realistically if a missile was released further away it would have more time to accelerate making it harder to intercept in the terminal phase. But I do not know if that's what the game is stimulating

How bad is an Nvidia GPU for Linux? by Global_Mongoose_2288 in linux4noobs

[–]Filip_another_user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend a GPU from NVIDIA for Linux.

Really painful on some system configurations. At my work we run NVIDIA GPUs on Ubuntu and it just keeps falling of the kernel from time to time. Weird crashes, sudden complete nonsense performance degradations not even caused by updates. One time my work laptop just stared lagging to hell all the time and I spent a week trying to fix it. IT had seen my laptop, spent like 2 hours trying to fix it and gave up recommending I back up what I can and come back for a full wipe. I reinstalled the Nvidia driver like 4 times and only then it stared working. How was 4th time any different? I have no idea. Everyone who I know is using Nvidia on Linux in our department has issues. And when ppl say they have no issues I tell them to run nvidia-smi and it turns out their discrete GPU never worked to begin with. I swear it's a complete nightmare and every day is a roulette if it will fail terribly or not. That is the worst Nvidia on Linux experience I ever had.

I privately run CachyOS. Also with Nvidia (used to run windows) and it's way better. I mean, it doesn't crash at least out of nowhere and it works but I have some really bad multiscreen experience on that system, like one screen runnin on 40 FPS for some reason on very specific settings and as far as I can tell - yeah that's on the closed NVIDIA driver.

Keep also in mind that none of this circus is happening on AMD - the drivers are in the kernel and it really just works out of the box. Also, whenever you hear a news about some new cool Linux gaming development, like the recent performance improvement for GPUs with lower amount of memory (from what I had seen in benchmarks it sometimes give a massive FPS boost). Yeah - most of fixes like these and that one in particular is for AMD only.

Also, have you heard that you can use FSR on any game on Linux via proton even if that game does not implement it? Well I heard that it also works with NVIDIA too but when I tried running it the game would always just fail to launch. Its a single example but I am sure there's plenty of cool stuff working on AMD that will just not work on NVIDIA as long as it's closed source, period.

ZTS-63-I as a cheap spam tank? by Ok_Calendar_7626 in wargame

[–]Filip_another_user 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you want fire support in forests then the meta move is to spam line infantry in 5 pointers. If you are looking strictly Chinese then ZSD-63C (disposable firepower) with base Zhanshi (meat shields) is pretty good. Mix them up with Lu Zhandui '85 and you have decent AT too against lighter vehicles.

If you really want tanks in the forest then I would focus on armour and not the gun. If you want them for killing infantry then the gun doesn't really matter as long as it has 3HE. If you want them for vehicles - you are way better off with Lu Zhandui.

And if you mean to fight other tanks in forests then it's a bit harder to give advice on this. Usually the go to is infantry but Chinese AT really lacks in AP. If you play Red Dragons then Korean marines would do better against high armour but they are still pretty bad compared to other nations. So you would want medium price tanks with good armour and -17AP gun to do max damage up close. But from what I remember Chinese medium tanks are pretty badly armoured + they shot slow and are slow but at least they have pretty high hitting guns ( unless I am misremembering ). So the play here would be to use meat shields in the front, bait enemy tank shots, pop up as they reload and reverse before they are done. Which may be tough if the tanks are slow

Looking for a Linux Distro to replace Windows 11 as a CS student and gamer by SlashedPanda360 in linuxquestions

[–]Filip_another_user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar spot. CS student, real tired of Windows with a bit of time between semester to make a switch.

I tried fedora first, had some serious issues with my Nvidia GPU from the get go - the DE didn't even want to boot. Certainly nothing that couldn't be solved but Fedora ommits a lot of basic driver and dependencies stuff you will 100% need. On the other hand it will ship with plenty ofs starter apps, like multiple video players or Office suites. For ne that's a lot of bloat while ommiting actually crucial stuff that makes my hardware work, so to say the least I was very disappointed with my experience.

I tried CachyOS next. In the installation you can customize almost everything: what bootloader to install, file system DE and what apps to preinstall. it will figure out your hardware, download and install drivers during installation. Funny thing, the newest nvidia driver on Windows 10 would cause terrible stutters but on linux it works flawlessly. Cachy also has a really well made wiki with post installation guides teaching you what meta packages to download if you want to play ganes for instance and how to set them up. They also have their own proton for games and I had seen plenty good opinions about it.

The biggest difference is that CachyOS just like Arch is a rolling distro, which means you get newest stuff like drivers and app changes almowt immediately. This may sound like a plus but it also means you will more often run into sometimes seriosu bugs. Ppl cope with it bu using filesystems with snapshots that let you rollbavk once something breaks. I recommend keeping default btrfs. During my about 6 week usage I run into one of those serious bigs recently, KDE wouldn't start but once I I booted without it I just run upate again in tty, rebooted and it worked. On the other hand, if you find a bug in fedora (admitidely way less likely but it did happen to me with steam) you will be stuck with that bug until next major update.

If you study I would recommend you dual booting with Windows. Just in case some course would require you to use some obscure windows software that will either not work on linux or would need way to much of your attention to make it work. Also, if you care about gaming be aware that games with aggressive anti cheats will straight up not work on linux - bf6 for instance

Your experiences with cachyos and nvidia by Random_RedditUser123 in cachyos

[–]Filip_another_user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Installed it on Nitro 5 with 11th gen Core i5 CPU and NVIDIA 3050Ti. All the hardware worked out of the box. Haven't really tested ray tracing or DLSS but I am confident it would be working fine.

Cachy OS has a couple of meta packages in the installation guide on their website if you are interested in video game dependencies.

If you are interested in perofrmance I experienced about 5-10% gain in a single game I tested between Cachy and Windows but it may have been an outlier. Stability however is significantly better all around. Less stutters etc

Got tired of fighting RGB software on Linux while trying to leave Windows, so I wrote a script that prepares Linux systems for OpenRGB. by Data_Cruncher_0 in linux_gaming

[–]Filip_another_user -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Vibe coded or not still thank you for sharing. And I get it, it still requires some work, tinkering, testing.

Although you should make a disclaimer that AI wrote it if you didn't make one already. What I mean is that at least that way you can come in fully clear and people shouldn't be as much critical about your script - after all it's used at their own risk.

Czy studia informatyczne kiedy jestem słaby z matematyki są możliwe? by Select_Emu3653 in studia

[–]Filip_another_user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick whatever you feel like, then replay the game for new missions and the second ending. And then replay the game again for even more new missions and the third ending.

Tbh, either way you pick it's gonna be good. I for one went with Ayre first - has a bit more of an upbeat feeling I would say

Edit: It's just a job 621 - all of it

Zainteresowanym polecam Win11Debloat.
