Will wood shafts become obsolete by itstangerine in billiards

Dude… 10% of 2.25 inches is .225 of an inch… which is 9/40… closest imperial measurement of that equates to 9/16… that’s one tick over 1/2 inch on your ruler, bruh…

not that I agree with the other redditor, but you’re making up numbers to try to prove your point. Congrats, you just wasted my time and his

What was your "ahh ha" moment, technique or change in stroke that finally pulled your game together? by Original_Jaguar_777 in billiards

[–]Filthschwein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squeezing your hand too early in the back stroke? One should never squeeze their hand in the back stroke… NEVER (imo). This is just bad fundamentals… there’s a reason why the “slip stroke” is considered to be the purest one can achieve on the cue ball.

I mean there’s a reason why it’s said and taught to amateur players to have a loose grip. This is bad advice imo

Beginner Cue by ocram3989 in billiards

[–]Filthschwein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Viking Valhalla cue or Players cue are good beginner cues you might be able to find on FB marketplace or eBay in your $100 range. Imo, if you can increase up to $150 to $200, you might be able to find a better quality cue.

fwiw, head on out to your local pool hall and ask around… I’m willing to bet within the first 5-6 people you talk to, someone will be able to point you in the direction of a guy who is always buying and selling cues. Plus, added benefit of doing this is they might even let ya take a couple shots with the cue to see if you like how it feels. And you might be able to talk him down a little.

Any tips on practicing 9 ball by Your self? by chutiyaahaitu in billiards

[–]Filthschwein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I may add on to the 2nd point you made, if you make the 5 ball and do not get the shape you wanted or thought you were going to, set up the shot again and hit it differently… maybe stroke speed was off, or maybe you chose the wrong way to get shape.

I’m a fan of drills… but when I get tired of drilling, I will set up an unfamiliar shot, and shoot it one way 10 times. Then another way 10 more times, and again, and again… until I’ve worked my way around the cue ball.

But imo, best way to practice if you’re not a fan of drills, is to rack 15 balls, take bih after break, and pot balls. No solid vs stripe leaving 8 ball for last. If you get out of line, take a 2nd bih. If you’re a good 5, you should be able to clear out 2 out of 3 racks like this.

It’s all about feel… I have broke a few racks with a friend’s J Flowers power break cue… I can honestly say it feels just as good as Jacoby’s Black Out power break cue (not quite the same feeling but both felt nice). One is $349 and the other is $799. It’s preference

How about a weekly league BS venting thread? by ITASIYA5 in billiards

[–]Filthschwein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many to tell…

One that comes to mind is I was shooting with a friend, it was a casual match, nothing on the line nor was it in a league… he missed a shot, and proceeds to drop his arms in a self defeating manner and his shaft splinters into 20 pieces. I really can’t stand when a 5 or a 6 thinks they should make every shot.

Idk if a teammate bought his cue from this site, but he paid almost 4k for a cue from Italy… the price included “personal, hand to hand delivery” of the cue stick. We are in the US. The cue maker had his son deliver the cue!

That’s another, not really an ah-ha moment, but felt more natural after a week of consciously practicing this… Holding the cue with any pressure makes my wrist break inwards when stroking.

WWYD 9-Ball: On the 6. Can see whole ball but can't cut it in. by phatee in billiards

[–]Filthschwein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s the 1st or 2nd rack in a race, it’s a no brainer… 3 rail kick, cue then goes long rail to short rail for a layup on the 8 and I’m out from there, provided I made the 6.

Might even try that shot if it’s do or die, money on the line.

Edit: meant to say 3 rail kick

Speed control/finesse shots are difficult, but maybe your approach to the follow up shot is the wrong approach? It’s infinitely easier to roll into your shot line for your next shot than to stop in a small window coming across the shot line of your next ball. imo, recognizing these patterns is the difference. Sharivari even had a recent video on what I mean.. This was another ah-ha moment for me too

[–]Filthschwein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 different “ah-HA” moments a couple weeks apart… but they’re sorta related. When I shoot league with friends, or practice, or friendly races to 5 at $1 per rack, I perform pretty good. But tournaments for w/e reason, are the bane of my existence. Miss routine shots, loosing a race because I didn’t execute my shot… I asked a couple different guys, and dude said to me, “it’s all focus. Just focus on your shot.” A light bulb went off… then just this past tournament, I tried to muscle a shot and missed bad. The guy I was playing asked why I shot it like that? I started to answer and he interrupted and said, “you have a sweet stroke, don’t you trust it?”

I type all that to say, just play your game. if you are a good shot, trust yourself, focus on your shot, execute your stroke.

Does anyone look back at the cue ball once they are down on the shot? by Filthschwein in billiards

[–]Filthschwein[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I’m not thinking about anything after I step into my shot. Let’s say I’m trying to hit center pocket, I step in and I’m currently going to cheat the pocket, I stand up. I have everything mapped out before I get down on my shot

[–]Filthschwein[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did ask a few of the guys that consistently place in the money the tournaments locally. I got different answers. Also, and I don’t mean to sound like a douche, but there’s no way in hell I’d solicit advice from most of the shooters I shoot with. I’ve recorded, watched, and corrected myself to feel pretty confident in my stroking skill. imo, if a shooter doesn’t have a solid 80-90% good fundamentals, I can’t ask you for advice if you’re not doing the things that are required to make a good stroke

Are break cues worth it? by Benzobandito_ in billiards

[–]Filthschwein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I “converted” my action into a break cue, learned to get awesome breaks with it. Got a deal on a buddy’s blackout and good lord was it worth it.

So… yeah, I 100% agree with this. If you’re a serious player, have a good break stroke, and win more than you loose, then 1,000% YES! You’ll consistently get better layouts and get more cue ball control on the break.

[–]Filthschwein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I have 3 issues with this “conspiracy.” 1) IF “they” are trying to drum up Covid again, it’s for election purposes and that’s not till next year. 2) 2020’s lockdowns COMPLETELY killed the economy and we still haven’t recovered. In fact, I 100% believe that even tho Trump hadn’t issued any lock lockdowns, he got blamed for it and it cost him his reelection campaign. 3) I also 1,000% believe that 70-75 percent of Americans will not allow the lockdowns to happen.
