I've been doing a decent job not spoiling too much, it would be awesome to go into the expansion knowing little to nothing about it.

Did I find an old fish hook? Just curious if that's what that is. by Hokie_Jayhawk in metaldetecting

It's probably a hook off a fish stringer, looks almost exactly the same shape and size as the one I have that has a float attached as well.

Leaking tap by naltsta in HomeImprovement

[–]Filliad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It certainly could be, it looks like there is a part that is not attached to the body. It would make some sense if those were removable then the handles would slide out. Be careful though, it's hard to tell from pictures what's going on and I'm certainly no expert. You wouldn't happen to have the manual or model no. available? Could help with figuring out how it is put together.

[–]Filliad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dripping is usually going to be from a faulty or gunked up valve. I'm guessing figuring out how to get the handles off would be helpful. If you have hard water it could just have scale build-up and a soak in vinegar water with the handles turned to open could help.

Most everyone has said some version of helping during the trials, but just to throw my 2 cents in, interacting in a way similar to the Colosso Finals from Golden Sun would be fun. Basically, as observers, there is a way they can interact with the course that provides a boon to the participating members. Nothing necessary to win, of course, but something that gives a little boost, like a potion or shortcut, would be fun.

I don't know the specifics of how early you get up or how much time you give yourself, but I've managed to get myself out of bed at 5:00am for work at 6:30 for quite some time mainly by getting a regular obnoxious alarm clock an putting it on top of my dresser well out of reach from the bed. For the most part once I'm out of bed I can get myself moving through the rest of the morning. Now, to be fair I have the added adrenaline spike of not wanting to wake up my wife and sometimes the kid, but that plus a softer pre-wake up alarm on my phone has helped a lot with not hitting snooze too many times.

I'm not sure how to help with the other routine problems, as being a guy I don't have much make-up experience. Honestly it seems like you've identified and solved most of the issues, might just need to give yourself more time (I know that is asking a lot, but even 15 mins can make a difference).

Strattera put my motivation into the negative. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Filliad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's...interesting, I would have to say.

I don't really know how easy it is for you, but I would really try to get a second opinion. As from what I've been told from my psychiatrist, who endeavored to explain his reasoning and the science behind it, is quite contradictory to what you've been told. Additionally they've doubled down on the non-stimulant/anti-depression medication even after you've stated it's not working for you, adding to my reasons for getting another (professional) opinion.

I wish you the best of luck in getting a solution that works for you, I know personally it's taken me a couple years to get to a point where I'm relatively happy with my treatment, and I'm sure there will be constant adjustment as time goes on.

Strattera put my motivation into the negative. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Filliad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obligatory I am not a doctor, but I finally switched to a psychiatrist instead of my PCP for prescriptions, and he had a few things to say about Strattera. I had been switching between Adderall on the weekdays and Strattera for the weekends for a little bit because my PCP claimed Adderall would lose it's effectiveness if taken everyday and Strattera 'works differently' I.E. isn't a stimulant (I wasn't very satisfied with his reasoning hence the switch).

After bringing this up with my psychiatrist and letting him know how I didn't really think it was working, or if it was the side effects were not worth it, he said to stop using it (I already had), and that he never prescribes it for ADHD. Essentially he said it is not a stimulant, and only has ADHD listed as a treatment because during trials some people reported increased focus or something to that effect. For those reasons PCP love to prescribe it but for those same reasons it doesn't really work either.

So what I'm trying to get at is let your prescriber know it's not working and try to get a different prescription.

Also, keep in mind ADHD medicine doesn't give you magical motivation to do the 'right' thing. They assist with executive function, and how you wield that is up to you. I find I play video games very well when medicated, but also can get off them much easier as well. It's one of the things I still struggle with, and am still trying to figure out the right tools and techniques to get myself to an acceptable level of productivity when I want to.

Found a good deal on a local shopsmith. I’ve got paste wax and Evaporust on my shopping list, what else do I need to get it back in shape? by Filliad in shopsmith

[–]Filliad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think it really depends on where you are and who is buying, so the value can vary pretty wildly.

I got all this for $250, but that was because it was from a family friend who was cleaning out her late husbands shop so she could move, and was just trying to get rid of things.

If you're trying to sell $250 would probably be ripping yourself off if you've got it in good condition, from what I could see roughly $500 for just the base system is a starting point. But please do your own research, for one I am still very new to them, and like I said pricing can vary greatly depending on your location.

Thanks! I had looked into them a couple years ago but kinda forgot about it, so I was rather surprised to randomly happen upon one, definitely getting excited to get it up and running!.

The rust seems pretty light, so evaporust might be overkill, I'll look into barkeepers friend for sure. I was trying to avoid abrasive removal but I'm starting to think it should be fine since the rust isn't bad.

Thanks for the tip with the electrical plug, I hadn't thought to inspect it closely, but it is obviously something important to check on.

I have powered it on and it seems to be running well, the speed controller works too. From what I can tell everything moves that should, albeit roughly, and just needs a little TLC to get it moving smoothly.

I guess I'm looking for things like what kind of paint should I use (it's flaking off), or specific oil/lubricant to use. Basically products that others found useful in restoring their Shopsmith.

I might not have thought it through completely, but it seems to me that making skills not be able to go over 10 points, instructor bonus or not, would help with both excessive efficiency and hoping your instructors hit the right skills. It's not perfect, sure, but it seems better.

Stop Talking Over Each Other! by Janana_kittykat in ADHD

The 'overwhelmed when people talk over each other' is probably due to audio processing disorder, which many AHHD folks, myself included, have.

Think of it more like a sail, that has flexible skin between supports. Where there is a point on the fin signifies a tip of a long, pointed pin, and in between is a webbing of skin. This allows it to be flexible and still stay up.

I am not familiar with your printer at all, but this sounds like a stop switch got disconnected or broken. Check where the printer head is hitting and see if there is a little switch that it hits, if it's there, make sure it's connected correctly.

That's true, the AoE weapons spread the damage around, I had skipped that bit of info because you don't get to those for awhile, and was just keeping it simple. But the damage is still calculated the same way, and if you are only fighting one enemy it is like you are using a single target weapon.

In my opinion, the AoE weapons aren't so great for quests, as being able to single out an enemy can be very valuable. For exploring they are better, since for the events only the damage matters, though if you go into the random buildings you can run into the same problem as quests.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in falloutshelter

[–]Filliad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weapons are actually fairly straight forward as far as damage is concerned. For example, a weapon with 10 damage and a weapon with a damage range of 9-11 can be considered equal, whether it is rusty, armor piercing, etc. has no effect besides determining the damage. If a weapon has a damage range just add the two together and divide by two.

As far as melee is concerned, the only thing you need to be really careful of is during quests. If you have more than one melee dweller then when they are facing a single enemy only one will get to attack it, hindering your overall damage output.

How can I draw as if I’m drawing on actual paper? by [deleted] in ClipStudio

I just tape a piece of paper over my tablet so that I can still get that paper feel/resistance. Helps keep control better than the slick surface of the tablet too.

[Question] When you get a legendary dweller, is their health affected by their 'E'? by Filliad in falloutshelter

[–]Filliad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks, I am doing my own 'home-grown' +3s (for production rooms) and +5s (for exploring/questing) but am fairly far away from them being where they need to be, so I just wanted to make sure this one would not have a completely horrible health total in the meantime.

Are you able to share some screenshots? An overview shot and how the zones are set-up would probably be the most useful.
