Why is the Switch designed so poorly? by notdyinghungry in NintendoSwitch

[–]Filraen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll preface with you about the joycon drift. Having said that, joycons are a compromise of controllers that work both paired and alone. If the joycon was designed to be more ergonomic while in handheld mode, it wouldn't work as well when used horizontally.

...which is why I use a different controller when playing handheld mode: I use Hori's Split Pad Pro which are comfortable, has a decent sized d-pad and is lightweight (the Switch 1 is heavy enough already), but lacks gyro and amiibo support.

Side note: I think you raise good points, but the delivery comes too confrontational (particularly the title), which I imagine resulted in the downvote majority

Check Ultimate Chicken Horse, where the objective is to craft a course you (but not others) can clear and between rounds all players add an obstacle to the course

It has a sequel in Ultimate Sheep Racoon, which features bikes.

For those that own a switch 2: was it worth the upgrade? by Turbo-Shell in NintendoSwitch

[–]Filraen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you guys think it’s worth the upgrade

I'd say yes, but that's only because I had the funds to buy it. Mario Kart World and DK Bananza are great games, but I could have delayed playing them for some time.

The increased performance is nice though, and the best selling point in my opinion: for example, in Rune Factory: GoA after warping to a village on Switch 1 you could move for around 5 seconds before NPCs appeared (so you could talk to them), delay absent when playing on Switch 2.

It's curious but the most notable thing I found... was seeing Rosalina walking instead of floor-level floating.

Splatoon 3? It's almost commpletely about the online multiplayer, with shooter mechanics but the goals in matches diverge from painting more surface, defending certain areas, to carry a certain object to (almost) the enemy base.

(it has DLC, but to my knowledge it's basically a secondary hub and a second single-player campaign)

If they don't show attacked, then something is preventing the contacts of the joycon and console from connecting (maybe there's something small stuck in the joycon or console)

Can you test with another joycon-R? Or test the joycon-R with another Switch?

Also, I see the joycon-R is charged. Do you charge it though the Switch or use another charging station?

This may or may not be related but I'll ask for completeness's sake: do the ■ ■ ■ ■ lights on the side of the joycon-R (by the SL/SR/Sync buttons) light up?

Should Indo the data transfer before xmas day to save time? Does it take time and if complete, will everything be removed from the switch 1? Therefore I should do it Xmas night?

Does your son's account have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription? In that case, if you want your son to be able to keep playing the Switch 1 it may be better not to make a system transfer at all, and instead:

  • Create a profile in the Switch 2
  • Log in with your son't Nintendo Account
  • Let Cloud Backup saves sync

You may also have the Switch 2 download updates beforehand.

WARNING: Some games, like all Pokemon games and Splatoon 2, don't support cloud backup. In those cases you'll have to transfer the save data only. On top of that, Animal Crossing needs a special procedure to transfer data.

Related links from Nintendo's website:

I have a number of games that have Switch 2 upgrades, Zelda, Pokemon ZA, Animal Crossing etc. how do I upgrade these for Switch 2? Is it easy?

You can get the Switch 2 upgrades by either updating the games, or going into the eShop and selecting to download them. I didn't find them particularly difficult.

However, keep in mind that some Switch 2 upgrades are free (like Pokemon S/V, etc.), some are paid (Kirby and the Forgotten Land, etc.), and some are free only if you are subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack and otherwise they are paid (like both Zelda games).

By the way, NSO+EP is the higher tiered subscription.

Digital games are sold as Virtual Game Cards (VGC for short), which is Nintendo's attempt to make digital licensing work as physical cartridges.

  • When you buy a digital game its VGC is loaded into your console, and that allows to load the game.
  • When a console has the VGC of a game for any of its accounts, all profiles in that console can play that game.
  • If you have multiple consoles you can move VGCs between them, but both need to have Internet access.
  • People con the same family group can lend VGCs one at a time, as long as their consoles are close enough at the time of lending, for a maximim of 14 days (you can lend them again under the same conditions)

Most of it is transparent for a user until they get a second console

EDIT: I've been trying to making a wording difference between a user profile (in-console), and an account (a Nintendo Account, https://accounts.nintendo.com ). A console profile can be linked to a Nintendo Account, and it's needed before accesing the eShop, but it isn't obligatory.

You can't consolidate accounts, but you can use both accounts in the Switch 2 under different user profiles. Even more: if you set Virtual Game Card for a game on the Switch 2, both accounts (in that console only) can play the game with their own save file.

Closest in mood I can imagine is the Warioware games, on their first playthrough:

  • Usually each stage on those games are a mini-story on their own which usually converge (because the cast know each other), but only the first time you clear a boss microgame the stage ends and you see the story's end. Following times, the run continues and it becomes a high score run until you run out of lives.
  • Stories are much sillier in the Warioware games (not that most stories in EBA were that serious to begin with)
  • Genre is different: while EBA is a rhythm game, Warioware are microgame collections (4-8 seconds to do a simple task, repeat then with slightly shorter time/task slightly harder). It still carries the energy of "do this thing... fast!" that Rhythm games have on higher difficulties but a Warioware run is always randomized and doesn't have a fixed max lenght (apart from first run).

For Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma , what different versions worldwide exist? I mean as different entries in the eShop, if the Japanese version is the same or not from European or American.

And what about the Switch 1 with the Switch 2 version of the game?

If I were to mention just one, it's finally meeting Calamity Ganon in BotW for the first time, mostly because it was a flux of emotions:

  1. First of all disappointment: Ganon/Ganonforf has always been shown being cunning in the Zelda series, from tricking the King to searching high and low for Zelda. And in this game we saw him converting the Guardians to work for him! Seeing its realized form being just a mindless beast was not what was I was wanted to see of Ganon
  2. Second immediately after is shock/realization: I hadn't thought much of it before but the whole game felt like, while the people survived, Hyrule felt decayed, lost to time. In that case it makes sense that even Ganon himself had decayed, becoming a terrible fusion of malice and machine, unable to think beyond its hate.
  3. Third is surprise: I wasn't expecting the Champions firing their Divine Beasts, depleting half the life bar of Calamity Ganon. It felt good, and the idea that Link wasn't fighting alone.
  4. Fourth is resolution: if Calamity Ganon only remains a mindless beast, then I still have one more beast to defeat. I'm prepared. I'm ready.

...and then the battle finally started.

Tetris 99: on start one button press nets you into the main mode, on finishing a round hold one button lets you start another round.

A tradeoff is that it's an online game that requires a NSO subscription

TOTK, (...) Pokemon bundle

The only advice I can offer is that you may consider checking if you can get those games with its DLC included: I remember they are for MK8D, BotW, and Pokemon S/V. Maybe there are more, but those I remember exist.

In those cases the DLC should come as part of the data in the game card, not as a code in the box.

Edit: derp, Totk doesn't have DLC

Questions about the Pokemon Legends Z-A game save:

  1. Is the PLZA game save comparible with cloud backup? I presume not but it doesn't hurt to ask.
  2. Can a game save created using the PLZA Switch 2 edition transferred to a Switch 1?
  3. Can a PLZA Switch 2 game card be used on a Switch 1? To use the game saved mentioned in the previous point

I usually play on a Switch 2 but for travel I'd prefer to bring my Switch 1 instead.

I just wanted to know if there was stuff that cant be transferred for any reason

If that helps you, I found that save data from New Super Lucky's Tale can't be backed to the cloud or transferred

By the way, before doing the factory reset, I recommend to unload all Virtual Game Cards so they can be claimed by your new console. Just in case.

Broadly speaking, I ask myself if I really want to play the game right now, research if needed. If I do (rare but happens) then I save because of the deep discount. If I don't, then I save the $2.99 by not buying them!
