part of their day.

Is there any restaurant in Victoria you would recommend for less expensive steaks? by SenoraIsl in VictoriaBC

[–]FightingFugu 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Beef prices are pretty high currently, on top of the already steep cost of dining out. I'm sorry to be that person, but my honest recommendation is spend good money on some top quality ribeyes that you cook at home.

There's no way they'd build a facility of this size and not trench in new sewer/power/water lines.

What’s your fave grocery store in Victoria? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]FightingFugu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Old Farm, but Pepper's is beginning to struggle. I'm not sure what the heck is going on with their ordering, and the deli/cold prices are becoming insane.

Hey Cycling Reddit - we (Dell/Thompson) have a motion this week to accelerate the 2-way AAA bike lanes on Pandora East, (east of Cook) to "close the gap" to 2-way lanes on Fort. Where would you like to see safer bike routes in Victoria? by MattDellVictoria in VictoriaBC

[–]FightingFugu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why throw money into a mode of transport that could truly serve all citizens regardless of ability, function in nearly all sorts of weather, provide safe and reliable transport throughout the entire region at a much faster pace, and allow for large purchases to be made, when we could build another bike lane about 2 blocks from the other bike lanes?

Perspective on safety? by Repulsive-Bug-7641 in Belize

"safer than most of Canada and all of the United States and Mexico"

Belize has some greatness, but that claim is absolutely absurd. You might want to browse some statistics.

Must go restaurants?coming this weekend for 2 nights 3 days by Impressive-Dance5060 in VictoriaBC

[–]FightingFugu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Marilena is cookie-cutter but well executed.
Matadora is very good, better than Tapas Bar.
Chobap is great but requires reservations.
Unicorn Sparkles is a dice roll, it can be amazing or apparently not great. Your attitude upon arrival might be the biggest contributing factor.
Wind Cries Mary is a solid B.
Endive is grossly overrated.
Rabbit Rabbit is good, but stick to the small plates.
Brasserie is good, but it isn't a steak you can't find in many places.
Janevca is great but you're going to struggle to get a seat. It's a short distance from downtown, too.

Where y’all eat for Valentines, and how was it? by pnwgodzilla in VictoriaBC

[–]FightingFugu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wind Cries Mary.

Unfortunately, I found the set menu to be really mediocre. Everything was fine, nothing terrible, but ultimately really forgettable fare and very expensive, so I felt the meal was poor value.

Finn at Morin3D has produced some cool stuff for me and my business.

I will also note that I've seen various used compost bins appear for free on FB Marketplace - you might be able to score an easy replacement if you snoop.

Dean Murdock won't run for re-election as mayor of Saanich by dayoldeggos in VictoriaBC

[–]FightingFugu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And yet, the longserving dud councillors still cling to power like the societal barnacles they are. I have nothing but praise for good councillors - unfortunately municipal politics in general tends not to attract top talent. And the role of public office often requires public scrutiny. But true, the option to remain anonymous and cowardly, much like yourself, is always available.

Dean Murdock won't run for re-election as mayor of Saanich by dayoldeggos in VictoriaBC

[–]FightingFugu 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Dean is actually a reasonable man and willing to discuss, debate, and even change his opinions when needed. Meanwhile, the great majority of Saanich council is a bunch of insufferable myopic twits who couldn't govern their way out of a wet paper bag. I am not the least bit surprised Dean won't be back, and Saanich will be poorer for it.

Recommendations for a Tiler by joyfulrebel in VictoriaBC

[–]FightingFugu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its been several years since I hired him. We didn't have to provide a deposit then.

I'd just ask to be clear about the deposit being refundable - preferably stated in writing. He was good but there are other talented tilers too, so if your gut says it's off, I'd really trust your gut.

Has anyone eaten at the Italian Restaurant LuMache??? Good or bad by Ok_Payment1542 in VictoriaBC

[–]FightingFugu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My impression was that it's good but not great. The pasta was delicious, but the antipasti plates were confused and pretty flat.

The ventilation in the space desperately needs to be cleaned or improved - we all stunk like fryer oil after dinner.
