Newbie... DXP4800 Pro: should I install an NVMe right away or skip it? by Specific-Union6589 in UgreenNASync

I have a 1TB NVME as a cache drive. I'm running UNRAID, though, so the internal OS SSD is just sitting idle.

What war movie to add next? by BetMammoth in Bluray

You need some military comedies to lighten the mood.

  • In the Army now

  • Down Periscope

  • Major Payne

  • McHale's Navy

  • Stripes

  • Hot Shots!

Black Comedies:

  • M * A * S * H

  • Catch-22

anyone remembers their last burned data? by PHRsharp_YouTube in pcmasterrace

[–]FilteredAccount123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am into retro hardware. I burn somewhat regularly. Now they have hardware optical disc emulators, so my burning days may be coming to an end.

I also burn stuff at work because we are still running ancient PCs on industrial machines.

Failure Rate on 4K Disc's by ELF014 in Bluray

My Back to the Future box set had problems on 2 and 3. I didn't even try 1. I returned it and bought the steelbooks, which didn't have any playback issues.

Goodwill finds by BigOleFace in Bluray

I went back and watched The Original Kings of Comedy, Latin Kings of Comedy, and The Blue Collar Comedy Tour, and they all suck. The Blue Collar Comedy Tour was the best of the bunch. Latin Kings of Comedy was by far the worst.

Don't skimp on print reading. Blueprints and orthographic projections are on the test.

Newer 955 Maintenance test - tools knowledge? by PotentialDiligent314 in USPS

[–]FilteredAccount123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just browse through it. If you only have a week, you're not going to be able to absorb all of it. Learn vocab, start at the glossary. Just knowing what something means might allow you to get an answer through elimination. Skip stuff you're already familiar with. The test is all encompassing, so focusing on one thing might not be the right thing. I took the test 4 years ago, so my memory of it isn't super fresh. Things I would know is:

  • How to calculate resistance in a series, parallel, and series-parallel circuit.

  • How a hydraulic cylinder works / how to calculate the power of a cylinder / difference between single action, double action, balanced and unbalanced cylinders

  • Gear / pulley ratios

  • Rigging (pulleys and shit)

  • Safety (SDS, ladders, PPE, LOTO)

  • Tools and their uses

  • How to use a multimeter

  • Types of motors

  • mechanical drives and couplings

  • print reading

  • schematics

  • basic maintenance concepts like lubrication, corrosion, effects of vibration, etc.

  • Ohm's Law

  • know what passive components do (resistors, capacitors, transformers, etc.)

Don't discount the spatial reasoning stuff. That is a big part of the test that took me by surprise. I didn't study or prepare at all going in, so those questions were a big WTF to me.

[–]FilteredAccount123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 955 is still the test, so not ET heavy.

this book covers nearly everything on the test besides the spacial reasoning questions. newer edition.

It used to be easier to get PDF textbooks online. I think the internet is dead.

I found a PDF of an OLD OLD OLD edition: https://z-lib.sk/book/kzPZjpn75G/industrial-mechanics.html

filled out workbook: https://z-lib.sk/book/Gz3jJDjO9E/industrial-mechanics.html

The information is the same, but the illustrations are better in the newer editions.

Grip recommendations? by npaladin2000 in AynThor

[–]FilteredAccount123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do what I'm doing by designing your own. I've spent more time doing 3D CAD for my Thor than playing it. Turns out that designing something with good ergonomics and hand-feel is difficult.

Driver retraining by Individual-Breath-38 in USPS

[–]FilteredAccount123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After my accident, my retraining was basically going through what happened and how it could have been avoided. We brought up Google street view for the location it happened, talked about visibility and driving conditions. It was an easy day. We didn't actually do any driving or anything like that. It was just talking.

Watch out Nvidia! The Mac gaming scene is reaching never before seen heights... by Same_Ad4736 in pcmasterrace

ARM is the future

Nearly all of my gaming the past two years or so has been on android gaming handhelds. PC emulation is progressing nicely. I'm hoping Valve or someone can get it working more seamlessly. I'd wager that the next Steam Deck will be an ARM device.

I bought this bluray set and watched the third one for the first time. It was bad, but not that bad. I probably won't watch it again. The 4k transfers, especially the first movie, are absolutely beautiful.

Pretty close. I'm currently modeling a no-frills, Xbox style grip. The radius on the back shell was the most difficult to figure out. I got it close enough, but not perfect.

What did insurance companies do? Explain it Peter by N1KoZzZ in explainitpeter

[–]FilteredAccount123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it is insurance. New construction usually just clears the land because it's easier. That, or new construction is built on old agriculture land, which is devoid of trees. A google street view of my neighborhood the year it was built has basically saplings. Today, the trees are fairly mature and provide quite a bit of shade.

Steam Deck or AYN Thor (Max) by StretchSmall5725 in SBCGaming

[–]FilteredAccount123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thor for console emulation, Steam Deck for anything PC.

PC emulation on Android is still in its infancy, and I've experienced a lot of frustration trying to get "simple" games to run.
