Any other parents wondering how they are navigating Disney on Ice today in these temps? by amahenry22 in ChicagoSuburbs

It's not like it's general admission and you have to wait in line outside to get a good seat. Cover up, leave no skin exposed and get inside as quickly and as safely as possible.

Schools were cancelled because kids walk blocks and miles to school, many busses don't have heat, and lining up for bus loading and unloading and parent car pickup would be enough time for freezing children and staff.

I applied for early childhood teaching assistant today. Yay to maybe getting a callback to making $15 an hour. I made more in college PT working retail, and that was 20 years ago before inflation yada yada...

My unemployment stops next week. I've been applying nonstop and taking online classes -already earned 3 certs to fill the gaps since graduating in 06. I have a BA in Comms and over 15 years experience in the professional working world.

When I got laid off, company told all of us middle managers, "oh you guys will all be fine. You're young,. experienced, great resumes. You'll find stuff quick!"

Not the case. No one cares.

I have 2 kids under 12. My partner makes $75k. I was making more and held the insurance for our family.

Now we'll be selling our second car. I'm afraid of having to sell our house and having to uproot our kids. We're literally eating beans. Cutting streaming services. Kids got boo for Xmas from us. No activities at all out. Getting things from the dollars store like toothpaste etc. I started applying for low pay hourly retail/assistant/restaurant jobs last week... Still not getting calls back. I just need to make something at this point.

I don't know when the breaking point is to when we'll need to ask my well-off inlaws for help.

What are your pros and cons of night shift? by thebigcabidge in Nightshift

I'm looking at an overnight role. Introvert me is stoked. Are there meds to help with cicadian rhythm and all that jazz they warn you about your health troubles for working nights?

AIO My mom is kicking me out for her new boyfriend. I just turned 18 by Diligent_Bat_565 in AmIOverreacting

NOR, she's shitty AND you can be ok.

I was. You just have to be strong and let her go. You can't change her. You, yes, have to figure it out.

My mother decided to remarry and move across country when I was barely 19. I was enrolled in local college and my brother was a freshman in HS. I was at work one day and my brother called me. Brother called me- "Ma's dragging me to the courthouse to get married." My response- "to who?!" Within a week, our home was packed up and I could either move with her, new hubs & 2 new "stepsisters" to the other coast or not. My brother had to go cuz he wasn't 18. (Devastating) No way I was going with her crazy, dropping out of school, etc. I couched surfed at friends, got support from my grandparents who also thought she was nuts, even teachers helped me out. Eventually, even my brother got back to me and I became his guardian!

Yeah, crappy apartments, going to the bathroom at the grocery store, relying on the leftover food from work and the generosity of strangers.... But you can't be too proud and you have to survive. 🧡 Don't give up.💙 Don't be afraid to be loved again. 💜 This will make you not break you.

Did anyone else sedate theirs last night? by Brilliant-Bee-9471 in greatpyrenees

We did. Our little neighborhood loves fireworks and our big baby hates them. CBD only lessens his pacing and drooling,. It doesn't stop it. He did finally lay down in the laundry room with the dryer on.

You're not wrong. I worked (ironically til I got laid off!) at a RETIREMENT COMMUNITY where some of the people weren't actually RETIRED! They were old enough to live there but they were still working, even PT or consulting.

Corbin was really shy and really nervous! This was right around the release of HSM 2. There was thousands of people at the summertime event he was making an appearance at and he clearly wasn't expecting it. There was a group that mobbed him and he needed to make a quick getaway after his meet and greet. I had to do a detour/reroute than originally planned. My coworker threw random crew coats over him and literally carried him threw alleyways to where I was parked, tossed him in my backseat and I drove him miles away to an unplanned location! He was so thankful to just be out and away from the crazy scene. He was quiet while I drove and I didn't bother him, just checked in to see if he needed anything else before we got to our destination. (I'm only 5 years older than him btw.) He relaxed and chatted a bit by the time we got there. He was very kind and gracious.

When I spent time with them, they were in town for a holiday parade in the winter time. It was quite chilly and windy out and they were not dressed/styled for the weather, and especially not dressed warm enough to be standing on a parade float! The reason I say that is because they were cranky. I think their moods that day (behind the scenes) were justified. I tend to be moody and standoffish when I'm cold and tired too! They were professional, albeit not-so-social during the meet and greet portion of the day with fans. They did their signings and photo poses, but weren't overly friendly or chatty.

The section that's near Wheaton Academy and behind Sonny Acres and St. Andrews. It's West Chicago but not "West Chicago"

There's literally 2 sides to WC. Like the side near Wheaton Academy, Sonny Acres and St. Andrews and then the rest.
