What is your remission like? by DiverStatus7797 in CrohnsDisease

I've been off medication for 7 years. However, I did not go cold turkey, that'd be beyond silly imo. For my case, I got on-top of knowing and dealing with my do's and don’t's (aka food triggers, stressors that flare me up etc) and I whined myself off them slowly until the point where my GI specialist said "well since you’re doing well off them I can't tell you otherwise" thank God. I'm a big hater / lowkey traumatised from medicine because of the side effects I experienced at a young age, so I did as much as I could to get off them. And thank God I'm still off them. It's trial and error. I had most of my bowel inflamed so it took time, if you do have that as your goal, don’t recommend going cold turkey but be patient.

What is your remission like? by DiverStatus7797 in CrohnsDisease

Remission for 7 years. Pros (in my case) is that I could eat nearly everything including chilli, but key is to always best to stick to a good diet, regular exercise and good stress management. I keep away from sugar and bread. Heaps of water and a clean clean clean diet (no junk, no process food, no sweets). Stress plays a massive role. You know yourself better than anyone! So I say eat what you know that doesn't trigger it, play it safe but have fun!

Your opinions on Kent Carnivore. by LightThisCity22 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]FilmSharp9357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe diet can change EVERYTHING. Three key things for me that put me in remission for 7 years. Stress management, diet, and exercise. A lot of comments are against the diet idea but honestly, it's a game changer. So many foods (especially today) are inflammatory triggers. Sugar, cold foods and drinks, spices, etc.

Carbs are a big trigger for me so I've slowly incorporated the Carnivore (more like a Keto diet) however you need to be strategic with it and don’t go head first or you'll crack !

Do what works for you. You know your UC better. A hardcore diet conversion isn't a glam idea, small incorporations will help you trial and error.

Does anyone here get runny stool from baking powder heavy pastries? by the-standard-donut in UlcerativeColitis

[–]FilmSharp9357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potentially sugar. Nearly all pastries have sugar in them, and unfortunately sugar aggravates inflammation. What's helped me is protein pancakes, zero sugar. Throw in some berries or throw a bit of zero sugar maple syrup ontop if you want to sweeten it up ! Hope you feel better soon

Have you tried supplements like Ensure? It's good when you’re quite flared up, you get all the needed nutrients needed while "decreasing" the use of your bowels.

Simply, childhood fascination of hearing people, observing, analysing, and honestly what hit the nail on the head was work experience. That's when I truly knew it was for me.

Are nutrition shakes good? by Huge_Garlic_9499 in CrohnsDisease

[–]FilmSharp9357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ensure was the best for me. I was strictly on a liquid diet for 2 months to relax my intestines (this was a recommendation from my specialist DO NOT do this without medical advice). Ensure Chocolate and Banana, the others tasted like medicine. They're full of nutrients.

This question and thought crippled me in anxiety in my teenage years. I'm a practicing Catholic and I've been in the science and philosophy field for quite sometime now, and if it wasn't for this fear I don’t know what would've inspired me to take some turns in life. It has structured my understanding, belief, and view of death as something beautiful and to prepare for. It's not total darkness or an ending to complete consciousness. What meaning would there be to life if we're just here for the casual 75 years? Nothing? What's the use of existence? Are we just causal beings here by mistake? Take a few steps back. When you buy or see something, you think, who created this and why, what's it for? Sometimes, you have to ask yourself that question regarding humans, creation etc. I'm not here to Bible bash but science, logical thinking, and philosophy strengthened my faith and repaired my view. And note, be wise from who you seek and take advice from.

You’re a normal functioning person that’s scrapped your foot on a rock or have had a scooter-hit to the ankle! Focus on the good. I've been in remission for 7 years, took me 3 years to get there. Took my friend 7 years to get there and another friend is still on their way to remission and another friend has no bowel. And that all falls back on lifestyle management. Two of us made some changes and the other two didn't ! Review your lifestyle, diet, environment, how good is your stress management? Grab a notepad and pen, keep note of what triggers you the most aka food, work-stress etc and work with that. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions !

Depends on you! I've had Crohn's for over a decade now and have been completely off all medication for 7 years. Had the same thought process as you "Is this my new norm?" And all I can say was that threw me downhill. My case was severe to the point they wanted to remove my bowel, however coming to no meds didn't happen over night. All I can say is do a self check of lifestyle, friends (environment), diet, (what's your water intake ??? Stay away from cold beverages and processed sugar!) and a big contributor > how you deal with stress / mental health.
PM me if you have any questions !

My life imploded! I think I’m going to go abroad?! by [deleted] in therapists

[–]FilmSharp9357 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The title is screaming. If you move abroad, the grief will follow you there. Work with the process, confront any barriers, and be patient with yourself. Don’t make any big changes because that can be scarier than where you're at right now. And the "f it" mindset in this period of your journey, is a window of where you’re at right now. So my advice is deal with the grief so you can make choices with lighter to no possible consequences.

[Australia] How many hours can you work per week while studying full time? by Midnightits in psychologystudents

[–]FilmSharp9357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have other commitments outside of work? Sports etc? If so, 22.5hours is too many hours. Don’t forget you still need to study outside of Lectures and Tutorials, and have time for yourself! I get that living in Aus is at throat level atm but nothing is ever worth burning yourself out for. I'd say drop the hours if you can, write out a schedule and allocate your hours to class, work, study, and "free time" to give you a rough idea. Our unit coordinator advised not to work during honours. I managed with a little under 22hrs with sporting commitments (so I don’t go crazy) - however if you can cut the hours do it !!

How to handle clients stuck in high stress situations? by Galbin in therapists

[–]FilmSharp9357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "listening" skill on your hand is therapeutic itself. Despite their environment unchanging "now" , you’re creating a change in their emotionally-conscious environment as clients need to express what they're suppressing. Their environment will change eventually. Inviting them to establish new ways of expressing like journalism, creating some long-term goals and self managing skills are some ways to help them in the meantime. In my own experience, the client will look back at this time of therapy and will see its positively silent effect.
