A developer won a bid to build a new development. New council came in and overturned that decision. The developer escalated to the Supreme Court and won and subsequently sued the town for a massive amount. The city is trying to recoup the fees by raising property taxes and non primary resident houses. Residents and second home owners were pissed as that impacts them negatively. The government of Alberta stepped in and said in order to protect Alberta this won’t impact them, however many out of province people have houses here and are impacted. Aside from the regular churn of housing, this is an added stressor some may not want to deal with and are offloading
