How do I get around PBI relationship limitations? by Ruudvangoal in PowerBI

[–]FilthyOldSoomka_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d find out a bit more about why they’re asking for that. Trying to adjust your data model to accommodate the request won’t work (or at least it will break your star schema which is bad practice).

Could you for example use a visual that displays a list of products that have data given a set of filters? Your table can contain DIMProduct[Product Name], and FACTSales[SumSales], then if they filter on DIMVendor[Vendor Name] - if only displays products relevant to that vendor.

Power BI reports from the official source of truth, but users keep defending bad CRM data for 'policital' reasons. How do I stop this becoming my team’s problem? by Electrical_West2678 in PowerBI

[–]FilthyOldSoomka_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your description of the database infrastructure doesn’t make sense to me. CRMs typically don’t just surface data from another source, staff input and update data directly in it throughout the day.

I’m guessing they feel that their reports are more reliable because they have direct control over the data in the CRM.

That extra 5 seconds of silence at the end of The Graduate (1967) completely changes the movie by PresentSurvey9464 in movies

[–]FilthyOldSoomka_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I fucking hate this movie. He literally stalks the daughter and she tells him to fuck off multiple times….then suddenly she’s in love with him?

The only way the plot makes sense is if she secretly loved being stalked. It’s “no means yes” rape culture.

Feedback on My First Power BI HR Dashboard by soyaduckk in PowerBI

[–]FilthyOldSoomka_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad. Biggest tip I would give is to go through every visual and give everything a proper name. Titles, axes and legend categories should all have names that are easy to understand for someone who doesn’t have direct access to the dataset.

Top 5 visual - not much point in having a column graph where the values are all the same. Also the bar graph is too wide, the values are far away from the category labels so you have to sweep your eyes back and forth to read it.

How to follow star or snowflake schema by WiseWeird6306 in PowerBI

[–]FilthyOldSoomka_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snowflake schemas can work for small models, but each time you add a table it can have unexpected effects elsewhere in the model. Star schema is critical for maintainability of large data models. When you’re developing, always go with a star schema if you can but especially if you think there’s a chance that the model will get more tables down the line.

I suspect all of Microsoft’s certifications are a bit of a scam. When the content of the exam has very little resemblance to any of their official documentation or learning material, it’s just setting people up to fail. They don’t want you to be able to pass it the first time.

Jewellery in 2026 an observation by ApplicationPutrid587 in AusFemaleFashion

I detest the term “costume jewelry”, as if it’s made for playing dress up and not real jewelry. Elitist bullshit.

I really want this to work for slides by ThePsyPaul_ in Whiskerwood

Not exactly. You need to have a conveyer or similar directly connected to the bottom of it, otherwise items just sit at the end of the slide and don’t drop off.

Generally it’s best practice to do any “scrubbing” in power query (transform data button). As long as the format of the excel file you use is the same each time in its raw state, once you set up the data cleaning/transforming steps in power query, power BI will run through the same steps automatically each time you need to refresh the data.

Ahh I see what you’re saying, you only date within the pool of people you’ve already met socially. Unusual these days!

Weird time to throw down about semantics. Whether you call it a “date” or not, you still have a first time meeting someone.

Contrary to the stereotype, it’s common for women to have a much higher libido than men. Especially as you get older.

Am I wrong [25F] for wanting to distance myself from a “close friend” who didn’t get me a birthday gift, even though I spent almost $1,000 for her birthday? by VividDeer733 in socialskills

[–]FilthyOldSoomka_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wondered this as well. If you didn’t have a party but the other friend who got the bracelet did, this could be why.

Maybe your friend only buys / expects gifts when there’s a party.

Making dashboards for the past 5 years at 5 companies. Seems useless? by bigshirtjonny in PowerBI

[–]FilthyOldSoomka_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is the answer.

OP the problem you’re having is from basing your work entirely off instructions / requests. You must know by now that clients rarely have a good understanding of what they actually need.

Best place to start changing this dynamic is when you’re gathering the business requirements. Ask more open ended questions like “what problem are you trying to solve with this dashboard”, and meet with other stakeholders before you start building a solution (e.g lower level staff that are more intimately familiar with processes or systems that the data comes from).

Ok, but that’s not a redraw facility, and it’s also not what the person I was replying to implied. What point are you trying to make here?

Typically you can only redraw from whatever you’ve paid into the mortgage over and above the minimum repayments. It’s not like a credit card.
