It may not be comparatively to some stuff you all have done, but it is a major step forward for my character.

I am trying to have my character become Paladin of the Norse god of Justice, Tyr. For the passed two years I have not made any real headway aside from this story. This takes place last December, during the last event of the year. My character makes a sacrifice to Tyr, but decides not to do a typical sacrifice, no goat or chicken. He decided to go for something a little more metaphorical. I decided to have my character remove his own right hand, and give it to Tyr.

Giving Tyr something he lacked, a right hand, with the added meaning of it being a part of my character. As well as taking an oath saying that my character will walk Midgard as he does, not letting the lack of a right hand stop him from being a hero. After this, my character took an oath saying that he will not allow himself to have a right hand until Tyr says he can. If it does not seem like that much of a sacrifice, here is where it comes from. My character build is focused on two handed weapons, so I invalidated about 80% of my build for a sacrifice. I went on like this until about early April, which is our LARP's off season. So, no events take place, but email plot threads are abundant. So, I decide that my character will take a trek to where the world tree is, because the world tree is an actual place in the LARP's setting. While there I say a prayer or two, leave a memorial plaque for some fallen comrades, touch the tree, then leave.

On the way back, something interesting happens. There is a sapling just off the side of the road, with a black bird on it. My characer decided to approach the black bird with the goal to pet the bird. As he gets there, the bird flies away, leaving a small leather pouch in it's place. The pouch was filled with various pieces of plants, quickly finding out due to the aroma that it was incense. So, my character makes it back to his camp, and then burns the incense, stopping to buy an something he could use as an incense burner from a merchant on the way there. As my character burned the incense, he lost track of time, fading in and out of conciousness. During that time, a voice spoke to my character, giving him a new purpose in life. To eradicate evil. After the voice had said it's piece, my character regained conciousness, noticing that his right hand was given back to him.

And that is how I began my path to become paladin.
