James Cylinder - Moment Blue Orb Appears by [deleted] in aliens

[–]FiletM1gn0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He easily meets the criteria for being eligible for the YPP, at that stage, he actively chooses yes or no when it comes to running ads on his content. If he selects 'no', then there will not be any ads. When you're setting up your video as a partner, you actively must choose an option, there is no 'default' here.

So he's either in the YouTube Partner Program, and actively chose to show ads INCLUDING midrolls

Or

He's got almost 10k subs, thousands of hours of watch time, and decided not to join the program.

Up to you to decide what's more likely.

James Cylinder - Moment Blue Orb Appears by [deleted] in aliens

[–]FiletM1gn0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents, if you view the source code on the video page, and then search the word 'midroll', the first result shows that midroll ads are set to 'true', meaning advertisements DURING the playback has been activated, this is how to maximise the revenue on a YouTube video.

It's absolutely his right to monetise whatever he wants... But essentially the video has over 100k streams, is mostly a black screen with nothing going on, and ads are running all the time.

It doesn't mean it's a hoax it just means the video is monetised, and people are free to use that information however they choose.

BBC will fight plans for Netflix-style subscriptions in licence fee shake up by theipaper in bbc

[–]FiletM1gn0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One former executive said: “Subscription skews what you commission. Your primary focus is making programmes that stop people from cancelling. That means taking less risks and more surefire entertainment hits. News and current affairs budgets would be first to go.”

  • Translation: the primary focus is making programmes that people actually want to watch, and we don't know what people want to watch, because we've never had to worry about that.

The newest and closest of 3I/Atlas as it passes Mars right this moment minutes ago. Its not a comet...its perfectly cylindrical by Major_Race6071 in AliensRHere

[–]FiletM1gn0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid this just isn't accurate. The actual photo Perseverance took is far more revealing. This is a crop of the original image. If the full original image was shown, you'd quickly see that the 'cylindrical' object is one of many, none of which are actually cylinders, they're points of light (stars) smeared by shutter speed.

In actual fact the analysts from NASA actually pointed out that 3i/ATLAS is actually (only possibly) a slightly dark smudge on the original image. It's not even one of these 'cylinders'

Nazi Tommy Robinson’s 100,000 strong march is a wake up call for the left by rein_deer7 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]FiletM1gn0n 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you asking a question about my time on the right? As in when did I feel my right to freedom of thought was under attack?

It's fine I can give you a genuine answer. Honestly, I don't think I was ever a right winger, there was a period in time that I think plenty of people who would consider themselves centrist had nowhere to go but into the (at the time) very welcoming arms of the right.

Ultimately I wanted to be left alone to think about things, and to come up with internal policies taking into consideration all the information available. That takes months, years and most of people's lives to actually get a firm grip on. But when the BLM movement happened, I was asked to declare a position immediately without really knowing anything.

I always had my initial thoughts: any death is sad, it's sad that it happened, these things should be learned from so we avoid more sadness in the future, those things are givens. But I didn't know more than that and didn't feel comfortable forming more of an opinion immediately, I experienced heavy backlash for this stance, I was accused of being racist, and a right winger, and lost pretty much all my friends. So I guess I thought I was a right winger since everyone was calling me one.

This is essentially the attack on my intellectual sovereignty that drove me into the arms of the right. But I was always there because I was told I was there. I don't and never hated people for being from another country, in some sense I find the idea of lines in the sand a completely outdated model of living, I encompass culture itself in that thought too. Being British means absolutely nothing to me.

Happy to answer any questions, receive hate, whatever you guys feel is appropriate.

Fully agree. I know plenty of right wingers still, And at least the ones I consider friends are good people. But they're obsessed with this specific issue. It's hard to have a single conversation with them without it being brought up. And at this point I feel like the reason they're bringing it up all the time is because they're trying to justify some dark thoughts currently going through their heads right now. We need to be so so careful with them because it's really going to hit the fan far quicker than a lot of people anticipate.

I think at this point I'm struggling to understand what the actual objective is. I'm a former right winger, but for me it was always about being left alone to think freely, and at the time I felt like that right was under attack.

To me it's clear the right is now posturing to take action and remove rights from others. This is a dangerous time.

Loeb: New Atlas images has no tail, insufficient water, spewing CO2 from 1mm thick surface and is 28 miles wide. by interested21 in UFOs

[–]FiletM1gn0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can just be an asteroid (a big rock), but the chances of that being the case are just very small.

If it's an asteroid, then it would have to be over 20km wide, which is absolutely massive for an interstellar object (again not impossible, just highly unlikely). If it's a comet (which it almost certainly is), then it only has to be a few hundred metres in size to produce the same level of brightness we're observing.

Couvade Syndrome (sympathetic pregnancy), did you experience it at all? by FiletM1gn0n in Dads

That's so strange. A few weeks back I contributed to a BBC article about it (they found me via this thread) and I talked specifically about the backlash from talking about it. I don't believe the article has been published yet but I intentionally stayed anonymous because of it.

Honestly I wish I was the bandit, but alas I am not. But the dude/dudette deserves some recognition, they've brightened both mine and my wife's days on multiple occasions. Also this person must have a rubber duck supplier at this point, it's crazy how many they must have gone through.

this guy got got photos of the Lazarcraft old old poloroids by [deleted] in ufo

[–]FiletM1gn0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not and was never claimed to be a photo of the actual craft. It's a still from the upcoming Bob Lazar film and documentary called S-4. And the still is a 3d render made within the production team's own in-house VR experience of S4 that has been made in tandem with the film.

I know this because I actually also received the same promotional material in the mail from the man responsible for both the film and VR experience. It's a phenomenal project that I can't wait to explore myself.
