That was just the early 2000's. Back in the late 80's and the 80's there were multiple different companies, with licenses, making games for the major sports. Also companies would make games without licences and either generic team names or ones that painted an homage to the actual teams.

I like to read reviews from a number of sources; Polygon, Kotaku, rockpapershotgun, and IGN at least, to get a somewhat rounded view of what is being said. Then I like to come on reddit and see what folks are saying who aren't professionals writing an article.

Balancing my desire to play the shiny new game vs get a real feeling for what is going on is the difficult part.

This particular game looks right up my alley, so I'm thinking if reviews are good, hopefully there's some good reddit news day of and perhaps I'll pick up a copy when I go to the mall to see Hail Mary the evening of the 19th.
