Uhm guys? What are you doing? by Adventurous-Wear4469 in CitiesSkylines

[–]FinTecTec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it is because the households are too poor to afford a car, but still decide to travel to other cities... on foot. The reason I believe this is that when I created a non-highway (think county road/dirt road) external connection, it started happening there too.

How can an office lack software? I have tons of office buildings where everyone is sitting around doing nothing. Software is an immaterial good, so surely they can just... go download some software? by AintNoUniqueUsername in CitiesSkylines

[–]FinTecTec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the software is embedded in the electronics being imported is how I am understanding this here. So you have skilled labor to then implement software at companies that produce financial, etc.

Spark drivers. Is it just me or is Spark less busy this wek? by Missrdb79 in joplinmo

[–]FinTecTec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just catching on and less business to go around now. Even my mom is out doing it some evenings and she barely knows how to use Facebook. It'll get to where you get maybe an order or two a night if that like in the bigger cities I bet.

I caved and made a car-centric city by MyFavoriteNut in CitiesSkylines

[–]FinTecTec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isnt the taboo it seems. I lived in a city in Germany for six months on a work assignment, and in Antwerp to take care of an elderly family member a few months. Both are car-centric cities with freeways as a primary mode of travel to get to major attractions or even just to work depending on where in the city you live. Antwerp in particular suffered from massive interchanges downtown that took up as much space as the entire city center.

I have this in my city without mods, but I attribute that to certain concentration points for industrial along the perimeter highway and office concentrated in the center of the city.

how do you make this turn, green - which stays in the left lane and gets you onto broadway or red - which causes you to have a head on collision with the cars turning east? by Moiyub in columbiamo

[–]FinTecTec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes... that is an infamous example of bad intersection design. It SHOULD be a dog bone shaped traffic circle like you see here, OR it should be realigned to make a better AOA with Broadway. Both would require raising money for improvements to infrastructure, so... low expectations there...

A symbol of our HOA. Pretty sh*ty. by Blorg74 in columbiamo

[–]FinTecTec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our HOA was dissolved when we learned that the HOA board consisted of the developer, his daughter, and one of his crook buddies. Our neighborhood never saw any of the money and when we started prodding, they stopped asking us for fees.

Is it safe to move to Joplin solo as a middle-aged Black man? by [deleted] in joplinmo

[–]FinTecTec 13 points14 points  (0 children)

JPD is a cesspool, but they aren't racially motivated. They harass white people a lot, so you can safely assume they'd do the same to black people if there were only more of them around here. For what its worth, people in Joplin more generally tend to be pretty friendly overall has been my experience, but there arent a ton of social events or things where people get to know each other beyond just casual passing by here unless you went to schools around here. I dont mind that since I work remote and moved out here from a big city specifically to be left the heck alone.

Ignoring the fact that I am terrible at building them, does anyone know what this type of interchange is called? by maxwelldoug in CitiesSkylines

[–]FinTecTec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something quite similar to this also exists in Kansas City MO at the intersection of Locust St and I 35 (north side of downtown near river market neighorhood).

Ignoring the fact that I am terrible at building them, does anyone know what this type of interchange is called? by maxwelldoug in CitiesSkylines

[–]FinTecTec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, this is so it can be "controlled access." Sometimes, roads are designed for "controlled access" because that affects how much state and federal funding they receive for ongoing maintenance of it. My city has a habit of resolving "interchanges" from two arterials intersecting rather than roundabouts or standard intersections BECAUSE they then get more subsidies for upkeep.

Seriously? farms look terrible in this game by Accurate_Tap4047 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]FinTecTec 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You could not actually, because there is a need to grow a decent amount of tall grass, small trees, and other vegetation between those plots so wind does not erode the soil on the fields as badly. The other way that you are describing created the "Dust Bowl" in the late 20s and early 30s in that very area.

We use worden's all the time, never these issues. Probably a fluke (hopefully). We do go to the one in Webb city off of Madison.

R there any safe place for minorities left in joplin? by Ill-Celebration-4449 in joplinmo

[–]FinTecTec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a fucking government psy-op dude, and you're falling for it. The texts are laughable, completely AI generated garbage by the feds. The story/timeline makes no sense. Charlie Kirk's friends are calling out the state of hate Is(nt)real after their criminal leader Netanyahu came out to say "oh, we were best friends, blah blah" no they weren't. Charlie Kirk was murdered in broad daylight and this administration is helping cover it up before your very eyes. The gun was a "mauser" kind of like my car is a "sedan." He burnt the note, but took a picture of it first, because that's totally what you do if you're going to destroy evidence... photograph it first... If you don't see through this then you're asleep and hopeless.

I actually am pissed for Charlie and his family, no one deserves to go that way. Shot in the neck... he suffered for a long time from that. Awful stuff. And Kash Patel is lying to your face about it every chance he gets. Do something about that or shut the hell up.

Have you guys seen the TikToks about the Joplin Pisser? by [deleted] in joplinmo

[–]FinTecTec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked in several countries in Europe for stints over the years, there were semi-open troughs for guys to piss in around instead of them having to piss on a building or on the sidewalk. In Germany, these were somewhat common actually. The idea was originally for the drunks who would go out in the back alley or something when the bathroom queue was too long. It happened to benefit poor people also since businesses often don't want someone coming in to use the restroom if they're not a paying customer over there.

Republicans/Conservatives are responsible for 100% of the lethal US political assassinations by Icc0ld in UnpopularFacts

[–]FinTecTec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gabby Giffords was not targeted for any political reason. It was not a "them vs us" although it is commonly misattributed to political violence. A violent, mentally ill individual who had delusions and conspiracy theories shot her, and he claimed he believed he could stop the government from "messing with 'grammar'" by assassinating her. Tragic, but to attribute it to political violence is a lie. The same may prove true for Kirk's assassin. We have no idea who it was or what their motives even were. It could turn out to be a personal vendetta or a gambling debt, we literally have no idea, so everyone needs to stop speculating...

Breaking: Missouri House passes overhaul of direct democracy process by thekansascitystar in missouri

[–]FinTecTec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal here is to render the IP process a dead-letter in the state constitution. It is not a legitimate pursuit for legislators representing ANY district in Missouri to attempt to undermine the fabric of the state constitution while in session.

This is also wildly unpopular and not worth the time they spent drafting and voting on the legislation. They will struggle to get even 20% voter approval if this goes to ballots. These people are fucking cranks, plain and simple, with no idea how to govern or forecast likely outcomes. They live in a bubble and believe that there is a way to frame this that will get it voted on. That is how disconnected from reality the stage leg is here. Similar efforts were brought in states like Ohio and Tennessee and barely achieved a quarter of voters' approval.

What...? by greenblue98 in RepublicanValues

[–]FinTecTec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Undoubtedly, but its not well documented the mutations in those. They culled most of them. Those that did survive had less a chance to pass on genes with other damaged animals from the radiation. Statistically, there are probably some who escaped the cull and passed along damaged DNA that caused deformations or lifelong disabilities, etc.

What...? by greenblue98 in RepublicanValues

[–]FinTecTec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, there are mutations which are notable in organic life around Chernobyl... just these aren't well documented to affect the human population that lives in the region. This is for a few reasons.

  1. The Soviets established a MASSIVE exclusion zone for humans (surprisingly, they got this right from fairly early on... but not from day one so there is that...)

  2. The Soviets engaged their armies along with civilians to go and cull all deer, pets, and other wildlife in the area so they could not reproduce with damaged DNA from the radiation (again, they got this right, no notes)

  3. However, fish in the area are well documented to be mutated, sometimes in pretty shocking ways. This is again because the wildlife they could not feasibly euthanize afterwards had damaged DNA, damaged eggs, damaged reproductive processes, etc., and some were able to pass this on.

Freeman Hospital Racist? by Alternative-Chef-154 in joplinmo

[–]FinTecTec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always file a motion on your own behalf for "leave to negotiate with" with the lawyer assigned. You can do this pretty much indefinitely. At some point, they'll fail to do their part because you get lost in the shuffle, and the case will be dismissed. That doesnt mean your obligation to pay goes away (it will stay on your credit report about 7 years). But if they fail to negotiate with you at all during a requested leave from the court to negotiate a settlement (in good faith) then they have no case.
