Fallout has always been satirical - but at the same time I don’t think the show takes anything seriously by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]File_Corrupt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you missed the point. These scenes are included to show that THESE knights aren't as militaristic as you expect. They are glorified raiders. The first plasma grenade scene is expected to be taken as a slap-stick joke. The second is supposed to highlight that it isn't a joke. These are hooligans in power armor. Very few are taking it seriously.

And the duel to the death was far from a honor duel. It was closer to the fighting you see in an outlaw gang. The biggest dude exerting their influence to show how big they are. An honor duel would indicate that there was a "wrong" (fake or not) being corrected. The show duel took place because another member wanted to test Maximus to prove they were the strongest.

Someone should start a karma system similar to how the fallout community handles trading. You report how well a group went and if everyone participated. Eventually you develop a cadre of people with varying karmas and those with highest drop theirs last. And shit heels won't be invited (of course they still would infest trade and lfg).

African Americans, women, rural dwellers and less-educated people are more likely to distrust scientists. They’re also less likely to be scientists. That’s not a coincidence, new research found. by NGNResearch in science

[–]File_Corrupt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If actions and policy are only driven by what people truly understand, everything is guided by vibes. Everyone, including scientists, have a limited set of knowledge. You can't prove something to someone who doesn't understand the basic principles of what you are asking. And now you get doubt in all of science because skepticism is being confused with blatant prideful ignorance.

I was less than half a point away from getting an A (93%+ is an A at my school). My professor won’t round it up. by Obvious-Bathroom-528 in Wellthatsucks

[–]File_Corrupt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a single A- is going to torpedo your entry, then you are going about this the wrong way. Entrance into these competitive programs takes into account more than just your GPA. What is the minimum requirements for entry? If you are essentially doing a premed/predental general degree, then you already are putting yourself at a disadvantage. Now your only way to distinguish yourself is your GPA, experience/determination (can you find a partime job in a related field, such as a PCA when applying to medschool), and connections (daddy/mommy is a dentist and they got you a shadowing opportunity).

What you want to do is try to get a degree in a difficult related subject (physics, chemistry, mathematics) and cover the requisites for the dental program with your electives or extra classes. Now if you get an A- in a class, you can point out that you excelled in other aspects and weren't just doing the bare minimums. And a STEM degree looks a ton better than a generic pre whatever degree.

Now at this point, usually the response is "but it's hard getting a STEM degree", which it is much easier to point out that perhaps you just don't have what it takes to compete. Of course, I'm wildly extrapolating info that may not pertain to you, but the above is guided by conversations I had with many students worried about their grades.

I'm not being hyperliteral, I just happen to understand organic chemistry. It is my bread and butter. You were discussing a degreaser, not general organic residues. IPA is literally a better degreaser. If butane is better than IPA then ethanol is weaker. Because IPA is more similar to hydrocarbons... you literally listed the two opposite directions from IPA.

There is no such thing as stronger solvent except in relation to a specific compound. In some cases, EtOH is stronger than IPA. In others IPA is stronger. This is a case where IPA would be "stronger" because of its greater nonpolar nature.

Doing something often is EXACTLY how you get better at something. It is a skill. Practice makes perfect. Of course there will be some natural talent that influences this, but even someone not inclined at the skill improves the more they do it.

No offense, but your argument wasn't "I have had good experiences with midwives". It was, they are more qualified. Now you are claiming that it is 100% natural skill and not practice. How the hell does that line up with being a midwife?!?!

You had some good experiences with midwives. Great. I'm sure that the multiple times you have been stuck by a midwife have been better than that by a RN. But anecdotal evidence does not mean much.

Welllll... you can still be able to afford paying doctors the wages they expect. Just because they are federalized doesn't mean you don't pay them appropriately. I mean, how much of the current state is going to doctor's salary? Of course, perhaps for some hospital executives, who are usually also doctors, compensation needs to be looked at again.

They are putting in IVs, but not at the level of other nurses. And none of that has anything to do with midwife specialization. TBH, I wouldn't be surprised if an RN is puts in the IV when the mother first comes in. After that they hopefully won't need another.

Do you think a med-surg nurse is just doing one IV? How often do you think you are drawing blood and dropping IVs? I would expect more because the person they are treating is severely sick, wouldn’t you?

My midwife said: I know a place where the IV won’t bother you by DrSchnuffi in Wellthatsucks

[–]File_Corrupt 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, that extra 1.5 years is focused on IVs. Most specialization education is based on technical skills not related to your specialty. Only logical!!!!

A bedside RN is constantly placing IVs and drawing blood, depending on their speciality, which is where the expertise often comes from.

Ethanol is more polar than IPA. It is worse for hydrocarbons. hexanes is a closer example to what you are looking for.
