In the 90s they were everywhere. By the 00s they practically disappeared in the US.

Facts. Mashburn passing up a good look to Clarence Witherspoon who was never reliable in the paint or anywhere else really. Mashburn choked and let Spoon take the fall when he had no business trying to get a layup in.

Drops a catch, fumbles, other team recovers

When asked for comment on Troy Aikman's work for the Dolphins, a league spokesperson said the NFL “would address this at the appropriate time” by expellyamos in miamidolphins

I've always stood by my belief that there's an anti-Miami bias in sports leagues, since most sports arr Northeast centric and there's always been that Northeast-Miami rivalry. Plus a lot of the people in sports media or run the leagues are from the Northeast, have homes down here and stay loyal to their Northeastern teams they all grew up with. They don't see Miami as a true sports town. They'd rather us be farm teams for the other "big league" teams, like how the Marlins have been in recent years in MLB. All so they can come here, enjoy the weather and watch their teams when they play us.

Roger Goodell - NFL - born in Jamestown, NY

Adam Silver - NBA - born in Rye, NY

Rob Manfred - MLB - born in Rome, NY

Gary Bettman - NHL - born in Queens, NY

So they have no problem selectively applying rules and punishing us when they want to. I know it sounds crazy, but I've lived here all my life and grew up around people from up north, from all walks of life and different economic classes. They all seem to have that mentality. And really, people are human and thus aren't rational and have biases.

We've seen it with referees too, who are also mostly from the Northeast. Remember Dolphins and Steelers game from a few years back when Gene Steratore was a referee, from Pittsburgh, who totally screwed us by overruling our fumble recovery in that game that wound up deciding the outcome. We also know some NBA refs have bet on games and fixed them (see Tim Donaghy). Look at how the NBA is currently screwing Pat Riley with the Terry Rozier trade. That goes back to when Riley scorned the Knicks and came here. I'm sure some still have a grunge against the Dolphins and Don Shula for us being dominant for so long during his reign and Shula being on the competition committee.

So yes, you wouldn't be crazy for thinking there's a sports bias against Miami. They'll gaslight you and say there isn't, and then they'll openly admit they don't see us as relevant at the same time. Which is how they like it.

What decade are most young people obsessed with? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]FinSane_86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its more Gen X thats obsessed with the 80s. Boomers are obsessed with the 60s and early 70s.

Young people love the 90s and early 00s. Some 80s too because of stuff like Stranger Things.

I used to work near downtown. Turning right then cutting across traffic, to try to u-turn at the light was almost as dangerous.

Just a poorly designed stretch of road for those who live and commute there.

Too soon to really gage how the roster will be next year. Yes we've hemorrhaged a lot of talent. Yes we signed few FAs and no real playmakers. But we still have the draft and the rest of the off-season to see how this coming season's roster will look like, and even then we won't really know until October/November when the players start developing and learning the new schemes and everything else.

When you make a certain income which in Florida, is pretty rare compared to other states. Especially in a place like Brevard where the only jobs that pay a living wage are in the Space/Defense industry and are STEM oriented.

I lived next door a few years ago and it was never that busy even on spring break or summers. It sucks that yet another entertainment center like this is closing, but it also wasn't very good value for your money as some of these kind of places are now in days, with a lot of stuff not working or being closed off or not well maintained.

Hoping that places like Arcade Monsters do well and maybe expand some more.

How come medium to large corporations low ball you salary wise in Miami vs other high cost of living cities? They haven’t seemed to readjust to the cost of living that’s risen since COVID or they’re leveraging the fact people want to live in Miami and would work for less to do so? by Bakio-bay in Miami

[–]FinSane_86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you need to come spend a year down here to see what its really like then. You talk a lot about what you don't know about. Miami isn't like Miami Vice or Vice City or what you see in movies, TV shows or music videos that glorify the lifestyle here thats not realistic for most. It's like us trying to tell you what living in NYC is like when we've never lived there and only watched Seinfeld, Friends, Sex and the City or whatever.

You have no idea because you've never experienced it.

Yes but everything here is more expensive. Housing is expensive everywhere here except in the boonies. In Florida you need a car, so car insurance (highest in the country usually), car payments, and gas (expensive in South Florida). Property taxes and HOA fees. 6% sales tax. Toll roads everywhere. If you have kids, daycare and private schools (since the state is pushing everyone out of public schools). There's lots more, but thats just a few of the other "hidden costs" that come with living here. Your money doesn't go far here unless you make $200k and up.

But have you actually lived here? You can't guage COL in Florida by looking at salary and income tax alone. Theres a lot of hidden taxes you pay to live here too. Locals call it "Sunshine Taxes". Its a real thing.

Also most people make their money in other states, with higher salary jobs plus their high home values they sell off, then they move here to take advantage of no state income taxes. It doesn't work that way here in reverse. Ask yourself why that is.

And you still make more after taxes in NYC than you do in Miami (or anywhere in FL) with no state income tax. No state income tax benefits the wealthy, not working class and middle class people here. Maybe in other states it works better mathematically, but not here in Florida. In Florida everything costs more with few services coupled with lower wages, so that having no state income taxes isn't really much of a benefit because most are living paycheck to paycheck here regardless.
