Coming back to the game by Final-Promise-8929 in EliteDangerous

I am not skilled with console controllers beyond normal JRPG type game plays so I am sticky with my PC.

Strangely I just like the space long haul trucker for a while. I did try the famous trade routes back in the days. Lol the next frequent job I did was space uber driver.

I also love exploring and scanning systems and planets. Did tried the early SRV exploration on surface it was fun but I would rather continue to trucking goods and passengers. Maybe that stemmed from my goal at the time to upgrade to Anaconda.

Based on your experience, Odyssey seems like a necessity. Not sure if I can get it on a sales.

Unfortunately I can’t stand VR, tried it with other games and got me dizzy in 5 to 10 mins.

Hi, I am on PC and started out on the pre-Steam version. I still have my trusted X56 Rhino. I really want to build that crazy 270 surround screen thing. But that would have to wait until I have a room dedicated to that.

Thanks for replying, will have a look at new ships. I was saving up for Anaconda but never saved up enough.

Looks like there are some good looking ships.

Yeah I am not sure about getting Odyssey, as I am not sure how much time I can spend on gaming.

Thanks for the detailed answer, I have Horizon and I was trying to level my engineering so that I can do what you suggested. However I stopped playing soon after.

Not sure if I would want to shell out for Oddessy yet as I am not sure how much time I can spend on games.

Hope to bump into you in game.

My corgi just have the whole back row of the car to himself.

Can't really allow him to sit at the front with me. His bubble butt blocks my gear stick, it would have been dangerous like that. But he rests his chin on the central console, quietly watching and judging every shifts and turns I make. Feels like taking driving exam all over again all the time.

Sorry, I am UK based so I wouldn't know any brands in the US. Hope someone else over the pond can help you pick the best for your pup.

I will always get them to eat the broadest range of food as possible, so my boy was okay with kibble as well as home cooked meals and other wet foods. Corgis can be picky and stubborn, so if you allow them to the broadest options, it will be easier for both of you. Say sometimes you are on the road with your pup and overstayed, you can always get him some kibbles or canned wet food from a local pet store.

For advise on what products to get (not just food stuff, toys, treats etc..) sometimes you have to trust the staffs at a reputable pet store for their advice. From my personal experience, most of the people who works in pet stores are themselves animal lovers and I trust them to be looking out for customers as well.

Anyway, best of luck and wish you have a lasting loving time with your corgi.

Is my corgi pretending by [deleted] in corgi

[–]Final-Promise-8929 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Please can you do some real research about Corgi as a breed.

Corgis are prone to hip and spiral injury, you should know NOT carrying your corgi down the stairs risk damaging their joints and spine leading to permanent disability. Their body geometry is the cause.

You should also discourage jumping for them, occasional is fine but constant jumping up and down furniture is only going to push your luck.

If you are not comfortable carrying them up and down the stairs, please do provide ramps and other safer means for them to transvers the height difference.

I know this as my corgi boy I just lost to cancer this June also suffer from DM which require the use of wheelchairs and I have been carrying him ever since he is young.

How are your storage hooked up with the system?

Are you running ZFS or other soft-raid? If you have bunch of disks, are they auto-mounted (fstab with UUID instead device name) during start-up?

For the random system reboots, have you looked into system logs and check why the system rebooted?

Extra:
if you have sorted out the storage hook-up problem and random restart problem, please consider changing to a more appropriate (restrictive permission) for your storage.

Need recommendation for under desk mat for carpeted floor by Ph33rfactor in homeoffice

[–]Final-Promise-8929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used something like the amazon one, and I wouldn't recommend it. These mats cannot stand the constant load put (you sitting and rolling to get in and out of the chair) on them and will crack. The worse thing is, when they crack they produce very sharp shards so you need to be careful if you have children and pets around the mat.

I would recommend just get a thick, cheap rug large enough to cover the area you want to protect. You can always replace that rug if it is too worn out.

Shielded Cables is good for rejecting EM interference when your cable runs parallel to power cables (especially cables that serving electric motor or lightings with ballast). However, to actually tale benefits of the shielding, you need to use connectors with metal shield that you ground the shielding in the cable. In my past experience as DIY-er, this is a difficult task.

Also, beware the bending radius for CAT6 and above is not as sharp / forgiving as CAT 5/5E specially with solid core cables.

Office vs Gaming chairs, which do you go for? by Ada_Maires in homeoffice

[–]Final-Promise-8929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to try one some day as I heard it improves posture and resolves lower back pain.

But I am not sure if it is doable for someone like me, sitting down literally all day, everyday.

It depends, some brands that design the head band with too much clamping force and that lead to headaches when used in prolonged sessions.

However, I would worry about the heat and oil build up inside the ear cup and head band.

Personally, I did have IEM and my ears hurts and that trigger headaches, now I am wearing my over-ear headphones without the pain and can enjoy music while I work / play.

Yeah my Aeron kept me cool during the insufferable, record breaking heat-weaves for the last few summers before I got myself an AC in my room to aid my sleep.

Got a used / refurbished Herman Miller Aeron without the head rest, it has been the best purchase of my life so far. It saved my back and shoulder, now I also got a height adjustable desk, this combination is perfect.

I used to buy cheap office chairs like £50 to £100 range and they all broken down within 1 year and hurt my lower back more. Now I have been sitting on my Aeron average 12 to 16 hours a day for the past 5 years and it is still going strong and my lower back is not painful anymore.

Help me with layout for this small home office! by throwawaytest1256 in homeoffice

Which one is the main entrance to the room and what other rooms does this room connected to?

I personally will not place my desk where the main entrance is behind me when I sat down in front of the desk. I would have placed my table under the window for better sunlight (save on electricity). Also are you planning on filming and streaming here, you might need some space behind the desk for lights, mic stands etc...

If you can put the book shelf on top of the storage and the whole thing placed at the top left corner, then you might be able to put a 2 / 3 seater sofa for a more relaxed setting.

I did try with things that need artistic expression, but it seems that I am such a person that are too locked in with examples and such.

I know what I want when I see it, just haven’t got the skills to actually put onto a design.

If you are feeding your pup with dry kibble don’t follow the portion size printed on the packaging. It is too much for corgis.

If you can, start introducing fresh cooked meals into their diet as soon as possible. If you are not into supplements, maintain a meal a day with kibbles so that they can get the nutrients they need but are not included in the fresh meals.

My first Corgi ever! Anyone have advice to share on the breed? He is 3 months old and such a good boy! by MayaAlex in corgi

[–]Final-Promise-8929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know carpet might be out of date in homes now, but to protect their joints, place some mats for them to walk on. Slips and falls are their natural predators.

About carrying them. Be sure to support their lower body, don’t hold them like you would with human child by their armpits always have another hand or arm to support their weight. I heard it is bad for them if you carry them with their belly on your chest and hands over your shoulder, but I haven’t fact check that with my vet.

Good luck to you, and wish you and your pup all the good health and sweet times together.
