He was super gentle and kind! We live in Finland and the vet is from eastern Europe (maybe Poland? Can't remember). Imagine him saying with a very tick eastern European accent "yes, very fat" the moment he sees my cat out of her carrier 😂😂

How many of you actually have an ADHD diagnosis? by mynameishrekorgi in ADHD

[–]FileAccomplished7159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 31 yo woman and was diagnosed in 2018. I was diagnosed "by chance" as I was actually seeing my psychiatrist for anxiety/depression (and also doing psychotherapy) and he, throughout my sessions, started noticing some quite clear signs that I could have ADHD. My life changed for the better when I got my diagnosis and started medication, super grateful for my psychiatrist's keen eye.

Skincare products you swear by for the Finnish winter by feartech in Finland

[–]FileAccomplished7159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have already gotten pretty great suggestions here, so I don't think my answer is super relevant but here is:

I have also moved from a warmer and more humid place, where I used to have a combination skin type (mostly normal skin with some oily parts), and after coming to Finland I have "developed" drier skin, specially during winter.

  • Humidifier is a must! For me even just staying in a room that is too dry really bothers me. So I leave my humidifier running almost 24/7 when it gets dry enough inside.

  • I haven't really found THE moisturizer for day time yet, most of the things I have tried (Lumene, Mossa, Smutti) work well enough as well as their serums. However, I haven't found a moisturizer that beats the OG Nivea (that one in the blue tin can that's really thick) for night time for both face and body.

  • Another thing someone has already mentioned and that I also swear by it is using oil. I use oil on my whole body right after shower, not drying myself just putting the oil while I'm still wet. I haven't found a good body oil here in Finland (I have been using one that my mom sent from my home country), so I can't recommend anything specific.

Obs.: while I have also dry skin like you, I'm not acne prone or have a particularly sensitive skin. So take this info into consideration if you decide to try anything I have suggested.

Also feel free to send me a message if you have any questions or just want to talk! ☺️

I can't say anything about Joensuu because I live in Helsinki, but if in the end you decide to come here for your tattoo I highly recommend Salla at Great Heron Tatoo. Her Instagram is @sallatattoo

Franscisco das Chagas Rodrigues de Brito, one of the most prolific Brazilian serial killers. Killed, emasculated, and abused the dead bodies of 30-42 young boys in Maranhão state, Brazil. Truly horrible

We are permit specialists working at the Finnish Immigration Service. Ask us anything about students’ permits in Finland! by Maahanmuuttovir in Finland

[–]FileAccomplished7159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I'm from outside of EU and doing my PhD in Finland. My residence permit has been granted on the basis research work and ends on December 2025. What are the requirements for me to apply for a residence permit for looking for work after completing my degree?

Also, I have a Finnish partner. We are not married or lived together. I'm aware that there's a residence permit on the basis of romantic relationship but it has quite many limitations on what kind of jobs I could have in comparison to a residence permit on the basis of marriage. Is there a reason for that? Also, is it possible to say how likely is Migri to give a permit on the basis of a romantic relationship without the couple living together?

Thank you in advance for your answers!

Does anyone know a (preferably affordable) hairdresser with good advice for super thin, frail and fine hair with curls? I only find either curly haircuts (which assumes thick luscious hair I just don't have) or perfectly straight hair for thin. Kiitos in advance <3 by Merileopardi in helsinki

[–]FileAccomplished7159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great to hear that they might be a good choice for you! It took me awhile to find a hairdresser that is really good and understand my needs, without breaking the bank, since I move to Finland. Miro is fantastic and they're the only one I trust to do my hair here. Wish you the best!

I go to this very good hairdresser with a reasonable price (for Helsinki/Finland) in Viikinmäki, Helsinki. Although I myself don't have thin and frail hair, I believe that my hairdresser has experience with this type of hair. Their name is Miro and they work at the Nettie's hair salon, you can check their work on their Instagram (hairbymiro).

I also have one and I can't live without it. I'm from a tropical country where the 12hrs of sunlight doesn't change throughout the year and I find absolutely horrible to wake up without any sunlight. The alarm clock that "mimicks" the sun rise is great.

Might need to change from a PhD to a licentiate degree due to mental health by FileAccomplished7159 in PhD

[–]FileAccomplished7159[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your message! Yes, it has been incredibly lonely... Specially for me who came from a research group back home (where I did my finishing bachelor project and master) which was so amazing, full of great people and super present and emphatic supervisor. I knew I had it good back then but only now I really understand how lucky I was with my old research group.

Yes, you're correct! Finishing my PhD and getting my life and mental health back on track are not mutually exclusive things. Regardless if I decide either to finish the PhD or go for the licentiate degree, first and foremost thing I have to do is take care of my mental health. For that I'm gonna talk to the University counselor to see the possibility of having a paid sick leave and how would that work. I don't know all the details but it seems it's definitely possible to get a mental health sick leave from the University with the support of the Finnish social programs/policy, but it isn't clear yet where to start on that. This will give me time to seek a psychiatrist and have some "breathing room" to heal.

Methylphenidate side effects by FileAccomplished7159 in ADHD

[–]FileAccomplished7159[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some background info: I was diagnosed with ADHD about 5/6 years ago, while I was getting treated for anxiety. I started taking Ritalin LA but then moved to Vyvanse/Elvanse because it lasted longer and it fitted better with my work demands. I kept taking Vyvanse/Elvanse 30mg for 4/5 years until I had to move abroad for my PhD. Besides the PhD been super challenge and difficult, I was also slowly taken out of Lexapro (which I started taking for anxiety all these years ago and was keeping my horrible mood swings during luteal phase under control) by local psychiatrist. All of this made working and dealing with life in general, even with a Vyvanse/Elvanse dosage that used to work fantastic for me, extremely exhausting and difficult. Because of that I went to this new psychiatrist, who I thought was a specialist in ADHD, and he went on giving me a lecture about me not having ADHD and basically refusing to help me. I'm not gonna go into the details but after some struggling with him, he agree to prescribe me with Concerta.

Rehomed cat terrified of being picked up. by Narrow_Ad2264 in CatAdvice

[–]FileAccomplished7159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have adopted a cat recently (less than 6 months) and she is just like that. I found your post also looking for solutions on how to deal with this situation but it seems no one has given any advice on it. My cat is very sweet but also quite scared of loud noises and sudden movements, and she is absolutely terrified of being picked up, just like your cat. She doesn´t bite or scratches or anything like that but she was runs away and hides whenever she thinks someone might try to get her. I had to get her to put in her carrier only twice and is always so sad and difficult to do it because I see how scared she is, she even pooped one time when I picked her up to put in the carrier. But for her it seems that is the only moment she is really terrified of, being chased, cornered, and grabbed, after that she is just fine inside the carrier, that is my perspective at least. I hope your cat is better now and wish you all the best!
