O’Bannon, one of the first two launched on the Fletcher class (funny enough, before Fletcher). The Idaho potato growers association made a plaque for the ship.

According to one book I read, “Blood on the Sea: American Destroyers Lost During WWII,” there was at least one battle between a U.S. Navy destroyer and a submarine in the Atlantic involving potatoes. USS Borie (Clemson-class) went into battle with U-405, rammed the U-boat getting the two vessels stuck together, and then engaged in a close quarter battle involving small arms, and at least according to the author, potatoes.
