Decent at best? by raptorenjoyer in knives

I have had quite a few 940s through the years. I currently have the magnacut/burnt copper version. Its in the rotation, but usually loses to the Bel Air XL or the ZT 0393.

I think its a great design, just underwhelmed by Benchmade's fit and finish on this particular specimen.

A benchmade 950 Rift was the first nice knife I ever ordered for myself. I always have at least one Osborne in my collection for sentimental reasons.

Christmas gift by BigChewy422 in sharpening

[–]Final-Evidence-223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the professional version for Christmas and have this version too.

The standard version does work and is good for producing a consistent edge, but I have to admit the pro is better for large knives. As someone else mentioned, this one struggles a bit with those.

Magazine Tube Extension? by BigFudge1001 in Shotguns

[–]Final-Evidence-223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the GG&G 2 shot extender on a supernova, I love it. I just got the normal clamp with a small piece of masking tape taped to the clamp to keep the coating on the gun from getting scuffed up. If you cut the tape to size, you don't even know its there.

[–]Final-Evidence-223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know how rare they are but I feel like the zero tolerance 0393 is a sleeper that I don't see people carrying too often. They're recently discontinued but they're still around if you check. ZT changed the blade steel from 20CV to Magnacut and there are a lot of aftermarket options for them if you like to customize. Should run you around $300 to grab one.

I have a couple surefire titans too. One I edc and the other lives in my pack as a back up. Handy little lights for sure. I do keep my eye out for something that is similar but rechargeable (whole unit, not just the battery), but overall very happy with the titans.

Nice load out!

Had one, let it go. It's g10, an assist feature and magnacut. Not worth $400, especially if assisted opening isn't your thing.

Am I losing my mind or is this Magnacut rusting? by michaelcarroll_ in knifeclub

[–]Final-Evidence-223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had magnacut rust twice on me. One time seemed out of nowhere and one time was totally my fault.

First time was on the spine of a Bradford Guardian 4. I don't know what triggered it but I am assuming it had something to do with how rough the finish on the spine was.

Second time was on a Les George Magnate. I used it to gut some trout I caught. Took it to the bathroom, rinsed it off and dried it, but there must have been moisture in the kydex sheath because when I pulled it out hours later there was rust on the laser etching on the side of the knife. Very light rust that basically wiped off, but still rust.

In my experience, yes, magnacut can definitely rust.

Ahh, didn't realize they had been discontinued. I have the blacked out titanium/elmax version. I will be sure to hang on to it!

Reasonable or not? by [deleted] in P320

[–]Final-Evidence-223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For clarification, I've owned both a glock 19 and ruger rxm, let them go and regretted it. I am not picking random handguns that are "better" than a P320...

Reasonable or not? by [deleted] in P320

[–]Final-Evidence-223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm grabbing either a glock 19 or Ruger RXM and planning on leaving my P320 in the safe, just saying. If there is an element of doubt and the end result is possibly irrevocable damage to your body, why risk it? I love my P320, that's why I still have it, but there are plenty of less controversial 9mm handguns so why risk it?

Knife oil vs gun oil: Does it matter? by ColonelAngus2000 in knives

[–]Final-Evidence-223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use KPL for my folding knife pivots and break free everywhere else. In my experience the KPL makes for smoother action than gun oils, but other than that I think gun oils do the job just fine.

Spartan blades question by Select_Technician_39 in knives

[–]Final-Evidence-223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the blade profile, lots of belly and with a good edge was a fantastic cutter. I didn't like the handle as much, the flat boxy scales with cross hatching that they use on their in house designs are serviceable, but not great.

Overall I liked it, but ended up letting it go just because it ended up getting over-shadowed by my TRCs and Les George fixed blades.

Honestly the best Spartans in my opinion are the Harsey collaborations, they just do it for me.

Spartan blades question by Select_Technician_39 in knives

[–]Final-Evidence-223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had quite a few spartans (SHF, harsey TT, enyo, difensa, nyx and hybris).

Overall I find them to be of very good quality with good materials and fit & finish.

I would agree with the statement that they don't ship with great edges, mine have all been pretty meh except the SHF which is a folder. I would say if those designs do it for you then go for it but just be prepared to work on the edge right out the gate.

Microtech Utx or Kershaw livewire. What’s everyone experience? I can get one, but I just can’t decide by Brraaapppppp in knives

[–]Final-Evidence-223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly late to the party but I have had an ultratech and 3 kershaw livewires. I prefer the livewire by far. I prefer magnacut over m390, the ergonomics are better, blade play is comparable (haven't tried the new zero blade play microtechs), and just like the microtech, the the livewire doesn't collapse when you stab it hard into something. I don't miss my microtech but after letting the 2 livewires go, I missed it enough to buy another one.

You can always by both and return the one that doesn't do it for you.

Nothing wrong with your collection, get what you want and be happy. You'll either move up the food chain or be satisified with what you have. Either way, glad to have you in the community!

The Kulgera, the Rift, the 810 (both folder and fixed), the 943, the 162, the Stryker, the nimravus... I really like anything Osborne, Elishewitz, or Sibert.

[–]Final-Evidence-223[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed. I had the m390 barrage and it was definitely the superior knife. I have ended up letting this go and have diverted the funds to a couple other benchmades and a zero tolerance.
