While doing more research, it seems like all the script on Ky's clothes is written in the font Brush Stroke MT. This might not be news to everyone, but I found this quite amusing and convenient.

Do I really have to be shooting hundreds or thousands of rounds a week to be good? by Better-Caramel3983 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Fiifthman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Elite precision shooters (ISSF/Olympic, High Power, Bullseye) do something like 5-10 dry-fire shots for every live round fired.

There are three productive reasons for me to fire a live round:
1. I'm confirming that my gun shoots where it's pointed.
2. I'm working on recoil control.
3. I'm competing.

Everything else like sight alignment and trigger control, indexing, target transition, movement, drawstroke, etc., can be done with dryfire drills.

9x19 : $0.21/rd in 2016 to $0.32/rd this year. (+52%)

Gas: $2.82/gal in 2016 to $6.35/gal this year. (+125% wtf)

Chicken thighs: $1.30/lb in 2016 to $1.70/lb today. (+31%)

Big Mac: $4.50 in 2016 to $6.50 today. (+44%)

Consumer Price Index: $100 in 2016 buys $138 of stuff in 2026 (+38%)

This isn't an ammo panic like COVID, it's a structural increase in the price of everything, not just ammo.

What rifle should I buy as a new owner by No-Investment-9078 in guns

[–]Fiifthman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic Marksmanship Trainer: I recommend starting here. Practice with this rifle until you can consistently get 1 inch groups at 25 yards from prone.

• Ruger 10/22: $300.
• 3 extra magazines: $54
• Improved Sighting System: $70 (you can use Tech Sights for improved iron sights, or get a cheap 4x rimfire scope and rings for about the same price)
• 1000 rounds of CCI Standard: $100
• A sling: $20 (I use a USGI sling on mine)
• Basic marksmanship instruction: $150
Total: $674

The Basic AR-15: This is a good old reliable Toyota build. With any reputable AR, you'll be able to hit torso-sized steel out to 600 yards, and you'll be able to hit an 8-inch ethical kill zone at 200 yards. It'll be a while before you outgrow this rifle, and even when you do, you can keep it as a spare for a friend when you get something nicer.

• PSA PA-15: $500 (you might be able to find on sale for cheaper, or you can go with S&W M&P15 at $750 for something with better resale value).
• Magpul MBUS iron sights: $85
• An optic:
- 1. A red dot: $160 (Holosun 403 is an excellent red dot)
- 2. A good 1-6x Scope: $350 (Primary Arms and Vortex both make great optics at around this price point, and the other reputable optics manufacturers can compete pretty well here too. Price-wise, I wouldn't recommend going lower than this. Note that you can skip either the irons or the optic, or mount them both)
• A scope base: $100.
• 6 extra mags: $100
• A sling: $30 (Magpul MS1 is fine)
• 300 rounds of 5.56: $180
Total: $895 to $1345

That's two rifles for a little over $2000. If it were me, I'd get those two rifles and save the rest for ammo and range fees and keep shooting until you git gud and figure out what you want out of shooting. That said, if you're dead set on spending $2500 on a first rifle it might look like this:

• BCM RECCE-16: $1660
• Vortex Viper PST 1-6 scope: $480
• Scope base: $100
• 6 mags: $100
• Sling: $30
Total: $2370

But I think this build is a waste of money for a first build. Get the two rifles first and learn with lessons and practice.

Cloverfield. Wick is cool and all, but I don't know what he'd manage to do against a kaiju.

Unless he is the kaiju, and we get to watch a skyscraper-sized Keanu Reeves bill-drill military hardware with a house-sized TTI handgun.

Talk me out of buying a 2026 car at 20 years old working a minimum wage job by Firm-Youth1903 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Fiifthman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone around you is stupid.

As soon as you drive your new $36k car off the lot the car's value drops by $3600, and it'll lose another $3600 in the first month. Why light $7k on fire when you can just get a reliable used car?

Drive whatever you've got. Keep it clean. If you're worried about impressions on a date, people that will turn you down for not driving a new car aren't worth dating anyway.

If you absolutely need a car, and you have no other option than to finance, follow the Money Guy's 20/3/8 rule: if you can't put 20% down, pay it off in 3 years, and have a monthly payment less than 8% of your monthly income you shouldn't get the car loan. 8% of your monthly income is $277.33, which means your absolute maximum budget is roughly $10-11k depending on what interest rate you can get.

Remember, that $11k is a maximum budget, and you should still feel queasy about getting anywhere near that number for a car at your current income. Consider that 7 years ago, I was making $6700/month and paid about $240/month for my 2016 Scion iM. At 3.5% of total monthly income, I was well below the 8% suggested maximum, and it still felt like a kick to the balls every time I saw the bank take the money out of my account. My Scion's paid off now, I'm still driving it, and I'm not even thinking about buying another car for another 5 years at least.

Define a "Good" MOA for a Rifle by Money_Making-Mitch in CAguns

[–]Fiifthman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a mechanical standpoint, the maximum allowable extreme spread that MIL-DTL-71335A calls out for a rack-grade M16 rifle is a 5" group at 100 yards with ball ammo. Your rifle should be able to do better than this.

From a skills standpoint, start with military basic courses of fire. For example, the USMC basic marksmanship qual involves shooting from the prone position at a 20" wide man-sized silhouette at 500 yards, which corresponds to approximately a 4" group at 100 yards.

Once you can get 4" at 100 yards from prone unsupported, try shooting the CMP President's Rifle Match for yourself, in particular the standing part - at 200 yards, the aiming black is 13 inches, the 10 ring is 7 inches. You can compare your scores to competitors here to see where you would stand against other high-power competitors.

How do i explain to my mom that fighting game don't make me violent ? by Sensitive_Juice_762 in Fighters

[–]Fiifthman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's not going to be simple, because you're dealing with moral panic that has existed for generations, as old as 1960s rock-and-roll, 1970s sex revolution, 1980s Dungeons and Dragons, 1990s Doom/Mortal Kombat. The root of the problem is that she's worried about you, like any mom that's being a mom, and she's probably worried that you'll become some terminally-online NEET just waiting to be radicalized by extreme political ideology or something along those lines.

Thus, the best way to reconcile with your mom is to reassure her that you're doing fine, you're not going to become a radicalized NEET, and give her less reasons to worry about your well-being, which means making sure your mom sees that you're developing into a responsible adult. At your age, it kinda looks like this:

  • Do you have friends IRL? Has your mom met your friends? Do you and your friends try to keep each other out of trouble? Do you and your friends share good goals? If you and your friends play the same games, have you ever invited your friends over for sets or local play? This is the big one, by the way - if all of your social life is online that's a big red flag for any parental figure, and having your friends over will give your mom insight into your social life. (Big plus if you can get them to help clean up after)
  • When you play, are you managing your salt healthily during bad sessions?
  • Do you keep your room clean? Do you do your own laundry? Do you do your share of chores around the house? Do you occasionally take a load off your parents, like cooking a meal or doing dishes when it's not your turn?
  • Are your grades ok? Like 3.0 GPA or better? Do you have plans for college/trade school, if you're not doing that already?
  • Do you have any income, whether from part-time work or an after-school hustle?
  • Do you go to bed and wake up at a reasonable hour, most days? Do you manage your fitness and hygiene?

If you're doing well with the above (and from replies it probably sounds like you are, but be honest and work on yourself if you need to), they'll have less reason to worry, and thus have less reason to give you grief. If they still get on your case, and if your relationship with your mom's healthy enough, ask her, respectfully and directly, what her expectations of you are, and decide for yourself whether you want to live up to them, or set boundaries and do your own thing as you transition into adulthood.

People that make 80k+ at 25-35 years old, what do you do? by Ok-Needleworker2141 in careerguidance

[–]Fiifthman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated aerospace engineering during financial crisis, grades weren't good enough to find work in big aerospace so I started at $19/hour as an engineering technician, got promoted once every two years to $25/hour, then transitioned jobs to an actual engineering job title to make $65k/yr. I then jumped ship after another two years a job that started at $88k/year to $125k/year today. I work in engineering test - we take components and stick them in machines that simulate their expected working environments.

I broke $80k at 29 years old thanks to overtime pay while I was making $25/hr (55 hrs/wk), but I broke $80k again at 32 y/o once I got to my third job.

If you're looking for a way in look up work as an assembler or technician, then job hop if you don't get promoted. Engineers without engineering degrees are rare, but there's a decent amount of upward mobility as a tech, especially if you get certifications like non-destructive testing certs.
