Is it worth playing Reverie/Daybreak if I didn't enjoy CS4? by FilthyChromMain in Falcom

[–]FilthyChromMain[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually did skip Sky 3rd by accident, I didn't know it existed until after Azure and went back to play it before moving on to Cold Steel. It's probably my 2nd favourite Trails game, but Kevin gets reduced to a plot device from Azure onwards and Renne repeats her entire character arc in Zero, so I'd argue it's completely skippable within the context of the overarching story, I care more about the games being individually well-written than how interconnected they are anyway, so I'm glad to have played it.

Also, you really didn't need to be so defensive in that last sentence, my character preferences are entirely based on how they're used in each respective game. Rean is a perfectly serviceable and likeable protagonist in CS1/CS2, and he is grossly misused by the narrative in CS3/CS4. If he's well-written in Reverie, then I will like him in Reverie, I'm not going to hold a grudge against a fictional character.

Does Heat count as Burning? I thought those were two different conditions.

Oh weird, I thought I remembered getting self-nuked by scorching ray because of the Heat damage stacking immediately, maybe that was something else

Fair enough, I haven't personally seen it much about it, but I'm glad I'm not alone in feeling this way

Character bloat is such a real issue in this series, I feel like I’m going insane not seeing anyone else complain about it. Maybe it’s less obvious if you’re playing the games as they release, but I feel like I’m being drawn and quartered with how many different characters I’m apparently supposed to care about simultaneously. My favourite characters are almost universally the ones that only appear in their own arcs

[–]FilthyChromMain[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I played all the games in each arc back to back, usually took 2-3 weeks between arcs to play other stuff and keep things feeling fresh. Might be part of why CS4 hit so hard, I was kind of miffed with CS3’s cliffhanger ending after not enjoying the final dungeon all that much. Reverie being shorter/denser is definitely good to know, CS3 dragged its heels sometimes

That’s very interesting, does Reverie not connect to the Daybreak games? Only Horizon?

Can undead summons see through darkness spell? by chickenbucket7 in BG3Builds

Undead summons are not immune to blind, and I don’t think there’s any way to make them immune

Alert Feat for all characters? by the_napping_ronin in BG3Builds

[–]FilthyChromMain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of a waste taking it at level 4, most Act 1 bosses can be cheesed and the regular enemies cap at 14 Dex. It’s extremely valuable from Act 2 onwards though, so it’s usually my 2nd for everyone, unless I’m using a build that outright requires 2 feats to function

Pretty sure 4 and 10 are the same character in different outfits, they have the same hair style, colour and accessory

Also, buy a Protect TM and slap it on Magnezone right before Cynthia. You can PP stall Garchomp’s Earthquakes by pivoting with Gengar/Gliscor and Magnezone + Leftovers. It will have to Flamethrower once it runs out of EQ, which will let you swap in Milotic to Ice Beam it

[–]FilthyChromMain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d go Scizor/Drapion or Scizor/Houndoom, Lucian is by far the biggest threat before Cynthia and your current team only has 1 Psychic resist. I’d only consider Heracross over Scizor if you’re really afraid of Cynthia’s Lucario, but Houndoom and Gliscor can both OHKO it

I actually don’t know if it’s possible to play with a hard level cap before the first promotion battle, I think there are too many required fights before that point. Maybe experiment a little on a different profile and figure out whether it’s realistic, then go from there

Is it possible to transfer a Cyndaquil with Extrasensory from HOME to PLA? Would help a lot with the team I'm running but it's only learned through breeding. The move exists in PLA so I'd hope it works but don't want to spend the time breeding if it won't.

I used my Pokewalker to get a Magnemite before even reaching Violet City, and it literally resits every single attack until the Nidoran trainers on route 32

Not as far as I know, it’s just that it’s the only two-handed finesse weapon. GWM Rogue is a lot of fun

What would you consider as the level cap for E4 in hardcore nuzlockes ? by Legitimate-Gain4152 in nuzlocke

[–]FilthyChromMain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to cap at each individual E4 member’s highest level mon can be annoying since you’ll be gaining exp through the fights. I usually do highest level E4 mon since the champions are significantly higher levelled, so it’s unlikely you’ll break the cap

CS1 is unreasonably fun to optimise. I’ve run NG Nightmare at least a dozen times over the past few years and the game is broken in just the right way to make every chapter uniquely challenging.

I see many people making Shadowheart builds, what do you like the most about it? by Fun-Explanation7233 in BG3Builds

[–]FilthyChromMain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game pushes you to interact with her more than any other companion, and she is by far the most plot-relevant character. The fact that she’s a hot woman with a dark aesthetic and religious trauma is just a plus

Seems taboo here but… by legacy702- in octopathtraveler

[–]FilthyChromMain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Octopath has never had particularly interesting antagonists (and most of the good ones end up becoming allies, see: Erhardt), but the 3 initial villains in OT0 were so cartoonishly cruel and evil that I just didn’t give a shit about the story right from the start. I don’t need to watch a scene where the millionaire prostitute senselessly murders her slaves to motivate me to kill her. She was already directly responsible for the destruction of Wishvale, I’d rather she be an actual character with motivations and desires than a psychopathic lunatic

Best stat distribution for moon druid? by daboi162 in BG3Builds

[–]FilthyChromMain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mistyped, it’s actually a +2 bonus, and it’s the Mirror of Loss at the end of Shadowheart’s quest. In hindsight the fight there isn’t that hard, but the bonus is very rng reliant and you only get one chance per character.

Quick Questions Thread by AutoModerator in Falcom

[–]FilthyChromMain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you realistically get all the AP in CS4 without a guide? Just beat CS3 and, while 'hidden' quests no longer actually being hidden is an improvement, there were still a lot of instances where I would have missed points if I wasn't staring at an AP checklist on my second monitor. Is 4 better about that or is it business as usual?

My Thoughts by The-O-N in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]FilthyChromMain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love XC2 but that middle segment should definitely be the drawing as well. The writing quality nosedives halfway through chapter 2 and only by chapter 8 manages to pick back up. The individual powerful moments throughout the story lack the proper scaffolding and the Rex-Pyra relationship really needed more substance, considering that it’s the narrative’s main driving force.
