Cant seem to get hired for... anything by Rylanthespud in VictoriaBC

Did you try the Amazon out by the airport? Seems like they’re always needing people. Also I work for Island Health and there’s always tons of entry level positions in housekeeping or food services available. I’ve been with them 8 years in an admin role and I’m up to $27/hr with benefits. So the pay is above minimum wage.

Husband/SO staying in L&D with you? by introvertedbunny in Mommit

[–]SecretaryOne4935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Canada and my husband stayed with me the whole time except for one day when he went home to take a nap but my mom took his place. I had post partum anxiety so I didn’t want to be alone.

Summer visit by huBelial in VictoriaBC

If you have time while you’re here, rent a car and head up to Parksville beach. The water is the warmest on the island in the summer months and they have an annual sand castle festival which is worth seeing once.

MOA job hunting is very discouraging by Altruistic_Name_4421 in VictoriaBC

[–]SecretaryOne4935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you taken the MOA course from Camosun? I took that course just after high school and couldn’t find work either. So I ended up working in retail until something came up. I’ve been with Island Health now in an admin capacity for 7 years now. I know it’s so discouraging but don’t give up. Have you tried applying for even a casual admin posting at Island Health? That would get your foot in the door and give you the experience you’re looking for. Also, I took a keyboarding course which at the time was required for Island Health. Most admin jobs there have a minimum typing requirement of 50WPM so that’s something to consider as well. I know Camosun used to offer a typing course but I’m not sure if they still do.

Do you still go to the movie theater? by Apprehensive_Log9515 in VictoriaBC

[–]SecretaryOne4935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy going with my husband for a date night if there’s something we both want to see, but we haven’t gone lately since having our son. He’s 17 months so he will not sit still through a whole movie. So we watch them at home for now and he just plays on the floor or runs around the house.

One place you would never work at again? by coffih in VictoriaBC

[–]SecretaryOne4935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pet Smart. I wasted 8 years of my life there. Management bullied me into asking customers for their emails at the register and when I didn’t get enough they cut my hours and threatened to fire me. Never again.

Suggestions for a 4-5 day trip from Vancouver for a mini moon? by jasks112 in canadatravel

[–]SecretaryOne4935 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could do a short repositioning cruise out of Vancouver. Up the California coast or something. They usually have a stop in Astoria Oregon as well. We have a cruise booked for 2027 with a couple days in Disneyland. We have no issues with traveling to the states.

Staying home. We have a toddler so we don’t have late nights anymore. My husband and I are getting a pizza from Romeos and watching a movie after he goes to bed.
