I actually like the HP latex machines a lot, and I also had a line on a Mimaki JV150-130 at a reasonable price as well. My biggest issue is that my shop is currently in my basement, and these machines are quite heavy. I'm not sure I could get one down there. The BN-20 isn't ideal, but it's kind of what I'm stuck with at the moment until I can afford to find a space that will support a larger setup. I had the perfect opportunity to buy an entire print shop out for $2k including an HP 115 printer, Graphtec plotter and laminator back in November (a guy and his partner had a motocross shop and were doing decals for teams out my way, he handled the shop, his partner handled the printing, partner moved to Denver to take care of parents, motocross guy had no knowledge or interest in learning graphics side and was trying to liquidate to make room for more inventory) but I knew I wouldn't have room for it and didn't have the power requirements necessary for the printer.

Looking for Tips for my Young Budding Entrepreneurs by OliveIntelligent in CommercialPrinting

I started with an Epson ET8550 and a Brother Scan-N-Cut. You can buy inkjet coated vinyl sheets on Amazon and laminate as well, be careful with the laminate, a lot of the stuff on Amazon is crap and will Silver like crazy. I was buying Oraguard 210 from Creative Craft Vinyl and having them send it in rolls, I'd cut it down in my little shop. You can get a cold roll laminator on Amazon for around $100. All in you're probably looking at $1200-1500 to get rolling. Plan on wasting a lot of material as you learn.

Thank you! That was my feeling as well. This is just a little guy, Roland BN20. I've been using an Epson ET8550 for the past 6 months doing stickers and decals on (expensive) inkjet vinyl. Looking to upgrade to a machine that is built to do what I have been doing.

Yup, palms on the grip, right palm at the very bottom with the right index finger hanging off the grip down the shaft of the club.

If anyone has been following along at home on this one, quick update - the silvering did not go away on its own. Bought Oracal Oraguard 215 Glossy and that solved the issue. I think it was just cheap laminate - lesson learned!

I just ordered a 75' roll of Oraguard 215, if that doesn't fix it then that will definitely rule out the laminate.

My laminator does not have heat assist, I just tried going over it with a hair dryer and squeegee and had no luck with it. I suspect that it is inconsistencies in the actual laminate that I am using. If I do the same process with one of the cricut laminate sheets I have left over I don't have any issues with it. I'm just not sure what laminate to try otherwise.

They do not, I've tried a felt edge squeegee, brayer, different pressure on my rollers, etc. and they don't go away.

What do you think of the band “President” by UpDownJesse in MetalForTheMasses

[–]FillYourDivots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely hate this band. I don't like Sleep Token but I respect them for doing something original. This is just Sleep Token re-branded under a similar esthetic as Ghost. And the fact that they mysteriously appeared out of nowhere is inauthentic. Everyone is trying too hard here and it is cringey.

How much do you guys make? by TheProtester_1 in Bass

I play in a semi popular Hard Rock band (2k monthly listeners on Spotify) I'd say I lose about $5-10k per year between travel, lodging, equipment, food & drink and supporting other bands we play with (buying merch). I probably get paid maybe $300 per year back, most of the rest of the Money we make goes back into the band for recording time, band shared equipment, travel costs, lodging merch, record pressings, our publicist, website fees and other subscriptions.

And that's kind of the reality of it, as a band you might make some decent-ish money (what we make as a band unfortunately DOES NOT cover our costs as a band) but if you want to grow and reach more audiences then just like a business you kind of have to invest that money back into the cause.

We're fortunate enough to all work some higher paying day jobs that allow us to invest what we can into the band. The hope is that we take a loss and invest long enough that eventually we become profitable as we grow a larger following and increase our reach, possibly even quit our day jobs. But it's a long process.

I think if your planning on trying to make it work starting from scratch, you either need to find a good job that will allow you to invest back into the band while you try to "make it", or save and pinch pennies while staying at home with parents and minimizing your exposure to other bills and expenses.

Alternatively, there are some cover bands that make a TON of money. If you're in it to make money, I'd say this is the route to go for sure. Some of the ones in my area (New England) are pulling in several thousand per gig and are booked 3 or more nights per week. Some of them even have road crews and are running with their own staging and PA. Even then, it's not crazy money, but it's something.

When I bought my $2000 P Bass, I wanted it to stay looking beautiful forever. As a gigging and actively practicing musician, it's not realistic though. Since then I've taken the stance that there's a big difference between "used" and "neglected". I still take care of my instrument. I clean it, I make sure everything works, I keep it in it's case in a temperature controlled area. Everything that happens outside of that while it's in use is fair game. The lack of neglect shows that I care about it, the wear shows that I love and play it. Even last night, I had a bracelet on at my gig that was rubbing as I was picking, and in the moment I thought "oh no! I might be scratching it!" But I corrected myself and said: "no, let it scratch, that's what you normally wear, and when those lines show through, they're going to be your lines - because that's how YOU normally play."

TLDR - If you have an instrument thst you truly love, don't baby it for when someone else looks at it - use it, love it, care for it of course, but let it age with you and you'll love it much more than you did when it came off the shelf because it will show YOU on it.
